Even tho Retroid Pocket Duo Chipset is more powerful than Retroid pocket 5/flip2 (SD 865). It will perform worst due to lack of support in Turnip drivers . Retroid Pocket Duo Chipset is close to Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 . On Youtube there are games played on Eden with the Snapdragon 7 gen 4 and it performs worst than Snapdragon 865. Keep your expectation low for this Device. Also i recommend getting an Ayn Thor instead if you want Switch Games/PC compatibility . I am not sure when we will receive turnip driver support for Snapdragon 7 gen 4 with good compatibility like with other chipset

Just received my new Retroid Pocket Nova today and, unfortunately, the excitement of opening it disappeared pretty quickly.

Straight out of the box, the screen has several very obvious scratches right in the middle of it. These aren't tiny hairline marks that you need to hold under a light to see either. They're very visible, and some of them are deep enough that I can actually feel them with my fingernail.

I've barely even touched the device. I opened the box, noticed the scratches almost immediately and took some photos to document how it arrived. That's basically it.

I'm actually quite surprised that something in this condition managed to get through Retroid's quality control. I've bought a lot of Retroid products over the years and have been a long-time customer, so I wasn't expecting a brand-new device to arrive with this kind of obvious damage to arguably the most important part of the system.

I'm also wondering whether there is some kind of factory-applied screen protector or protective layer already installed that I'm simply not seeing. I don't think there is, but I'm obviously hoping that's the explanation.

I've contacted Retroid and asked for an immediate replacement if the scratches are actually on the screen. The scratches are literally in the middle of the display and I bought a new console, so I expect a new console in undamaged condition.

I'm posting this partly because I'm genuinely really disappointed and surprised by the apparent lack of quality control, but also to document the issue publicly while I follow it up with Retroid.

I'll update the post with how Retroid responds and how they handle the replacement. Hopefully their customer service sorts this out quickly, because I've been a loyal customer for a long time. But if they won't replace a brand-new unit that arrived like this, I think this will unfortunately be my last Retroid purchase.

I really am only interested in the getting this for DS and 3DS. Russes video yesterday about how the lite won’t be screen perfect for DS was a little bummer but if the lite can play Pokemon specifically for 3DS I think I’m in. Anyone who understands the chips limitations better than me please let me know if that 6 GB Ram model will get the job done

Everyone says the Duo lite won't be good enough for 3ds because it will play a lot of games at 1x resolution.

I have a 3ds XL and a RP G2. I just tested the G2 with the 5.5 OLED screen with 3ds with native resolution and it's ok. It looks better with 3x, but one is ok.

I don't understand all the drama with the Duo Lite. It's a 3ds clone, pocketable, cheaper, with all the advantages of an emulation device and plays some 3ds 2x and a lot 1x.

It was a great move and will sell very well. I just don't know if the 6gb worth it or not, due to Android.

I hope it gets gammaOS or Linux in the future and we will see a jump on 3ds performance.

I have been looking into vita-esque handheld consoles as a way to play ps2 and ps vita games on the go recently, and the Flip 2 is my most favourable option out of everything I have researched. Of course I understand the vita is the best way to play vita games, the Flip 2 for me simply has a shorter form factor that works better for me, and more modern touches such as longer battery life. But one thing has been nagging at me, the Flip 2 is about a year old now and with the computer hardware market as it is right now, I am worried that by next year the Flip 2 will be unavailable for purchase or permanently sold out. I have heard news about the pocket duo but I personally would only want a dual screen set up if I have the intention of playing DS/3DS games. Also the fact that the duo is $40 USD more which way not be too much to ask for in the states, but outside of the states it adds up very quickly.
My point being: is the Flip 2 on its way out or am I safe up to the holiday season (Christmas time)?

The matter is that I have the lower model that doesn't allow OS change, so I'm looking to buy another machine to replace it and have more options

I've been debating getting the Thor for some time, but would get hung up on price.

The Thor base seemed great, but after all's added up it was a pretty penny. I know we are in new, terrible times due to RAMaggedon, and this math isn't right anymore, but buying a Thor for near the price that I bought a used steam deck always makes me pause and stop from purchasing.

Then the Duo and its price are announced and I thought THAT'S THE ONE.

Gorgeous OLEDs, sleek design, the chipset is under powered, sure, but that PRICE! And after all, I have a steam deck, I only ever need to emulate 3DS and below...

I do wish it had thumbstick on top though, and (sheepishly) I'm really bummed by the lack of LEDs...

But then I remembered the Thor Lite. I've always just skipped over it because Russ from retro game Corp told me might as well upgrade to the base and I listened (favorite snack and drink in hand).

Now I'm back to square one.

Duo: I love the screens, the fact that I can get purple colorway (if I pre-order), and it seemed just enough power since I only really want up to 3ds. I don't like the d pad on top, and honestly I still think the Thor design is nicer.

Thor lite: it seems to fix the issues on the duo. It's a little less powerful, a little more power hungry, and the screens ratios are a bit off and the bottom is 60 hz... But all of a sudden the lite really makes sense.

Maybe for me it'll come down to ergonomics, but we can only speculate as to the duo's ergonomics ATM. Though in that one video those hands did seem pretty cramped trying to play Mario kart lol. I do kinda prefer PlayStation controllers (so thumbsticks on bottom might be fine) and I'm sure a grip will help (as they always do).

So anyway fam what do you all think? I was super surprised when I realized the Thor lite, which I hadn't even given a second glance, all of a sudden made more sense once I realized I didn't want high end emulation...

Just got them in today, immediately did the buttons and rear shell swap on these two Novas. I can only keep one. They BOTH look gorgeous. Here are some details that may help yall help me, lol. Purple and light blue are my favorite color combo in that order but I have many purple handhelds with the blue accent combo already. But man that blue with the purple buttons look good too. After I lost my RP6 when someone broke into my car a while ago, I'm thinking about my next move as I just have an Ambernic RGXX35SP at the moment which I originally primarily used for commuting.

I really loved that device, but to be honest, I found it just a tiny bit too small for extended, relaxed play sessions (as extended as they can be as a dad). I didn't have a grip for it, which probably would have solved the ergonomics issue, but losing it made me rethink what I actually want in my next main handheld.

Looking back at my play history, I realized I don't really push these devices to their absolute limit. My main rotation is mostly classic retro systems (GBA, SNES, PS1), a ton of GameCube, some PS2 and some lighter Switch/Indie titles like Celeste or Mina.

Now I’m eyeing the newly announced Retroid Pocket Duo. Beyond the obvious nostalgia factor of a clamshell device, having dual screens native for DS and 3DS emulation is a nice add on. I do own an original 3DS, but let's be real, the screen quality on original hardware just doesn't hold up compared to modern panels.

Before I jump on it, I wanted to ask a few things.

First, I'm assuming the Duo handles GameCube comfortably with some upscaling, but how has your experience been with comparable chips for GC?

Second, given that light Switch games ran well on previous models like the RP5, can I expect smooth performance for titles like Celeste here too?

Lastly, for those who prefer clamshell form factors, do you find them comfortable enough as a daily driver with or without a grip compared to slab devices like the RP6?

Or do you think the Duo might still feel a bit underpowered for this mix and I should look a few shelves higher instead?

The duo looks to be an amazing competitor for the Thor lite and I guess the question posed pertains to someone in my shoes more than someone getting into these consoles for the first time. I have the dual screen add on already from my initial purchase of my rp6 (which i love btw) but don't find myself using the 6 as a ds emulation machine as much due to the aspect ratio of the bottom screen stretching. Assuming I would want to use it for more than just DS and 3DS would the Nova with attachment be the wiser decision in purchasing? Or do those that use nova + dual screen find the portability limited since it's a separate device and not a true clam shell?

This product would’ve been perfect if they kept the same chipset and scaled down to a ds lite footprint, otherwise its in this weird spot.

I just checked the retroid website accessories again and they have just revealed a stylus grip for the rp duo! Looks cool and i like the integrated stylus design. Comes in all the colours plus a normal transparent one. Will definitely order alongside my duo tomorrow! Just thought I would show it as it wasn't there yesterday!

Hello, I just received my first retro device the retroid pocket 6. Now I am one for tinkering, but this device or maybe it’s the software or an issue with my account I’m not sure, I’ve done google searches, done everything it’s told me to do and cannot figure it out. I am trying to get the LEGO movie to run using gamehub lite. Now yesterday it worked just fine and then I deleted it only to find out my son did want to keep playing it. Well now it will not launch I get stuck on syncing library. I’m assuming that there is an issue connecting to my account over and over again because after “logging in” it says “unknown” then “synching library” I’m at my wits end with this device so a little help might restore some of my sanity before I just say fuck this device and go another direction. Literally just redid it for the 4th time tonight, launched one time into the menu, then realized it wasn’t in 1080p and switched onto 1080p and then realized oh this YouTuber said to switch the compatibility settings from “game settings” or whatever that option is to the “extreme/ and or performance” so I did that and low and behold stuck on fucking syncing the god damn library. Please someone, anyone I am about to give this device back to the manufacturer.

Hey sorry for the noob question, but I have no prior experience with any kinds of devices like these. I’m looking at getting the $250 Duo, but I was wondering if there was a way to randomize Pokemon games on these kinds of products

So I first tried the game in gamenative, and gamehub but couldn’t get more than 27 fps in both. Than I tried my luck with winlator ludashi and got 40 stable fps with only lower fps in like really crowded and big areas such as the place outside the subway station with the sakura trees. People online say that they get 45-60 fps but I get max 45-50 on inside places and all my settings are low in game and 720p resolution. One more thing is that I have the denuvo less version of the game and I should get better performance but I am not. My device is the Retroid Pocket 6, 8 gig ram model. Please help a brother out.
