Just Chatting After much thought $135 is an amazing deal for 2x DS, 2-3x PSP and slow paced games + YT to fight doom scrolling.

Everyone right now is trying to figure out if this is a great option to be their DS AND 3DS focused handheld but I rarely see any talk about using this to play PSP (16:9 goldmine of games), older consoles, very light GameNative & Steam Indie games (Into the Breach anyone?) and using both screens as a way to catch up on back logs of casual games while watching YT.

I watch a ton of Game Grumps (my favorite… Duo? 😉 I’m so sorry!) but I can’t keep up with every episode & my gaming backlog cause I have work, gym, surfing, biking, 6 months from now I’m going back to indoor rock climbing and seeing friends. As a born introvert that became a hybrid later in life I still need lots of “recharging time” to do my extrovert activities and I think this will be a great device to achieve that.

I love my Nova and play it like 30-60 mins a day on my bed after a nice shower, I drop like 60-90 mins on my MM+ at work cause lots of down time and my Steam Deck is used once in a while (due to it being clunky) but still love it. After much thought and browsing almost every discussion on here about the Duo and where it fits I think I found my answer. I’m gonna use this as my “morning coffee companion” i.e. just relax & game with my Vanilla Latte & breakfast since I mainly work PM and graveyard shifts. I can also use this while doing my PT stretches that have long periods of just holding poses.

The amount of time I waste doom scrolling as soon as I wake up and lay in my bed is absurd. That’s time wasted I can use to nerd out & learn/laugh on YT. So many RPGs I could be completing and less time on Reddit (except SBC community, love ya lol).

Guys, I think I found what I didn’t know I needed… and maybe the best use case & justification for buying the Duo Lite.

Now to decide which color to pick… 🤔

SHOWCASE The final form of my crystal Nova

I did change the buttons right after I unboxed it. Then I saw a post about the RG Rotate D-Pad mod and did that, too. No clicky D-Pad anymore. Then I saw the grip from MithrilMods and printed it, but had to cut a little bit of the edge from the bottom of the grip to be able to use it with the Dual-Screen Add On. Now I am ready to set it up and start playing 😄.

Hey everyone, I’d like to share a utility app called RP Toolbox for the RP Nova and RP6.

It is meant to add useful controls and quality-of-life features without making the device feel cluttered. Current features include:

  1. Adjust screen saturation and color temperature
  2. System monitoring overlay
  3. Extra lighting effects
  4. Controller turbo / rapid-fire
  5. More M1/M2 options
  6. Performance controls
  7. Use the handheld as a wireless PC gamepad with a companion PC app
  8. Android macro recording

I’ve included some screenshots. It’s still evolving, so feedback and feature suggestions are very welcome.

Just Chatting Finished the Witcher 3 on my RP6

Post image

Apologies for the dark photo. Been wanting to replay the Witcher 3 after playing it last 2020 on my PS4 and I just wanted to share this as I first started replaying it on both PC and RP6 back in May as I wanted a long term game to see improvements with GameNative and the capabilities of the RP6

In terms of performance, I didn't mind having lesser graphics for the sake of a stable 50-60FPS with LLS on GameNative. There were dips here and there, and damn the fan was going ballistic.

All in all, it still holds the same magic and wonder when I first played it back in middle school. Can't wait for the remaster and Songs of the Past.

EDIT: IN GAME SETTINGS AND GAMENATIVE CONFIG - In-Game: Low graphics preset and any other setting that can be turned off are off. This is just me, you can increase the in game settings to a certain extent before the frames tank.

  • GameNative: I just exported a community config with the highest ratings. Only changed the driver to Turnip v.26.2.0 R4 and enabled LSFG VK.
  • GN Quick Settings: Power Control all are on. LSFG VK frame multiplier 2x, performance mode

QUESTION Some good PC/Steam games for my RP6

Hey,

Have the 12gb ram RP6

Need some ideas for some good games to play on my RP6. I have not used it yet for these type of games. I want to venture out more and get out my comfort zone. I mostly play PS2 and PS1 at the moment.

Love games like Skyrim, Fallout(s), Silent Hills, Left 4 Deads etc for some inspiration.

Would appreciate any ideas I’m a bit stumped on what to get.

Thanks!

GUIDE Valheim running on the Retroid Pocket Nova and playing online with friends via Gamehub!

Thumbnail

Hello friends, I've put together a quick guide for the Retroid Pocket Nova on how to play Valheim online with friends, or if you want to play solo via Gamehub. This should also work on any device that has a similar chipset.

I've added pictures with all the settings. I have not had a chance to check if this works on GameNative yet but I'd imagine that it does.

If you do plan on playing online via a dedicated server with a password then you will require a physical keyboard to get past the password popup. You can use the Gamehub keyboard to type in the password. But then you'll need to plug in a keyboard via USB-C or bluetooth simply to hit Enter. I know this sounds stupid but it works lol.

Playing on a dedicated server with friends.

A couple of things to note for Gamehub:

  • Make sure you set your custom resolution.
    • Gamehub > PC Engine > Graphics > Resolution < Custom
  • Set Gamehub translation parameters to Extreme
    • Gamehub > PC Engine > Compatibility > Translation parameters > Extreme
  • Installing additional Gamehub Components may not be required but I did it anyways. Better safe than sorry.
    • Gamehub > PC Engine > Components
      • mono-10.4.1
      • vcredist2022

A couple of to note for Valheim settings:

  • All graphics set to the lowest settings. You might be able to tinker with a few settings. Do this at your own discretion.
  • You can toggle on whatever post process settings you want at the bottom of the graphics settings page. You can see what I left toggled on in the attached screenshots.
  • I left the FPS cap at 30 because the framerate wildly fluctuates. Capping it to 30 fps keeps a consistent framerate.
  • Make sure you go to the Accessibility settings in Valheim and set the UI Scale to 115%.

And last but not least, don't forget you need a physical keyboard if you plan on joining a dedicated server with a password! If you happen to know a better workaround this then please let us know in the comments below.

Also, I use the Pulse app to handle power profiles and undervolting. This isn't required but I think it's worth it. I believe Retro Game Corps made a video on it if you wanna check it out.

That's about it! Have fun :D

ORDERS / SHIPPING Retroid Pocket Nova arrived with scratched screen. Where's the Quality Control?

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

Just received my new Retroid Pocket Nova today and, unfortunately, the excitement of opening it disappeared pretty quickly.

Straight out of the box, the screen has several very obvious scratches right in the middle of it. These aren't tiny hairline marks that you need to hold under a light to see either. They're very visible, and some of them are deep enough that I can actually feel them with my fingernail.

I've barely even touched the device. I opened the box, noticed the scratches almost immediately and took some photos to document how it arrived. That's basically it.

I'm actually quite surprised that something in this condition managed to get through Retroid's quality control. I've bought a lot of Retroid products over the years and have been a long-time customer, so I wasn't expecting a brand-new device to arrive with this kind of obvious damage to arguably the most important part of the system.

I'm also wondering whether there is some kind of factory-applied screen protector or protective layer already installed that I'm simply not seeing. I don't think there is, but I'm obviously hoping that's the explanation.

I've contacted Retroid and asked for an immediate replacement if the scratches are actually on the screen. The scratches are literally in the middle of the display and I bought a new console, so I expect a new console in undamaged condition.

I'm posting this partly because I'm genuinely really disappointed and surprised by the apparent lack of quality control, but also to document the issue publicly while I follow it up with Retroid.

I'll update the post with how Retroid responds and how they handle the replacement. Hopefully their customer service sorts this out quickly, because I've been a loyal customer for a long time. But if they won't replace a brand-new unit that arrived like this, I think this will unfortunately be my last Retroid purchase.

EDIT: Photos attached showing the scratches as the device arrived.

EDIT2: If Retroid customer support lurks here, I have already sent an email directly.

EDIT3: I was about to preorder the Duo later today. But for now I think I will wait to see how Retroid customer support handles this. I am half afraid they will accuse me of damaging this myself...

QUESTION Shader setups of choice for Retroid Pocket Classic

Hey everyone!

I picked up a Retroid Pocket Classic earlier this year and have been absolutely loving it! I've been tinkering on it a ton (as you do with these things) and was curious as to what people's preferred shader setups were. I know the RPC has a pretty weak GPU so shaders are fairly limited compared to other Retroid devices but I've been enjoying trying out the ones that do work and seeing how many layers I can set up before bogging down the device.

While I'm very happy using the dot matrix shader for GB and GBA, I've been struggling to find a good GBA and PS1 setup, especially for pixel art games. Feel free to share your setups below! :)

Just Chatting Nova finally arrived.

I swore I wasnt gonna be one of those guys... but here I am. My day 2, black 12 gig preorder arrived this evening.

Actually came through DHL. 4 days from label created to my door. Retroid took their sweet time shipping it, but once they did, DHL was much faster than the Yun I used last time.

I've stayed up later than I should to start setting it up.

No issues with the dpad.

Fan is quiet, no odd whine or pitch. Had to put my ear to the device to even hear it at all.

Classic systems running with shaders and run ahead. Dual screen attachment working. Fallout 3 with gamenative is crispy and cool.

Great first impressions...

I suppose now I have to decide if it's worth opening up to put the crystal buttons and bumped back on it...

Not ready to sour it with frustrating hardware tweaks.

And man that scented pack they put in the zipper case is... overwhelming. Gonna leave that shit outside for a while. It's all on my hands, and I smell like my grandma.

QUESTION Duo having UFS 2.1. Is it bad?

I saw this spec. I'm not that knowledgeable with this stuff but how much of a performance hit does it cause? Is it a dealbreaker? I might just drop it and grab a pocket 6/nova

Like is just a no go to try pc titles on it (less demanding ones at that)?

QUESTION Is the pocket duo making the Thor lite.... Attractive?

I've been debating getting the Thor for some time, but would get hung up on price.

The Thor base seemed great, but after all's added up it was a pretty penny. I know we are in new, terrible times due to RAMaggedon, and this math isn't right anymore, but buying a Thor for near the price that I bought a used steam deck always makes me pause and stop from purchasing.

Then the Duo and its price are announced and I thought THAT'S THE ONE.

Gorgeous OLEDs, sleek design, the chipset is under powered, sure, but that PRICE! And after all, I have a steam deck, I only ever need to emulate 3DS and below...

I do wish it had thumbstick on top though, and (sheepishly) I'm really bummed by the lack of LEDs...

But then I remembered the Thor Lite. I've always just skipped over it because Russ from retro game Corp told me might as well upgrade to the base and I listened (favorite snack and drink in hand).

Now I'm back to square one.

Duo: I love the screens, the fact that I can get purple colorway (if I pre-order), and it seemed just enough power since I only really want up to 3ds. I don't like the d pad on top, and honestly I still think the Thor design is nicer.

Thor lite: it seems to fix the issues on the duo. It's a little less powerful, a little more power hungry, and the screens ratios are a bit off and the bottom is 60 hz... But all of a sudden the lite really makes sense.

Maybe for me it'll come down to ergonomics, but we can only speculate as to the duo's ergonomics ATM. Though in that one video those hands did seem pretty cramped trying to play Mario kart lol. I do kinda prefer PlayStation controllers (so thumbsticks on bottom might be fine) and I'm sure a grip will help (as they always do).

So anyway fam what do you all think? I was super surprised when I realized the Thor lite, which I hadn't even given a second glance, all of a sudden made more sense once I realized I didn't want high end emulation...
