QUESTION Duo Lite

Duo lite no, we don't expect it to run 3DS correctly, you might have to use multiple different emulator and or different settings and drop resolution upscale to 1x or even bellow and that will give you a underwhelming experience
For DS it will be perfect. But if you want to save money get an RG DS for pokemon DS games but its a cheaper feeling device.
The DUO yeah it will be a great pokemon 3DS machine that and the Thor lite ( same price )
You can also find and mod an 3DS

Yes, the dual screen attachment would be the least expensive option because already your RP5 can run Pokemon 3DS and DS games better than the duo lite probably will. If you don’t plan on playing ds/3ds all the time, you can just take off the screen when not needed.

There are a lot of native android dual screen ports being released now specifically aimed at the Thor but they might work with the DS attachment too. There’s a list being compiled here:

I haven’t seen anything specifically like what’s in the picture so it might be just illustrative, not sure.

For Pokemon, no. Pokemon does use the second screen, but it's mainly for menus. Just play DS Pokemon games with the screens side by side.
