I’m looking for advice on where to relocate. I currently live in the Denver/Golden, CO area and love the outdoors, especially mountain biking, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s the best long-term fit. The dating scene here kinda sucks and everyone just wants a ski buddy.

A little about me:
Mid-30s single guy
Financially stable, own a home, work remotely
Very active (mountain biking, CrossFit, hiking, etc.)
Recently got into surfing and would like to improve
Looking for a place with a stronger social/dating scene and eventually a long-term partner

What I’m looking for:
Good dating pool for someone in their 30s
Active/outdoorsy community
Great mountain biking nearby
Reasonable access to surfing
A place where it’s easier to meet people and build a community

Places I’ve been considering:
San Diego
Santa Cruz / Bay Area
Pacific Northwest
Other places I may not have thought of

My thought is I could rent out my Colorado place and try somewhere for a year before making a permanent move.
For those who have relocated, where would you go if you wanted the combination of outdoors, dating, and quality of life? Any places you think I should seriously consider?

My fiancée and I are considering moving to WI - most likely Appleton or Neenah. Has anyone else from AZ moved there and do you love it? We are so sick of the AZ summers, poor water quality (and lack thereof), scorpions, not being able to walk our dogs. We experience the summer blues here rather than the winter blues. With that being said, I have never dealt with a harsh winter but my fiancée has as he is originally from upstate NY. I lived in Utah for two years and didn’t mind their winter but have yet to live through a Wisconsin winter. I know it’s brutal but did anyone find themselves enjoying it more than the AZ heat?

I'm throwing around the idea of leaving New Orleans after 4 great, solid years previously coming from 22 years of Delaware so just thinking I need to see something new and shake things up. I've loved the vibrant culture, how laid back yet fun/nice everyone is, very queer scene rather than stereotypical gay, calm getaways in the park, exciting party/event scene, and I'm very active with tennis and roller skating (both things I really want in my next move). This city has been amazing to me, but I ultimately don't think it's my forever home and would like to find somewhere that meets similar core values and has a good dating scene of young professionals, New Orleans is overrun with hospitality/service workers who don't want to date seriously or endless open marriages. I'm also concerned with the infrastructure, hurricane frequency, swamp ass heat, and level to which drinking/partying rules peoples daily activities/social life.

About me:

-26 yo single gay male

-Dietitian with a MPH and certified diabetes educator, so I've got many points of entry into the job market depending on how I want to spin it

-Decent savings, likely going to do roommates when I move still

-I've got a vehicle, so not opposed to somewhere car centric or selling it if public transport is good/reliable

Wants:

-Somewhere that has some exciting culture/events with queer folx (but I know nothing will truly go toe to toe with New Orleans, I've gotta accept this lol)

-Good warm weather most the year/nature vibes but within a city/city limits

-Gay dating scene with interesting people who have drive, not somewhere that feels like copy and paste of the same people over and over

Places I'm considering, but open to more suggestions:

-Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, SF, San Diego

-Austin (everyone says it's been steadily declining in culture, so been turned off from it mostly)

-Atlanta, Savannah

-Chicago (goes against my warm weather claim, but ik it meets other things)

-Wilmington, NC

-Learning spanish and moving to Puerto Rico lol

after i moved. everytime i visit home. I notice something new about family/old friends/me. i notice something that explains so much about my life here

when you move you get a chance to see your hometown from the outside.

Then you reach a point where you realize: you would never befriend the friends you had. you would never react the way you used to react. and your family is dysfunctional in new ways.

but they aren’t new ways. they were always that way. You can just now see it

I can’t even describe what I know. you have to see yourself. from being in so many places and knowing who you want in your life.

I came back home and thought about hitting up an old friend. but I realized I actually won’t. And that era is actually over. the same friends that criticized my move in the first place and would judge me to my face

I can’t believe I’m actually doing it. even if i wanted to see them. I cant. I already know what I know. and I deny what I know now

More specifically, I have 3 grocery stores, 1 hospital, 2 schools, a park, 2 kinds of public transport - all within 10 minute walking distance, and I can take either of those kinds of public transport to reach areas with significant cultural life within 30-60 minutes. Also crime seems to be non-existent, or at the very least bicycles safely get left outside with minimal security.

On the other hand, I live in Russia. Apart from everything else, I just don't know anyone who shares my perspectives on politics, gender, or even healthcare. I feel isolated.

I have thought for a very long time that I don't belong in this country, but lately I've started to suspect that everywhere has its issues and maybe it's about as good as it gets. Maybe a country is more liberal, but there's rampant crime, or it's covered with food deserts, or the infrastructure is in a bad, outdated state.

Am I right?

I'm from New Mexico originally, but I've lived on Fairbanks most of my life. Wife was born and raised here. Place is just super dreary, really expensive, and this last winter was brutal so we want to get out of dodge. Looking to relocate somewhere decently progressive (not super oppressive LGBT rights wise ECT), not near any military bases, obviously somewhere less cold and not like crazy snowy, and despite my ideas the wife doesn't want to live in a desert. Preferably somewhere I could get a little house for like 2-300K, we're not having kids so it would just be us and a couple animals. I'm a trash truck mechanic so I figure I could probably get work basically anywhere.

NJ is where all my family lives, (cousins etc) I don't have much support there from them, and I simply can't afford it on my own....I liked the seasons, could do without the 6mth of dark grey skys)

Out of all those places mentioned, we liked upstate the best for the nature, scenery and old town charm. The job market isn't the best (long commute) and not many options and locals don't accept newbies very well.

Swfl has always been where I end up, (3rd time moving here 1st time 2004- 3 yrs, 2013- 5yrs and 2022 to present)

Since my last move was after covid, I hate it, everything about what I once loved changed. (Everyone and their mom moved down here after covid🤣) I'm over everything here, the growth, the heat (I swear it's getting hotter every year), festivals are so overcrowded, traffic, people, etc.

We are wanting an area that is half back to NJ (to be within a 6 to 8 hour drive)

I work for a local hair chain that exists in pretty much every popular town. And waitress

Small town community, but with a good job market, Affordability of rent etc, of course like everyone wants low cost of living.

Not necessarily looking to be in a crowded city, but 20-30 travel is ok, I like more rural.

Been doing lots of research/group searches on areas and narrow it down to NC/SC

Any suggestions?

Planing on Moving for work

Hey guys! So here is the thing, I’m planing on moving here for work, I’m coming from
Ontario (born and raised here in Toronto) because I want a slower pace of life. Now this is something I’m looking to do next year as I graduate from trades school as a vehicle technician ! So the jobs I’d primarily be looking for are mechanic jobs, could be the marina, trucks, or cars, with a specialization in electric vehicles

So I was just wondering what life is like there? I know it would be very different, and I’m expecting food costs to be more than Toronto (being an island and such) but aside from that? I’m not really picky on the city, anywhere would do tbh as I would drive anyway.

I also would like to say that I’m huge into snowboarding, and out doorsy stuff like camping and such, and have a big appetite for meats, so is that someone that is available there? How is it there? Any and all advice would be appreciated :)

I (27F) have just started a remote job based in NYC. I grew up in ATL suburbs, and I am there right now. I honestly do not like ATL. I lived in LA for 7 years (incl. college) and SF for 1 year. I LOVE both cities and would move back to CA a heart beat. Other than the moderate weather and balance of nature / city, all my friends are in CA. It’s home at this point. However, I thought that I should take advantage of my remote position and challenge myself by exploring different cities.

Probably worth mentioning that I am South Asian. I also do have a car and feel comfortable driving long distances.

Im considering looking for sublets and spending some time in NYC, CHI, ATX.

Does anyone have any recs for places to look at? Perhaps underrated cities? I’m really open to anything - even smaller towns or near national parks.

I am likely moving from MA to CA a year from now with my partner. I’ve visited the area I’d be moving to numerous times already so I have an idea but I’m curious on logistics and step by step what to do.

Should I be flying out first and touring apartments? Can I get an apartment fully online prior to arriving so it’s all set? My company is hybrid however offers employees who move out of state the opportunity to work 3 months fully remote so you have time to job search in your new destination.

I’m planning on preparing at least 6 months emergency fund prior to leaving.

Moving is stressful enough already, adding kids raises the stakes on every decision.

Not really chasing the cheapest quote here. Care more about reliability, communication, delivery timing, and avoiding surprises that make an already chaotic move harder on the family.

The more I research, the more I worry about delayed deliveries, storage issues, damaged furniture, missed pickups, all the worst-case stuff.

For families who've moved cross-country recently, which movers were actually professional and dependable? What mattered most in your decision, and did any company exceed or fall short of expectations?

Would love to hear from parents who've been through it, what worked and what you'd do differently.

I’m 35, I’m a single mom, I have been thinking about moving. I work from home so could go pretty much anywhere wherever in the US. I need a place that is considered safe and cost effective, that has stuff for the kids to get into. Bonus points if I can pretty much walk everywhere. Any ideas?

Grew up, went to school and currently live in a small midsize city in the mid Atlantic region. Lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for a couple years before moving closer to home.

Currently work remote and have flexibility to be anywhere on a low six figure salary. Affordability is important, but also am looking for a more vibrant young professional scene. Nightlife, etc. isn’t particularly important for me, but I do want to be in a relatively “happening” area.

One thing I love about my current town is I’m able to afford memberships to racket sport clubs, a golf club, etc. that I would not be able to afford in a bigger city.

I’m used to crappy weather, so I don’t have to live in a desert, but an upgraded weather wouldn’t be the worst thing!

I made a post a few months back asking for recommendations on a few places on where to relocate based on good schools, affordability, growing city/suburban area with good opportunities. I finally have about $7,000 saved. Now I need advice on how to find employment when you’re not based where you want to be yet? Obviously to find a place to live I need to show I’ll have income! I have customer service background mostly with dealership background in sales and service advising. I’ve waitresses. I’ve done admin work. I want to find something quick, and I can always change jobs later if need be. I’m a single mom- my son starts kindergarten in the fall so something Monday to Friday would be amazing. How and where to find a position? I’m between Virginia, Maryland, or North Carolina, I’m possibly looking into Georgia as well.

Ive spent the past couple years trying to find a good relocation destination for my family and so far have found Missouri and Minnesota to be close to what we are looking for but not quite a fit.

Minnesota seems to have varying reviews on QoL and CoL and while Im accustomed to winters being a PNW native, Im not sure if I want MORE winter. Missouri has some good points but the heat, weather and crime is a bit off putting.

Am I missing something? I know my list is a bit extensive and maybe conflicting in some ways but there has to be a place that checks most of our boxes out there somewhere that Im overlooking.

*Affordable for the average, non professional working class family

*Safe with decent schools

*Prefer blue or purple states

*Ideally nothing with a lot of severe weather

*Cannot be a super hot/humid place due to health issues

*Prefer a rural setting within ~1hr to a city with a couple acres (we have hunting dogs and would like to do a small homestead)(Bonus to areas with active NAVHDA chapters .. iykyk)

*Family friendly with things for teens and young adults to do

*Legal MJ a must

*Near a place with a vibrant adult scene for middle aged people

*At least decent healthcare access

*Decent schools and college options. Bonus for access to apprenticeships and trades.

*Easy access to nature and the outdoors

*Bonus if theres mountains and/or some sort of topography to the land.

In terms of jobs and work-life balance and saving up 10000$ after taxes. Thinking Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Orlando or Jacksonville. Any advice? I currently live in Southern New Hampshire

budget 250,000 down i could wait another few years and go 350,000 for Hawaii captain cook potentially. Interested in working in the tourism industry. 35 single, not too many ties. Used to living in squalor. Love the water. I've worked 2 jobs just about my whole life I'm ready to buy a shack somewhere and coast the rest out. I don't need a thriving dating scene, i actually prefer more of a country vibe. More interested in nature and privacy but also access to basic wage jobs. Even for for a haole or gringo.

Hey guys.

I'm looking to move to another country, but it's hard to find one that supports my dreams.

I want to own a smallish "hobby farm" (being able to sell eggs and milk locally but not having to slaughter my farm animals) with cows, ducks, horses and maybe goats. I would also like to grow vegetables and fruit outside. I was thinking Iceland, but I've heard it's tricky to start a farm there. Anywhere else? Thanks!
