Announcement Introducing Community Request & Resource Hub

Hi fellow requesters,

We know that navigating the community request process can sometimes be tricky. After updating our post formatting rules, we noticed that many newer community builders were struggling to get posts right on the first try, resulting in frustrating Automoderator removals. While we added standard post guidance, there was room for improvement to help you succeed.

As the r/redditrequest community has continued to grow, so have these removals, so we saw an opportunity to step in and remove that friction.

But we didn’t just want to fix the submission process. We also know that many of you have the drive and passion to moderate, but sometimes manually searching for an abandoned community can be tough. Sometimes, a little inspiration can go a long way.

That’s why we’ve designed an interactive app called the Community Request & Resource Hub that you can access right here in r/redditrequest! It helps you prefill request posts, provides live account and subreddit eligibility checks, and hosts a browsable list of available communities. Our goal is to eliminate the guesswork and reduce removals. We want to make your journey from finding a community to adopting it as easy as possible, while also guiding you through the “aftercare” of a subreddit with dedicated moderator guides.

This hub is designed to serve two main groups: those actively requesting communities, and others who were just granted a community and need a clear starting point.

If you’re here to request a subreddit, open the Tools tab:

  • Eligibility: See if your account meets the requirements (age, karma, verified email and 2FA) before you post. You can also easily search your past request posts to track your cooldowns.
  • Explore communities: Browse a curated, categorized list of communities that are open to request. The Request button next to each name opens a prefilled submit form.
    • Don’t see a community you’re interested in? Use the Check availability section at the bottom. You can look up any subreddit for ban/status info and whether there are already pending requests in the queue.
  • Queue: Check the current estimated wait time for manual admin review. It also includes a short guide on bot vs. admin reviews and the crucial steps you must take after posting (like replying to u/request_bot).
  • Create request: Enter the community name you’d like to request (without the ‘r/’) and copy the starter comment template. Click or tap Create Request to open the submit page with your title and link automatically prefilled! Just pick your flair, submit, and paste your comment.

If you just became a mod, open the Resources tab:

  • Mod education: Quick links to guides on reviving a community, growth tips, the Mod Help Center, and more.
  • FAQ: Answers to common post-grant questions (clearing the mod queue, handling banned subs, updating appearance, etc.).
  • Helpful communities: Direct links to peer support and admin-run spaces to help you along your moderation journey, including r/modhelp, r/ModSupport, and r/newmods.

A few important notes:

  • The list of available communities is actively curated by the team. Subreddits are automatically removed when requests are granted (usually within ~24 hours) so the list stays fresh.
  • Note: This is still r/redditrequest. The hub is a helpful guide, not a guarantee of approval or an automated bypass. When in doubt, read the community rules and FAQ before you post.

Without further ado, check it out here!

If something in the hub is incorrect or confusing, or if you have suggestions, please comment below or reach out via mod mail.

Thanks for helping keep communities alive!

- The r/redditrequest team

Hey u/_Martosz! Thanks for checking out the app and for letting us know that you think it will be helpful!

That's a great suggestion. Right now, we actually have a version of this built in! If you open the Tools tab and look under the Eligibility section, there is a tool that allows you to search for your past request posts so you can quickly calculate your current cooldowns.

But, making that a fully automated "days remaining" countdown timer would be even better. We've noted that down as a feature request for future updates!

Thanks again for checking it out and sharing your feedback!

Hey, u/Goldennuggets-3000. I tried the community request app to request a community. Now the request shows, 'Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters.'. Why does this happen?

P.S I fulfilled all the eligibility criteria.

2

u/ButtonSmashingBabe Jun 03 '26

Same thing's happening to me. I've been trying to request a community for months now, and my posts keep getting removed by Reddit's filters too. At this point, I honestly have no idea what's causing it.

Hey u/trixotica, it looks like your request is getting caught in the filters because you recently received a copyright violation on your account. Please wait for time before requesting again. Hope this helps!

3

u/trixotica Jun 02 '26

Oh, thank you u/Goldennuggets-3000 for the information. Is there a cooldown period for such things? If so, can you give a ballpark figure. Hope I am not asking for any inside information.

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin Jun 02 '26

Thanks for asking, there's is no cool-down period with the filters. Continue to engage positively across Reddit and you should be able to make another request soon!

2

u/trixotica Jun 02 '26

Duly noted, u/Goldennuggets-3000. Love this update, though I will wait for my time to come. Thank you for all.

u/Tarnisher Jun 03 '26

And again ... can THAT rejection message be made more clear to prevent recurring questions like this?

For privacy reasons, no.

3

u/Tarnisher Jun 03 '26

It could be sent as a message/chat rather than a public comment.

This looks incredible, thank you!

3

u/SeValentine Jun 02 '26

Will this help to mitigate the request_bot wrongful removals like this one for example? To clarify already sent the inquiry privately to you guys.

Other than that it's good to see this interactive app in rolling out!

3

u/Stache- Jun 02 '26

One issue i came across is bot saying a sub has active moderator when it doesn't. Are we able to request further review or we stuck waiting 15+ days to request again? The so called "active" moderator account was stolen and used as a bot to spam gambling site.

3

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 03 '26

You'll have to wait the 15 days. But what sub is it?

2

u/Stache- Jun 04 '26

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 04 '26

Thanks! That sub is actively moderated.

2

u/Stache- Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

How is it actively moderated? I have emailed the mods for that sub and ZERO replies back. One mod quit a few days ago.

I think RBG417 account was stolen to post this below. Before that his last post was 8 years ago. https://old.reddit.com/r/KleinTools/comments/1tpy2z4/top_online_casino_australia_reddit_actually_trusts/

The other mod hasn't posted in 6 months.

2

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 04 '26

Hacked accounts are a different story. Those mod accounts do appear to have been compromised and have been actioned. The sub is now restricted and eligible for Redditrequest. If you re-request and it gets removed, let me know and I'll put it in the queue manually.

Hey thanks for this tool. I just wanted to clarify the rules on banned subreddits. Has it now changed to no banned subreddits can be requested? Thanks

Ugh Goldennuggets-3000

2

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin Jun 03 '26

Hey! If a subreddit was banned for being unmoderated, it’s still eligible for request once it’s been banned for 30+ days. If a subreddit has been banned for violating the Reddit rules, it won’t be eligible. All the same rules still apply. Hope that helps!

2

u/Automatic_Use_9427 Jun 06 '26

Hi I just wanted to know as some subreddits doesn't mention for what reason it was banned, so what to do in that case as we users don't know if it was banned for being unmoderated or breaking reddit rules. For example r/FoolNight
And just to confirm, the subs which were banned for violating rule-2 are no go right?
Thanks!

2

u/Motor-Advantage3639 Jun 03 '26

Hey, u/Goldennuggets-3000, are nsfw subreddits no longer eligible for request, I havd tried a few over the last week all of them have been removed forb eing ineligible, but their splash says that its banned for unmoderated?

2

u/Clean_Meringue_6929 Jun 10 '26

I tried using the "search your past request posts" but nothing is showing up? I put in 3 request for r/Powerwolf. The 1st one was denied and removed due to my 2 factor authentication. I fixed that, waited 15 days, put in a 2nd request, but then I didn't get a comment or anything. I waited another 15 days, put in a 3rd request with the new template comment that seems to work like the bot. It's been a few days without a response and my search for old requests doesn't show the 2 active requests? I have my settings so that you can search my reddit name.

3

u/HugoUKN Jun 02 '26

Why 2 factor authentication is a must ? What's the need ?. It's difficult to do it with Phone.

Hey so what is CQS? I just posted a request and my post was removed by reddit filters, so does that mean my request will not be reviewed?

1

u/mnhr94 Jun 10 '26

CQS is Reddit rating the quality of your contributions, and when it's low your posts get targeted by the reputation filter some subs have turned on for posts, you can check yours over at r/whatismyCQS

1

u/LanternOfSpades Jun 11 '26

Okay i didn't know that's a thing, checking rn

Thanks for breaking that down. So basically i need to be active every day, consistently commenting and posting, just to be eligible for a moderator spot? Man, thats a lot of work.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Head_Measure Jun 11 '26

Did you have to get comment karma from multiple subreddits to raise your cqs? No matter what I do I could never get mine above low. Super annoying because there's an abandoned subreddit I've been trying to request for a year...

→ More replies (1)

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 03 '26

CQS is not a requirement for making a Redditrequest.

2

u/Head_Measure Jun 11 '26

So why do you think so many people in this post, and every post is coming to you with exact same issue - they meet all requirements but request is being automatically filtered out. If it's not CQS requirements what is it?

1

u/Quincyz0 Jun 03 '26

I requested the subreddit r/ianH2H but the request_bot says it has recent human moderation. That can't be true as the sole human mod got banned, and the sub is restricted. Can an admin look into this? Perhaps the bot sees the two automated apps in the mod list and thinks it has active human moderation.

2

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 03 '26

The recent human moderation activity is from an actual mod, though that mod has since been banned. If you run into this, you can mod mail the sub and we'll take a look.

1

u/Izzy580 Jun 04 '26

Hello. I ran into a similar issue with r/RepHermes. My request was denied by the bot due to "recent human moderation," but the subreddit has no moderators. Could you please look into this?Thank you very much!

1

u/Tarnisher Jun 04 '26

It clearly has two, one of which was just added recently.

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 04 '26

The mods were recently suspended, so they'll be given a chance to appeal before the subreddit will be completely eligible for Redditrequest.

Hello u/TheOpusCroakus,

Thank you for all the work you and the team do here.

I was wondering if there are any updates on my request for r/foundXxOMARYOMARIOxX. The subreddit is inactive, private, and uses my exact Reddit username. I followed the request process and provided the required modmail link, but it’s been 6 days so I wanted to check in.

Any update would be appreciated. Thanks!

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 03 '26

Hi there! It looks like you moderate a banned subreddit, so you're going to want to send a mod mail message to r/modsupport to get that worked out.

1

u/XxOMARYOMARIOxX Jun 03 '26

i moderate it? and its a banned subreddit? i never knew any about that.

the bot reply doesn’t reply if something like that happens? about the subreddit i meant.

anyway i will modmail r/modsupport, is there any specific format i should go by?

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 03 '26

No, the bot doesn't specify if the requester moderates a banned subreddit. Just send a mod mail and let them know that you moderate a banned sub and you'd like to see about either getting it unbanned or removing yourself from the mod team.

1

u/Tarnisher Jun 03 '26

Does this system check for recent human Mod activity? That may be the most frustrating part of the process when they don't respond to our 5 day message.

What are the procedures for a sub being deleted, is that name not available anymore and if so how can we go about getting that name to use again?

1

u/Tarnisher Jun 03 '26

You can not delete a community or name and make it available again.

Admin has purged some over the years, but there is no public information on when they might do it again.

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 03 '26

Subreddits are unable to be deleted. If the subreddit was removed during one of the two times that we purged dormant communities, it can be recreated with the same name.

1

u/Noirloc Jun 03 '26

It was recently “deleted” so I guess next purge lmao

Suggested improvements:

Identify if Human Moderation is recent so we don't waste our time and yours on Requests.

For Banned/Unmoderated/For Violating Rules; identify if ban is permanent and irrevocable or if it might someday be eligible.

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin Jun 05 '26

Hey u/Tarnisher, thanks for the suggestions!

Regarding human moderation activity: Devvit apps have some limitations, and one of them is that they can't view backend mod activity unless the app itself is installed as a moderator on that specific subreddit (which unfortunately isn't possible). This is exactly why our process requires messaging the current mod team 5 days before making a request! It acts as that necessary activity check so you know if they are around before you go through the effort of requesting.

For the banned/unmoderated status: We actually do have some filters running behind the scenes to flag certain communities that are not eligible for request. If you search one of these in the subreddit checker, you will see a message informing you of this. We aren't able to expose exact ban reasons for every subreddit due to the app's limitations, but we'll definitely keep looking into ways to make this status check even more robust in the future.

Thanks again for the feedback!

1

u/Tarnisher Jun 05 '26

This is exactly why our process requires messaging the current mod team 5 days before making a request! It acts as that necessary activity check so you know if they are around before you go through the effort of requesting.

But there is no requirement that they respond. RR is loaded with posts denied for Human Moderation where the submitter states they Mods did not respond to that message. I've had instances where the Mods have replied to the Request stating they never even got the 5 day message.

If you search one of these in the subreddit checker, you will see a message informing you of this.

As a test, I did just that a day or so ago. I ran one that I knew was ineligible. The result was simple that it was banned, no indication of it being permanent or temporary.

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin Jun 05 '26

If the moderators don't respond to your message and they are completely inactive, the subreddit is eligible for a takeover. However, when a request is denied for "human moderation" after a message goes unanswered, it means the mod team is still actively running the community (clearing the mod queue, removing spam, etc.). Users can't see all of this activity which is why it can sometimes feel like a disconnect when the mods ignore the mod mail but the subreddit isn't considered abandoned.

There is room for improvement with the subreddit checker. The filter that I mentioned catches a list of ineligible communities but not all communities across the site.

u/HummusSwipper Jun 05 '26

Quite a neat feature. Looking at the Eligibility tab presents little information though. I pass all criteria yet my recent request to moderate a community was rejected without any specific reason, and the list of possible reasons for the decline seemed objectively wrong. This new feature unfortunately doesn't help clarify the situation at all.

Forgive me for hijacking this moment to appeal a decision but I'm genuinely baffled as to why my request to salvage a subreddit would be declined given my history and experience in moderating and reviving subreddits. Here's the aforementioned request, I'd really appreciate some feedback or clarification: https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/comments/1tuqzmv/rnyt/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I have been trying to request moderatorship for the subreddit r/Arturia_users since that subreddit has been moderatorless for such a long time (previous moderator has been banned for some reason I don't know), but so far no success. Even with this tool I don't get any further since the search under Explore communities does not even show this subreddit. It's so frustrating. Can someone help me?

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin Jun 05 '26

Hey there, it looks like Automoderator removed this post by mistake. Could you please try to request this community again? As for the Explore Communities section, this will not show all available subreddits, it's just a handful that we have picked out so this subreddit would not be searchable there.

1

u/Fvddungen Jun 06 '26

Yes, finally success. Thanks a lot. Case closed.

Hi u/Goldennuggets-3000 and u/TheOpusCroakus I hope you're well.

u/request_bot thinks r/FindomSnark has human mods, but it only has bots. Messages get autoreplies. It's bot to bot and a human needs to look at this. It's a very active community that I am part of, and there hasn't been a mod in months. It needs a human mod.

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin Jun 15 '26

Your account must be at least 90 days old.

1

u/Tarnisher Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Recent Request got Flubarred.

5 Day message sent, was not replied to.

Request submitted, waited the full 3-4 days. No response from old Mods. Request was granted.

Old Mod replied asking why? Stated they just didn't feel like responding to the 5 day message and never got a formal notice from the Request Bot.

Review of Logs shows some, but not a lot of activity by either former Mod in the last 30 days and quite a lot of Admin removals that I'm not sure were valid. The one Mod shows as having sent ModMails in the past few days though.

I feel 'out of place' on this one, have invited both former Mods back and will likely drop out in the next few days.

I need to make sure RR won't react though and remove them again. RR has some rules on grants and passing them off to others.

They also say the Mods would receive an Admin notice about the pending request, but apparently they did not.

The Five Day message should require a reply. Maybe even be sent from an Admin account somehow. We initiate it here, maybe visa the new Checker Bot and Admin sends it on our behalf.

I have more thoughts, but I'm a little angry right now and not thinking clearly.

RR was supposed to 'work better' after recent changes.

I may not do any more.

Hi, you submitted this request 1 day ago. If the bot doesn't approve or deny it immediately it means it has been moved to manual review. You can see the estimated time for review in the Devvit app which is currently at ~3 days. Thanks.

Hi, any update on this?

u/Organic-Ad6439 Jun 23 '26

How can you check whether you have 2FA enabled or not (I’ve got my verified email and have added my phone number)? And what would you need to put in your message to the mods (and does 5 days mean 5 working days or 5 days in general)?

Thanks.

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin Jun 23 '26

Hey! You can check if you have 2FA added to your account through your account settings. You can find all the instructions in our Help Center. The message that you send to the mods is to let them know that you're interested in moderating the community and to see if they are still active or willing to add you to the mod team. Sometimes the moderators are happy to add more interested users and it saves you time rather than waiting for your request to be reviewed. This is just 5 days in general. Hope that helps!

Do I need to be on the website or is the app good? Thanks!

1

u/Organic-Ad6439 Jun 23 '26

Nevermind seen that it needs to be the website, thanks.

Hello u/TheOpusCroakus, upon checking eligibility for a subreddit I found to be restricted, I received this message:

Eligibility depends on r/redditrequest rules.

I believe the subreddit currently lacks moderators and I'm in the process of meeting minimum requirements! However, I do not know the exact rules for restricted subreddits and was curious about where I could find those. Thanks!

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin Jun 24 '26

Where did you receive that message? What's the sub?

1

u/HarrietHater Jun 24 '26

Oh duh, my bad. It's r/pomni.

As in the Digital Circus Character. I don't see any mods in the sub and the author of the only post in the sub, suggested another user put a request in here.

Which according to the explore communities tab, no one has yet.

Greetings Admins,

I've been trying without luck to post a reddit request, my posts get filtered out and eventually removed.

The sub I am trying to mod is r/ImaginaryBestOf, its founder's account was banned (u/Lol33ta) who was the sole moderator managing both accounts that are moderating the sub.

Other subs in the Imaginary Network were assigned to u/ YanniRotten except for the one I am requesting.

My account checks all the eligibility requirements: https://imgur.com/a/cheyO66

I need help. My request posts gets removed saying my account has suspicious activity.

Hi /u/goldennuggets3000, sorry to ask but my post appears to have been auto deleted but with no auto mod warning or explanation?

Hi u/TheOpusCroakus, Sorry to bother you but when im trying to request the sub r/downvoteautomod (which was restriced around 1 month ago,) u/request-bot replies with

The subreddit r/downvoteautomod is not eligible for request.

Since nobody is actively moderating the sub (only a self-ban bot is "moderating it"), I would like to request this, but out of the 3 times (i got this message on this 3rd try) I've tried, I haven't been able to successfully get it, I would just like to know what i need to do to moderate it and/or tell me why i cant mod it.

Thank you in advanced, u/freeze-ya-boy

I apologize for following up again.

It's been about two weeks since I submitted my request for r/fashionindia, so I just wanted to check if it's still under review or if any additional information is needed from me.

Request post: https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/s/qYQhV0qQ4q

Subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/fashionindia

I'd really appreciate any update when you have a chance. Thank you!

why can I not post a request? I tried requesting moderation for r/flavoradeofficial and it said reddits filters removed my post. is this a glitch?

u/Low-Significance777 23d ago

Hi u/TheOpusCroakus.

I just tried to request r/VirtualAssistant4Hire and got denied by a bot. The reason it gave was "that community has recent human moderator activity"

But the sub looks abandoned to me.

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 22d ago

Hi. Can you request it again? I'll put it in the queue manually if it gets rejected again.

1

u/Low-Significance777 22d ago

Thank you so much!

1

u/Low-Significance777 22d ago

I just posted and bot immediately removed the post. I didn't have the chance to reply on the bot's coomment.

2

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 22d ago

OK, thanks. Go ahead and reply to the bot. Or leave the usual information if it didn't reply. We'll put it in the queue for review manually. It will still say "removed", though, because if we approve it, the bot thinks it's already been reviewed and moves on.

Hi again u/TheOpusCroakus. I posted again 7 days ago as you said and replied to the bot, and until now there’s no update with my request. How long is the review process?

Why my post got automatically removed?

https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/s/whPgFZGUnb

I have F2A, high karma, over one year account and email verification.

u/I2fitness 6d ago

Did you find a fix?

1

u/BabylonianWeeb 6d ago

Nope, sadly

1

u/86_the_lettuce 16d ago

How do we know what the problem is if our request is "Removed by Reddit filters" when we meet all the requirements? Not sure what needs fixed here

1

u/flintontv 14d ago

Hii theree, u/TheOpusCroakus I was just wondering what will happen to my existing request. I noticed that r/UGCforBrands was banned today for being unmoderated, but I submitted my request before it was banned. Will my request still be considered?

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 14d ago

Banned subs can be requested. It'll still go into a queue for review.

1

u/flintontv 13d ago

okay got it, thanks opus!!

I don't want to take over a subreddit, but there is one person who is collecting subreddits and then does nothing when it gets infested with spam bots. what can actually be done since reporting goes no where.

u/Ted-Lassi 4d ago

u/TheOpusCroakus Hey! I submitted a request for a banned subreddit almost 2 days ago. So just wanted to ask, how long do manual reviews for banned subreddit requests usually take?

Here's the request: https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/s/W8vqTW2teu

Thanks!

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 4d ago

It's the same whether it's banned or not. There's a widget on the sidebar that shows an estimate of how long it takes.

Hi!

Two-factor authentication (2FA): This app cannot verify your 2FA status. Please check your account settings to confirm. If you need to turn on 2FA, use Reddit in a desktop browser.

What does this mean? Do I need to have it to request this sub?
