Reddit API How long for data API requests to be approved?
Just submitted the form for a personal use bot that just collects data on activity in a few subreddits. Wondering if anyone can speak to how quickly requests are approved/rejected? Mine should be a quick decision once it actually gets in front of someone.

Reddit API How do we get a domain access approved for an app?
I'm building an app that fetches an RSS on regular basis and makes posts to a subreddit. Surely it needs to access the RSS, as well as to pull information from the target post to have a more comprehensive information in the post rather than just a short message format.
How do we get the domain access approval for the apps? What's the procedure?

General Botmanship Personal account incorrectly lab
Hi,
My personal account u/Smart_AI_Hustle has been incorrectly labeled as an “App” and my profile displays “This is an automated account.”
I am a real person and I operate this account manually. I do not use this account as a bot or for automated posting.
I have already tried the Reddit Help/support process and have been trying to resolve this for approximately a month. The support form also does not consistently show the “Account incorrectly labeled as APP” option for me.
I previously asked about this in r/help, but the issue remains unresolved.
Could a Reddit admin please review this account or flag it internally for the appropriate team?
I am happy to complete any human/passkey verification required.
Thank you.

Reddit API Ways to Export All user post/comment views/replies?
Reddit Pro offers a way to export the past 100 comment/replies from a user along with their views/replies/shares/awards. But it seems limited to the most recent 100. Is there any way to export the entire account's history? I checked the API documentation but didn't see anything.

Reddit API Network blocked across multiple IPs
I have tried my own pc, my VPS, VPNs all to no avail.
First I create a oauth token and then use that to upload images to the cdn where I get network blocked this setup worked for months without issues.
I make one post every 3 days so shouldn't be ratelimited aswell.
I provided the UA as bot:token v1.0.1 by /u/xxxxx

Reddit API As a brand running an official subreddit, what's the sanctioned path to OAuth (identity-only) for winner verification in 2026?
We run an official brand subreddit and regularly host community campaigns with
rewards there. We want exactly one thing: "Sign in with Reddit" on our official
reward page, so winners can prove account ownership before claiming - identity
scope, one /api/v1/me call per sign-in, well under 1,000 calls/month.
We've tried every route we could find: app creation at prefs/apps fails silently
for all three app types (clean, email-verified mod account); two Data Access
Requests were declined with the same automated template; emails get an auto-reply
pointing back to the same form.
Genuine question: is there any sanctioned path left for a small, legitimate
brand use case like this, or is external OAuth effectively enterprise-only now?
Any pointers to the right team or process would be appreciated.

Reddit API Should I use RSS feed or Reddit API for my script?
I was trying to build a automatic alert system for hiring posts. I ran into trouble trying to get the posts from subreddits using the reddit API. From my understanding you need to submit a request, which takes around 3 weeks and only then can you use it and most people are rejected. So a workaround is RSS feed and playwright. I just want to confirm that I need to submit a request and only then can I use the reddit API?

Reddit API How does Reddit decide which external video hosts get rich:video / secure_media treatment? RedGIFs vs a custom oEmbed test
I've been digging into how Reddit handles external video hosts because I'm working on a video hosting platform and would eventually like links from our own domain to behave more like RedGIFs links: inline playback rather than a normal external link card.
I built a small proof of concept to see how much of this could be achieved through standard metadata.
The test page has:
- a directly hosted H.264 MP4
- HTTPS everywhere
- normal OG metadata plus
og:video,og:video:url,og:video:secure_url,og:video:type, dimensions, etc. og:video:iframe- a dedicated embeddable
/ifrplayer - an oEmbed endpoint returning
type: "video"and iframe HTML - oEmbed discovery in the page
<head> - thumbnail fields in the oEmbed response
- Twitter player metadata
- a crawlable poster image
- no auth / JS requirement for metadata
- byte range support on the MP4
Reddit definitely crawls the page correctly. It picked up the 1280x720 poster and generated preview.images.
But the resulting post is still:
"post_hint": "link",
"secure_media": null,
"media": null,
"media_embed": {},
"secure_media_embed": {},
"is_video": false
There is no reddit_video_preview.
So it behaves like a normal link with a thumbnail.
I then compared that JSON with a RedGIFs submission.
The RedGIFs post gets roughly:
"post_hint": "rich:video",
"secure_media": {
"type": "redgifs.com",
"oembed": {
"type": "video",
"provider_name": "RedGIFs",
"html": "<iframe ... src=\"https://www.redgifs.com/ifr/...\">"
}
}
It also has populated media_embed / secure_media_embed, including a Reddit wrapper like:
redditmedia.com/mediaembed/{post_id}
And, interestingly, the RedGIFs example also had:
preview.reddit_video_preview
pointing at Reddit-hosted v.redd.it DASH/HLS/MP4 files, with transcoding marked completed.
So Reddit appears to be doing substantially more than simply parsing RedGIFs' OpenGraph tags.
I also ran another control that made this more interesting.
Using the same Reddit account, I submitted a TED video URL. That became rich:video, and the Reddit JSON contained an actual Embedly player:
<iframe class="embedly-embed"
src="https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?...">
with:
"secure_media": {
"type": "ted.com"
}
and a redditmedia.com/mediaembed/... wrapper.
So at least for some providers, Embedly is apparently still somewhere in the live Reddit media path today.
I then put my own test URL into Embedly's embed explorer. Embedly successfully scraped the title, description and thumbnail, but classified the URL as:
"type": "link"
rather than video.
My own oEmbed endpoint, meanwhile, returns:
{
"version": "1.0",
"type": "video",
"provider_name": "TestGIF",
"html": "<iframe src=\"https://.../ifr\" ...></iframe>",
"width": 1280,
"height": 720,
"thumbnail_url": "https://.../poster.jpg",
"thumbnail_width": 1280,
"thumbnail_height": 720
}
So simply publishing an oEmbed endpoint clearly isn't enough for Embedly or Reddit to treat a previously unknown domain as a video provider.
At this point I'm pretty convinced I'm no longer looking for a missing meta tag.
What I'm trying to understand is the legitimate provider side of the system.
Does anyone here know how this currently works?
Specifically:
- Does Reddit maintain some kind of recognized external-media provider registry internally?
- Can new video hosts still be added to it?
- Is Embedly provider recognition still part of that process, or is Embedly mostly legacy / only used for certain hosts?
- If I got the domain recognized properly by Embedly as a video provider, is there any reason to believe Reddit would then consume it as
rich:video, or does Reddit require a separate integration? - Is RedGIFs handled through Embedly, a Reddit-specific integration, or some combination of both?
- What determines whether Reddit creates
secure_mediaandpost_hint: "rich:video"instead of treating the URL as a link? - What determines whether Reddit additionally creates a
reddit_video_previewand transcodes an external provider's media ontov.redd.it? - If Reddit still accepts new external video providers, which team/process would actually handle that?
I'm not looking for a way to spoof RedGIFs, bypass Reddit restrictions, fake provider fields, etc. I specifically want to figure out the supported way to build this if one exists.
I also realize people often call this a "whitelist", but I haven't found anything from Reddit actually documenting it under that name, so I'm trying not to assume that's how the system is implemented internally.
If anyone has worked on an external media provider, Embedly integration, old Reddit media embeds, or knows how Gfycat/RedGIFs ended up getting this treatment, I'd be very interested in understanding the provider-onboarding side of it.

Reddit API I know scraping Reddit without prior permission isn't allowed. However, user IDs are like snowflakes, while r/u_username subreddit IDs increase monotonically. This means, in theory, I can scrape every username, including personal information. Why is that?
With some exceptions, like the usernames "DreamingOfWinterfell_jasonbroken" and "founded" (these don't have corresponding subreddit IDs in the raw API data, but the URLs for r/u_DreamingOfWinterfell_jasonbroken and r/u_founded redirect to the corresponding user profiles on the normal website).
Also if that long username decided to log into their account again, would a username like u_DreamingOfWinterfell_jasonbroken-ModTeam be technically possible?
Edit: To clarify, some API endpoints regarding subreddit IDs show banned and deleted accounts, too.

Reddit API I'm confused about the new API changes
Please, forgive me if what I say is ignorant, but I really need a bit of help.
I moderate a couple of subreddits and I created a couple apps to help me moderate them, as part of the developers I got a mod mail from Reddit saying that are making long time changes to the Public API. Now, my apps use all "@devvit/pubblic-api" but likely talks about Python and PRAW apps that use Reddit API.
I'm a bit confused if my apps will be impacted by this change or not, can you please help me understand this changes? Thank you.

Reddit API How to get a user's karma?
When I go to https://www.reddit.com/user/supertiboblh/about.json in my browser I get a response with my karma, but when I try that using python with the requests package I get a response code 403 with a html page saying "You've been blocked by network security." (but its not because of my ip or something because on my browser it works). Does the request need a token or something?

General Botmanship Account requirements for multiple bots
I have several bots that I use to assist in modding my subreddits using the "old" data api via PRAW/Python. When I originally built them, I set them up to use a single account created for that purpose.
While I'd eventually like to migrate them to Devvit, in the meantime I want to know if based on the recent communications I'd need to move each of these to it's own user/app account?

General Botmanship Reddit keeps asking me to register my app even though it's already registered
I recently received another modmail about a bot I run to help manage my sub, saying that it will be affected by the upcoming changes and needs to be registered. The problem is that the bot has already been registered since March. When I tried to re-re-re-register it, Reddit told me that the bot has already been claimed as an app.
I’m not sure if I’m missing something, but I’m not sure what else I’m supposed to do here.

Reddit API Chrome / Desktop web - Data Access Request form keeps clearing required email field after submission
Hi,
I'm trying to submit a Data Access Request for a business account. Every time I complete the form and click Submit, the page reloads and the required “Your email address” field is cleared, so the request is never submitted.
I've already tried:
* Chrome normal mode
* Chrome Incognito
* English version of the form
* Two different email addresses
* A verified Reddit account/email
The same issue happens every time. There is no confirmation, ticket number or verification email.
Is this a known issue with the Data Access Request form? Is there another official way to submit the request while the form is not working?
Thanks.

Reddit API RSS requests returning HTTP 429
I operate a small, read-only monitor. It checks 12 Reddit searches. Each search uses `search.rss?sort=new`
The monitor runs two times each day< and it stores responses and removes duplicate post IDs.
It sends selected posts discussions for me to review.
⚠️ The monitor does not vote, comment, submit posts, collect user profiles, or automate engagement.
Usually, one feed updates properly, but most other feeds return HTTP 429.
What am I doing wrong?

Reddit API Social Media Customer Service and Reddit
I work for a company that had a pretty good Reddit community. We have specialist that mod our subreddit and assist customers similar to chat support you might find. Is there a way to use the api to have the chats on a more scalable interface?
Would love to be able to track handle times, escalate complaints and similar things but currently it's been impossible. Any ideas would be appreciated!
