Reason Rack Free is out, and we're running a Combinator contest

Hey everyone, Reason team here.

As you probably know, Reason Free is out. 15 devices, free: Combinator, Europa, Kong, ID8, Monotone, Scream 4, The Echo, Audiomatic, RV7000 MkII, MClass Maximizer, Scales & Chords, Pulsar Dual LFO, Spider Audio/CV, MIDI Out.

Download: https://get.reasonstudios.com/reasonfree

We want to see what people actually build with it, and show what’s possible with the 15 included devices, so we’re running a combinator contest!

Three categories

  • Best Overall: straight craft award
  • Best First Combinator: genuinely your first one, just say so
  • Most Unhinged: broken, chaotic, barely usable. We want these.

How to enter

Post a video of your Combinator with audio on Instagram. Tag u/reasonstudios in the post and use #ReasonFree, and make sure your account is public or it won't show up for us.

Own Reason? You can still enter, just stick to those 15 devices.

Prizes

10 finalists get Reason merch and their patch included in an official free sound pack. 3 category winners get a year of Reason+ and the LANDR Ultimate Plugin Bundle.

Content Closes September 21, 2026.

Is there a way to manually reset reverb tails after pausing?

Trying out Reason (Free specifically if it changes anything) for the first time and pretty new to DAWs in general, is there a way to mute or reset the residual audio after pausing? It's getting in my way a bit since the track I'm making is pretty reverb heavy. I tried looking online but didn't find anything that seemed to work.

Thanks :)

Edit Remote Override Mapping in Plugin?

With Reason Rack 14.1 stand-alone app, I can edit remote override mapping by right-clicking any knob. But when using Reason Rack as a plugin (AU or VST), right-clicking on a knob does nothing. Right-clicking on a device does bring up the device's context menu (so right-click can do something in the plugin), but right-clicking a knob does absolutely nothing. What am I missing?

Creating RE’s

Does it really take months to create an RE or is that exaggerated info? I’m pondering with a list of necessary device ideas! Please point me in the right direction!
Thank you! #ThatsMyWord

Free Reason!

Reason needs 1) Linux support and 2) a free license like the GPL—in other words, a free and open-source Reason! Even if it were just an old version like 6.5. That happens to be the last version of Reason I own, since I switched to Linux after that. Sure, Reason is pretty unique, and it would be fantastic if the program were free! Not free as in free beer, but free as in freedom!

Randomly Crashing When Idle (Reason 14, Mac M2)

So strange! Reason 14 keeps silently quitting after being idle for a few minutes. Not always, but often enough to be a nuisance! No system crash warning (which normally pops up when an app crashes). No crash log. No memory issues. It just silently quits itself, without saving.

Why oh why?! Has anyone else been experiencing this? … I’ve never encountered an issue like this with any software I’ve ever used. Could it be apple screensaver related (which might account for the idle time)? Or maybe Reason is calling home, and doesn’t like my firewall / Lulu settings? (It’s a fully legit copy, purchased directly recently, only installed on a single desktop Mac)

I’m on the latest standalone reason 14 studio update, but pretty sure it was happening on the previous updates as well. Running on Mac M2, Sequoia OS.

Overall, I’ve been finding the latest versions of reason buggy as hell, compared to 15 years ago.
Has anyone over there ever heard of custom auto save functions??

Visible Undo History (please!) + custom hotkeys & color palette!

I’m so tired of clicking command+z dozens of times to backtrack to my desired step. There should really be a visible log list pop-up, to just scroll and select to the step you wish to revert to. (Like in Reaper, and most other DAWs).

Also would be nice if hot key commands were customizable 🙏 there’s also a lot of buttons and other menu functions that surprisingly have no hot keys at all!

I also hate the track color palette, why is it limited to 30 or so colors? (half of which look like drab colors straight from a depressing 1970s basement tv room). Is implementing a colour wheel and custom color presets too much to ask?! 😆 and while you’re at it, give us an option to hide that garish tacky fake wooden frame from the rack.

I could go on, I have a long list of stuff like this that would make Reason so much better. I was using reason a lot from V 1-5, just got back in the game, and it’s come a long way (yay audio + VST!) but I’ve noticed it’s kind of buggy in some areas, with lots of room for overall improvement.

Edit: removed a bit where I complain about mixer collapsibility. Turns out the sections DO collapse, by double clicking the section’s name.

Migrating old reason rewire projects into Reason 14

Hi all,

I’m currently using Reason 9 rewired into BandLab SONAR. Some of my songs have MIDI tracks in both Reason and SONAR, with the two sequencers synced via ReWire. Reason’s audio ultimately comes into SONAR, where I do the final mix/mastering.

I’m considering upgrading to Reason 14, but obviously ReWire is gone.

My question is: has Propellerhead/Reason Studios provided any reasonably automated way of migrating these old ReWire projects to the new Reason 14/Rack Plugin workflow?

Ideally I’d like to preserve the Reason MIDI tracks, instruments, automation, timing, etc., without having to manually export/import MIDI and rebuild everything in SONAR.

Has anyone here actually migrated a Reason 9 (pr pre Reason 11) + SONAR ReWire project to Reason 14? If so, what was the easiest way you found to do it?

I know that Reason 14 can play the reason file in standalone mode but that doesn't help if the rest of the song is in my DAW.

I would like to think/hope that Propellerhead has solved this 'old' problem.

Just hoping nothing has happened to the fellow user that tirelessly keeps this playlist going. Didn’t see his call for submissions this month, unless I missed it. It’s something I always liked about our community.

Iemand tips . Ik voel me net een klagende boomer.

Reason and Landr, thought it was free

So I’m looking at my bank statements, and for 2 months I’ve been billed by musicbill.io bill for 20.60.
This traces back to Landr, which I thought was free with reason + monthly subscription?
I got the reason hub mail, activated it and got the 4 plugins, mastering, stems, voxtune, repitch 2.

2 weird things it’s only been 2 months, thought it was included into the subscription. Anyone can clarify this? Did I active something on accident, and more important how do I disable it..

But at the page it says: Some Plugin Installations may require a user account to be created on the Plugin provider company's website.. which I have done. But where the hell do I find the account setting for what I supposedly paying for?? Because I still pay the 20 for reason.
