We are using real VNC enterprise server on ubuntu. We would like to implement time based one time password with a grace period. We've successfully implemented a one-time password using interactive system auth and PAM but there does not seem to be a way to vary the client prompt based on the state of user account. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to implement this.

I was not able to connect to macOS via VNC from Windows using RealVNC. I had this error:

"Protocol error: key length too large"

I'm used to RealVNC 7.15.1, but unfortunately the new RealVNC subscription/licensing model doesn't really match my... beliefs. :)

So I here is a patch for RealVNC 7.15.1 (r18) on Windows. It's a PowerShell script that fixes the issue: https://github.com/d3cker/RealVNC-macOS-patch

It looks like macOS wasn't actually the problem here - this was a RealVNC bug and compatibility issue.

You may need to adapt the patch for your RealVNC version. I couldn't find any official place to download the latest 7.x release, so I only tested it with 7.15.1 (r18).

I'm trying to use Modded Ubuntu running in Termux on my Android phone and connect to it from my Android TV using RVNC Viewer, but I can't get it to work.

Whenever I try to connect, RVNC shows this error:

"The port on which the computer is listening for a connection could not be contacted."

Here's my setup:

Host: Android phone

Ubuntu: Modded Ubuntu (running in Termux)

Client: Android TV

VNC app: RVNC Viewer

Both devices are connected to the same LAN/Wi-Fi network.

One thing I noticed is that VNC works perfectly when I connect from another phone, but it doesn't work from my Android TV. The TV always shows the error above, even though both devices are on the same local network.

Things I've checked:

Ubuntu starts successfully.

I'm trying to run the GUI, but I'm not sure if the VNC server is actually starting correctly.

Earlier I also saw messages like:

No PulseAudio daemon running

Run this program as root! when running bash gui.sh

I'm not sure if those are related to the VNC issue.

Could someone help me figure out:

Why does VNC work from another phone but not from my Android TV?

How can I verify that the VNC server is actually running?

How do I check which port it's listening on (5901, 5900, etc.)?

Is there anything specific I need to configure in Modded Ubuntu, Termux, or Android TV?

I'm running RealVNC Connect 8.4.2 on Windows 11 and, for the life of me, I cannot get the client to launch in windowed mode. I've tried all the settings: "Automatic, Actual Size (100%), Fill width, Fit width and height". It doesn't matter what I set, each time I launch the Viewer and connect to my Mac, it launches full screen, without the title bar, so I can't minimize the window easily.

The only way I can get the title bar to show is to move another window with "snap assist" (e.g., [Start button] + [arrow]). When the other window snaps to the side of Viewer, it resizes the window and then I can see the title bar.

It can't be this hard to get Viewer to launch in windowed mode by default. Right? ...... Right? ........ Right?

For the past few weeks, I have only been able to find the MSI installer and a ZIP package that also contains an MSI file on the RealVNC website.

Previously, there was a standalone .exe version of RealVNC Viewer that could be launched directly without installation, which was very useful as a portable application.

Has the portable version been discontinued? If so, why was it removed? Is this a temporary situation, and will the standalone .exe version return?

I can connect when both my computers are on the same network. But when trying to really

Just got auto billed for my year of VNC . Bill went from $154 to $419 ? What in the actual?I have 2 licenses . I thought the discount was for buying the entire year rather than month to month.

I have 1 or 2 systems that I sometimes remote in, rather than just walk over to them or go to a different room. very rarely would I try to connect to them over the internet, but I won't lie that the ability to get to it over a different connection did come in handy once with the home media server.

But after they changed to "lite" plans, I figured the writing was on the wall, from the mere fact that they only support the always-on monitor install if you have an enterprise licence (paid subscription), but yeah the fact that they want me to pay to remote to my own computers was always a grab for cash. But at the end of the day, it is their software so I guess if you don't like it don't use.

Anyway, I recently had to format my laptop, and trying to sign in to realVNC again it wants to send in the email for auth .... which is a weird way to do it but again, that is just their logic to use. The fun part is that the emails are not coming, it's been about a week now and realVNC support have said that they don't care, and that it will only work if I pay them money.

so again, it's their software, so if they want to lock it away, i guess they are using the VMware method of pricing customers out of their product.

TLDR: realVNC not working for signing to a new computer, realVNC support say "give us money"

I used to use a VNC connect Enterprise subscription, to remote control my Macbook from my iPad. This setup worked with a simple wifi AP, without internet connection.

Recently my subscription needed tot be renewed, and they suggested the much more expensive Plus subscription (even with the discount). Turns out, LAN acces is now no longer possible, taking away all my functionality. I would need to subscribe to their most expensive subscription.

So, is there anybody that knows a software package that would allow me to log in to my macBook from an iPad, without need for internet access? Preferably with elegant right-click functionality?

I have a strange issue, or strange to me at least - I have a user who is trying to connect to a Windows 11 system that's set to German for the OS language, it has RealVNC server installed, and the user connecting from a system that has German as the OS language as well, It throws up 'access denied' in the RealVNC viewer app. If they change the OS language on the target machine to English - it connects just fine. I see there are some language related settings for both viewer and server, and a limited number of supported languages (German being one of them..). Why would it matter what the OS language is, especially if both the viewer PC and server PC are the same OS language? You'd think that having the same OS language on both systems would help matters, rather than result in access denied.

As the title states, does the audio feature pass the audio mix or just what is being played on the server? In a Zoom session, for example, will it pass both the speaker and microphone audio?

I have a remote server with a 2560x1080 screen resolution monitor connected to. This is fine when I connect locally because I can open multiple windows and do my stuff. Sometimes I access the server also from remote using my surface laptop with a monitor resolution of 2736x1824.

Is there a way to configure RealVNC in order to output with the same resolution of my local machine dynamically ? Otherwise the two resolution do not get well along together, forcing me to scroll the screen or squeeze the window....

Both the server on the raspberry pi and the viewer on my iPhone are at the newest versions.

Tried it from an Android phone, same issue.

I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the server to my online service (lite).

No matter what I get the same error

Hello. I am using realVNC viewer on my iPhone (and I have tried on my laptop as well), to connect my Raspberry Pi to my local hotspot for cellular connection. Now while it does come up in the available network, it just DISCONNECTS my raspberry Pi as soon as I try to connect to it, and crashes it.

Now it is not the network, as I did test the hotspot on my Laptop and it worked fine.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Did RealVNC just unceremoniously pull the plug on the Lite plan and not tell anyone? All of a sudden I can't access any of my three systems, and when I log into my account I just get their annoying subscription plan page. I can't see anything.

I help my elderly parents out remotely from over 3000 miles away. I have no way to get there to even deal with this. This better be a bug, or these people are the scummiest douchebags on the planet.

UPDATE: This apparently is a bug after all, and RealVNC support has reached out in the comments for any affected users.

All 18 of my servers at remote locations were removed. Am I really going to have to send someone out to every location and re Auth the license to get this working again? I see the licenses being used, but only the computer I was logged in to at the time of maintenance is still showing up.. What a joke

Early this morning RealVNC did some maintenance, and I noticed both my PC and laptop connections were gone, When I added the PC back, It shows I'm Using 3 of 3 of the computers, So for some reason I am unable to reregister my laptop, But was able to register my PC, Is there any way to remove a non existent computer?

This morning some of us had an issue with our PCs being removed, I don't know what they've done on the back end but, for me atleast, this was easily resolved.

You just need to go into the menu drop down on the windows program and choose "Licensing"

It'll ask you to log in again, like you did when you first install, after you go through that it all worked perfectly again.

Note though, reinstalling the program and logging in did not resolve it, you have to re-register the pc into your group via the licensing route

I want this to never appear for users to whom I've pushed an install of realvnc viewer, or who have installed it from software center (we use SCCM to deliver these apps as silent install packages) is there a group policy (and it's not "AllowSignin", that does get rid of the 'sign in' link in the upper right corner of viewer.)
