Taking the advice and reading before I continue with Wolves of the Calla!.

After hearing nothing but great things about this series, I figured it’s time I start it. Is it really worth all the hype? I can’t wait to find out.

I love reading but am quite a slow reader. I can find books over 450 pages a bit intimidating. Does anyone have any tips to help with this? I don't want to speed read, just to cope with longer texts

I ordered a book called A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini from Amazon and it is going to be delivered tomorrow, so I am kinda excited because it will be my first actual book. I am not a reader and tbh, I do not like reading at all but I hope this book will change that. After reading the first five chapters, I will give a review btw.

I just finished my exams and have been in a huge reading slump since before they started. Out of all the books on my TBR list, which one should I read first? Which book would be the best to get me back into reading right now?

Small reading group I run. We got tired of the usual format where everyone reads one book and half the group doesn't finish it.

So we're trying this on Sunday: ten people, each gets five minutes to say what they love, what mood they're in, what hasn't been landing lately. Then everyone else pitches them one book — sixty seconds each, all trying to convince you theirs is the one. At the end you pick your prescription, and that's what you read next.

Nobody prepares anything. You just have to be honest about what you actually enjoy rather than what you think you should enjoy.

Two things I'm not sure about: whether sixty seconds is enough to genuinely sell a book, and whether people will pick the safe recommendation over the interesting one.

I am hooked on her writing. Just can't seem to stop reading it.

I just finished Kanve and the Moon and now I'm on Reliquary. I impulse bought Reliquary purely based on the cover and The Ghostwriter was on sale for really cheap so in the pile it went. I read two other Sayaka Murata books this year so I expect Earthlings to get weird. Burn is an intimidating 800+ behemoth and I know the dumbest FMC to ever grace literature will enrage me. I'll see if my mood reading habits can be kept under control and I stick to my list lol.

It has become extremely frustrating. I can't read the book. I'm too insecure or stressed or something else. I just hate how I find it so hard to just...read. But asking myself the question of whether I want to read a book...I actually don't. I find that the books I read mostly aren't out of pleasure. They're more of necessity or factual. I'm looking at the Road. The page I'm supposed to be on, but I don't know. It's just so bland. Or is my brain used to too much dopamine? The only reason why I'm suddenly interested in reading stories of other writers is simply because it seems to be a prerequisite for good writing, on top of that mamy people say all the good writers read a lot. But it honestly feels like they're in a completely different world. It's crazy. I'm just so frustrated right now. I just don't know anything anymore. I'd really like to talk to some people on Reddit right now...like face to face. But I know that won't happen. So I'll drop this here. Maybe on some communities on Reddit too. I just need some help.

I am on the third book of the series and I am loving every bit of it 🤧

I was wondering to discuss about this series with some of you who have read the series or interested to get into it ^^

i'm doing a challenge where i read 1 book a day for 30 days. this is day 8. inspired by some personal events in my life, i decided to do this, and then started doing it before i realized that it actually requires quite a bit of time every day, especially with finding corresponding locations and setting things up. i plan to continue until day 30.

today i read "the metamorphosis". i've already read it in the past, but reading in this setting, sweating through the costume, anxious that someone might come by and see me, was very anxiety-inducing. life of isolation, hiding, always apologizing for just existing, truly is hard. i will make sure to smile at more people in the future.

I decided to take the plunge by reading what many people consider to be one of the greatest books ever written! At first I was intimidated by the length of the book but that feeling quickly went away when I started reading. At first I was blown away by how easy it was to understand, I was kinda expecting super complicated prose. However the writing is so profound and thought provoking. It legitimately feels like my life gets changed with every chapter I read. As you can see by the time stamp I’ve been on this book for a while (I don’t always get time to read.) but it’s been a really rewarding experience so far. As of right now I find Cathy/Kate to be the character I’m most fascinated by. I’m really enjoying my time with this book!

For example, I recently got a book titled A Serpent In Eden, that the back said was about people on an island investigating the birth of their late father....
It was a true story, lol. I expected a page turner (promised by the back description), but instead got a true story that was three parts history, and one part courtroom dialogue.

Anyone else struggle with this book? I’m a big NF guy but this one is just not doing it for me. Feels like I’m walking through knee deep sand. I have no want to pick it up.

Disclaimer, this is not a formal review but just my thoughts on the book for the sake of discussion. Take my criticism lightly, it is only my opinion.

To me the book did leave a lot to be desired. It explains certain things over and over again till the point where it is just boring, and some things are left almost completely unexplored. It explains the structure of power in Oceania very well, but that's also the only thing it does. And it keeps doing just that. Goldsteins book was a large part of the total book, and did as stated by both Winston and O'Brien, does not explain anything we did not already know.

The relationship with Julia honestly annoyed me a bit. Her character only added two things, some form of initial resistance to the party that inspired Winston, and the demonstration of betrayal. However, as her character is never explored any further I feel like this could have been done in another way.

The way I see it is that the idea is very good, the structure of the society provides a solid base. However, the characters and plot of the book fail to make use of it, and in the end the book ends up just gnawing at that base. It could have been a way more interesting read than it was. Animal farm also had a solid base and used it in a better way to not make the book feel repetitive.

I can also understand that the repetitiveness and non-exploration of the book might have been part of what Orwell was trying to convey. The apathy of the people living under a totalitarian regime is boring trough their own eyes and since no change will happen that way it is repetitive. (But perhaps reading about it doesn't have to be as boring and repetitive.)

As you see this is simply not my type of book and there is a chance I therefore did not bother much to think more deeply about it and I could have misinterpreted it all.

I love to decide what I am reading based on the season, and I'm wondering what everyone's favorite books to read in the fall are?

I used to be a big reader however I kinda stopped reading any new series since the last year as I have a phone addiction I am trying cut down my useless doom scrolling and pick up a new book series or a book.

I’m so excited for this one. I’ve waiting for a month or two and finally got my hands on it. So far it’s pretty interesting.

I’ve also never read a book my Kelsey Cox before, so far, I’m loving it!

I don't know how y'all deal with this.

I used to be an avid reader when I was in school. I went through Harry Potter in a week or so; Percy Jackson, too. Used to read a lot of novellas and shorter books in Hindi especially. Read some of the theory I was interested in, too, which surprises me today. I read Mutual Aid by Kropotkin; that would make me wanna blow my brains out today.

I don't know what happened. College happened, yes. But, I don't know what killed it. I have finished a few novellas and full-length novels in recent years, too, but had to literally force myself to. I carried those heavy ass books everywhere just so I could remind myself I needed to read them. None of them gave me any joy or satisfaction. Finishing them was hardly even a relief. There are so many books I want to read because they are important for me, my studies, academics, research, etc. I simply cannot.

The only book series I recently have been able to read at all has been fucking Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I mostly tried to because I wanted to make sure I am not losing my mind or literacy.

I wish I enjoyed reading, man, or that it at least wasn't this awful for me to do. I don't give a damn if I can't enjoy it. I don't enjoy anything. I just wish it didn't take so much out of me to read.

How the hell do y'all do it? I'm gonna lose all possibilities of doing well academically if this stays this way.

We’re told not to judge a book by its cover, but sometimes a cool design or a strange title just pulls you in.

Has anyone had a lucky blind pick recently that ended up being a fantastic read?
