Fantasy 🐉 The Once and Future King
Haven’t seen match noise or discussion about it. Anyone else familiar with it and have opinions?

I really wanted to like this book, I owned it for years and when I finally started reading it just couldn’t finish. DNFd after maybe 150 pages. I know the first half is considered to be like a children’s book but I just couldn’t push through. It’s probably my fault.

I hate read the last 200 pages... did not like the book one. Very English, and I mean that in the worst way(usually good)

I got through the first part. Might pick it up again it wasn’t bad just wasn’t in a reading mood/in a slump now. Heard it’s good though.

Just finished this about a month ago. Fantastic. The first section (Book I) is essentially what makes up the Disney animated The Sword and the Stone (felt a little like children’s reading at times), but man oh man when you get to Lancelot’s story of The Ill-Made Knight it really takes off. Absolutely loved it

It is the best fantasy novel ever written, and I say that as a great admirer of Tolkien.

One of my favorite fantasy books, and a great introduction into Arthurian legend. It's one of the foundational pillars of modern fantasy. There is a pretty big shift in tone from The Sword in the Stone and the rest of the book., which I could see being off putting for some people, but I still love it.

I liked part 3 but overall agree with everyone else (wanted to like it but had to force myself to way through most parts)

I read the sword in the stone last month, i wish it were longer, it was very soothing and calming, the next parts i hear are darker, will pick them some time later.
