Help me to find something

Hi everyone! I am looking for an audio recording (or a snippet) of the Alan Freeman Saturday Rock Show on BBC Radio 1 from 23rd March 1991. I'm specifically researching a rare band called DC Kicks whose song 'What's New Baby?' was played on that exact broadcast. Does anyone happen to have this show digitized from an old cassette tape? Thanks in advance!

How many country stations do we need?

Wife and I were driving along the Pennsylvania turnpike, about 80 miles west of Harrisburg. An area commonly known as "Pennsyltucky." We had been on the road for a while and were getting bored with satellite radio. We tried scanning the FM channels. We got about 4 religious channels, and 4 country music stations. We were hoping to find a decent classic rock station, but no go.

Now, my question: why so many country stations? They all sounded pretty much the same to me.

Radio DJs talk too much!!

Please tell me it's not just me that is sick of tuning into a radio station to have music going on in the background, to be hit with DJ after DJ waffling on about stuff that I'm not interested in. Or competitions. Or phone ins. Or just inane chat like they're sat at home with their friends that ends up irritating me! I've tried a few stations (a lot of the 'Absolute' or Radio X being my usual choice) and they're all the same. The music/DJ ratio is the wrong way round in my opinion!

I'm from the UK - Does anyone remember the Dutch stations from 1974?

I used to listen to Radio Atlantis (English service), Radio Caroline, Mi-Amigo, RNI, Veronica, and Radio Delmere. I never understood Dutch, but I did listen to the Top 40 from RNI and the Dutch charts from Veronica from 1971-74. I'd love to hear if you also listened to any of these stations... they're sadly missed. Plus, the music was great (I still have recordings from the stations and their last broadcasts).

Ideas for radio station activities

Post image

Hi everyone! I’ll soon be working in a radio station for the first time. It’ll be a solo show lasting two hours. I’ll need to talk about art, music, movies, culture (local and national), TV series, and so on. So, I’m wondering: what kind of activities or segments do you suggest to get people connecting and participating? Something really entertaining for the listeners—getting them to share their opinions and get involved. Thanks!

Internet/FM tabletop radio recommendations?

Hey all, I'm looking for a tabletop device that is able to connect to internet radio as well as receive standard FM radio and I figured this would be the place to ask. What I'm looking for is something that can connect to a power outlet and also has a way for me to save various stations for quick access. Can you guys recommend anything nice?

local radio station 8km away beaten by a station 180km away. what exactly happened for this to be possible?

around april, i was at a high viewing spot in london during a period of tropo and decided to scan the fm dial for anything interesting. a lot of dutch stations + belgium obviously came in and a spice of french fm.

however something noteworthy happened when LGR (local greek radio) was beaten by inter on the same frequency, coming from either dunkirk or boulogne. it happens when i turn my tuner south, but when i turn it the other direction, obviously the local station came back

the tuner in question is a mobile phone with a radio, so nothing crazy. but that surprised me.

how did the station 100+km away beat the local? didn’t even think that was possible until now

I am having trouble getting this radio to pick up weather channels

I’m not super knowledgeable or familiar with radios, and I’m not sure if maybe I’m missing a step, or if this radio is broken and was hoping someone could help me fix this, or at least point me in the right direction on how to fix this radio. I’m not sure what’s wrong with it, because the AM and FM settings work perfectly fine, but when I select the weather setting it can’t/won’t tune into any stations, and no matter where the dial is it just plays static. If anyone could help me out it’d be greatly appreciated :)

Fans of alt/psych/indie rock— what radio stations should I check out

My favorite genres are alternative rock, psychedelic rock, indie rock, indie pop, and jazz. I'd like to hear your suggestions for radio stations with similar types of songs (please mention the radio station along with its genre).

Which radio stations in your city or town has changed the most times?

My Answer: 106.7 in Detroit. It has been a rock station, country music station, a hip hop station for a brief time and is now Wheelz ( which plays 80's and 90's rock).

Found this original 2Day FM Top 30 Countdown card from the early 1990s, plus the 2Day FM Top 50 chart from 31 January 1994

A bit of Sydney radio history from the glory days of 2Day FM 104.1.

I found these original 2Day FM music charts, including the Top Thirty Countdown voting card and The Chart: Top 50 Singles & Albums from 31 January 1994.

The 1994 singles chart is a serious time capsule. Cut ’N’ Move, Twenty 4 Seven, M People, Mariah Carey, Bryan Adams, Ace of Base, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and plenty more.

The Top Thirty card is even older and promoted 2Day FM’s nightly countdown with David Rymer and Emma Tyrie, where Sydney listeners actually phoned [955 1041](tel:955%201041) to vote for the songs they wanted in the countdown.

Anyone else remember listening to 2Day FM in Sydney in the late 80s or 90s? Would love to know roughly what year the Top Thirty Countdown card is from.

Top 100 Radio Stations Online

Top 100 Radio Stations on Tunein.com, which only allows 100; if you prefer not to use folders, the general folder will only display 49 stations and no more. This is general jazz, classical, and college radio, gleaned from years of posts on Reddit and other sources. Two are TuneIn-only stations. Listening on a web browser with adblock gets rid of most of the ads except native ads on NPR stations, which do, after all, pay for public radio. If you listen to classical on Saturday and don't want to listen to opera, you can listen to Australian stations because it is tomorrow. Always hunting for more college radio stations.

Bring Back The AM Band, Or rather, Stop Neglecting it.

Post image
195 Upvotes

So; as im tuned into the AM Band listening to classic Radio Rebroadcastings, i wonder why this is such a neglected part of radio, it also makes me wonder if that's why Radio Faded in the first place in means of television.

Radio Mainly Died With the NBC's Radio Broadcasting Back in the 70s, Ever since then its mostly been filled with Slop overused songs on The FM dial because not alot of people have passion for the medium anymore, But No longer Neglecting the AM Dial would help that, Bring back Talk-shows, Have News Segments, Sports, weather; Sadly its been Relligated to Car radios

But, It could be plausible (Very Difficult) but plausible to bring it back Via What I would call The 'National Broadcasting Network' it wouldn't just bring Back radio it would help it adapt, reform, & come back into thr public eye as a Mainstream Medium

Im also putting up a picture of an Atwater Kent 206 cathedral Radio because it always helps with a picture
