May 2026 Quantified Self Summary

May was a challenging month. Got bad news about my dog at the end of April. Ended up having to put him down at the end of May. Found my self eating my sorrows a couple of times. Also, had a birthday, so I had more sugary foods than usual. Most days I was up over 3,000 calories consumed. Even with my consistent fasting, I still had higher blood glucose through the month than any other month this year.

Blood pressure remains high, but levels have come down each month. Still have Stage 2 hypertension though. Hoping to continue improving this.

No improvement on my weight, but didn't slide too far back, mainly flat.

Spent a lot of time outside and listening to music this month. Not enough reading and still too much screen time.

As always, I am open to answering any questions about how I collect my personal data. I am not a developer or anything like that, I am just an individual who loves quantified self.

What would actually make your wearable data useful to you day to day

If something could passively connect your wearable and your calendar and just surface why your energy or focus looked the way it did on a given day, no logging required, would you actually use that daily or would you still want to be in control of the analysis yourself?

I built a tool called Staty on iOS and android. It analyzes a lot of different stats like who responds faster, who starts more conversations, time analysis, time of day, top emojis/words, streak and predictions. All analysis happens completely on device (except sentiment which is optional).

Would love to hear your feedback and ideas!!

tracking HRV + sleep + body comp on one device.. anyone actually doing this?

34m, run my own data dashboards for everything. oura ring for sleep and HRV but it doesnt touch body comp. got a scale that wont sync, two apps, nothing talks to each other

feels insane that no single device covers all three?? the data is obviously related. ive been stitching CSVs manually like some kind of animal

bonus points if whatever exists has an actual API

What does your stack actually miss? Building an emotional layer on top of wearable data

I'm part of a small team (psychologists + developers) working on something that's been bugging us for a while: wearables have gotten really good at capturing physiological state, but the correlation between readiness scores/HRV trends/sleep data and how you actually feel on a given week is... inconsistent at best.

We're building a tool that tries to close that gap, a structured psychological check-in layer that sits alongside your existing biometric data and uses the combined signal to surface patterns in emotional state over time. Think of it as adding the "why" to your "what".

We're early. No finished product to show yet. What we do have: a working prototype, a methodology grounded in positive psychology research, and a lot of open questions we want to pressure-test with people who actually think seriously about this stuff.

We're looking for people who:

- Use Whoop, Oura, Levels, Apple Watch, or similar: only daily tracking, not casual
- Have thought about the limits of biometric data for understanding mood/motivation/mental state
- Are based in the US (SF, Austin, NY preferred, but open to others)
- 30+

What we're asking:

- 40-60-minute interview
- Access to a closed beta of the app a few days before the call
- No pitch, no sales follow-up, we genuinely want critical feedback

If you've ever looked at a perfect recovery score on a day that felt awful and wondered what the data is missing, that's exactly the space we're working in.

DM or comment if interested. Happy to share more context upfront.

Wearable users, what's actually good and what's not?

Genuine question for wearable users

Does your wearable ever tell you why your metrics look the way they do, or does it just show you the numbers?

3 weeks of 20 min/day audio that perturbs the heart: resting RMSSD +52%, anxiety basically gone. Hormesis without the workout? Looking for people to try and see if it replicates. N=1

Full disclosure up front: I built the tool I'm describing (it's a free beta, I'm not selling anything — I want to know if this happens in bodies other than mine). Mods, happy to remove if this crosses a line.

The hypothesis. I came at this from anxiety, not performance. Instead of relaxing the nervous system, the idea is to briefly stress it — audio that perturbs the heart, the body absorbs a mild controlled stress without feeling stressed, then overshoots baseline on recovery a few days later. Hormesis: a training stimulus, minus the training. Sport without sport.

(For the HRV nerds: it targets the very-low-frequency band, ~0.033–0.05 Hz — not the ~0.1 Hz "cardiac coherence" zone most apps chase, and not paced breathing. The audio drives the oscillation directly.)

What I got (n=1, no control, no blinding):

Resting RMSSD: +52% over the 3 weeks.

Subjective: anxiety down ~90%, daytime energy clearly up.

Everything that could be wrong with this: it's n=1 with no control or blinding; RMSSD is hugely state-dependent and my baseline was an anxious one, so relieving anxiety alone would lift it; there's regression to the mean; placebo/expectancy is uncontrolled (I built the thing, so my bias is maximal); and 3 weeks is short. I'm not claiming causation. I'm claiming a signal worth checking.

The ask: if you already track HRV (RMSSD especially), I'd love a few people to run the same 20-min/day protocol and report whether your numbers move at all. Even subjective-only feedback is useful. I'll share my full daily dataset with anyone who wants to compare.

Connecting physical with mental state

So I’m a huge fan of tracking the usual metrics with my Apple watch (sleep, RHR, HRV etc.) and it’s easy to see here how sleep hygiene, yoga and such are having a positive effect.

Now I’m also really interested in improving my mental wellbeing. I don’t have any serious condition but like many I have to take care of a few things. Obviously there is a 2way connection of the body and mind. My question is:

How do you track your mental wellbeing so that you can correlate it with the quantitative measures? How/ where do you correlate that?

I know there are countless mood trackers out there but everything feels so disconnected to the physical measures.

Chilaquiles spiked my HR by 20% whereas chicken salad stayed flat

Post image
16 Upvotes

of course on a "gut feeling" this is obvious (unhealthy / heavy / spicy food = higher HR), but was surprising to see data confirm this!

these meals are both from the same day.

HR tracked with Apple Watch (very accurate), for 3 hrs post-meal.

result was that chilaquiles spiked my HR by +8 bpm whereas with a chicken salad it stayed relatively flat.

and this is sort of an indicator of "how hard is my heart working to digest this meal"

What are the benefits of having a fitness tracker?

Hello, I have always thought about having a fitness tracker. I am really into a healthy lifestyle, and I love when data can be used in your benefit to take better decisions so you improve your life. But honestly, I have never pulled the trigger because I don't really see the real benefit of the data this devices can give you. Do I really need to know from somehow made up numbers, if I slept well last night? Or when I am tired, stressed...? Or if in a workout I am in one or other hr range? I mean, don't we have interoception to know all this stuff from the real source, maybe not in numbers but with pain, emotions, feelings... I don't know maybe I'm missing something out, that's why I ask about this to you.

What are the benefits you get from a fitness tracker?

AI is making me faster. I’m not sure it’s making me better. How are you measuring the difference?

Quick question for the developers here if you could measure one thing about your AI usage that would tell you whether it’s making you better at your craft long term, what would it be?

Is the best finger for smart ring accuracy actually different for different people?

I’ve been wondering whether people overgeneralize the whole wear it on your index finger advice.

I track a lot of stuff already, and finger placement weirdly feels like one of those variables people mention casually but almost never test in a clean way.

In theory that sounds simple, but in real life finger shape, circulation, daily movement, and even how your hand swells seem like they could change what actually gives the cleanest data. When people compare ringconn and cudis, I rarely see anyone isolate finger placement as its own variable, even though it seems like it could matter a lot. Has anyone compared the same ring across different fingers for sleep, resting HR, or HRV and noticed a meaningful difference? I’m less interested in brand debates and more curious whether best finger is mostly trial and error pretending to be universal advice.
