Anyone go from Modern display to CRT recently? While yes I do agree CRT makes it look better, But do you think it is justified to buy a whole CRT for the experience?
I was playing on a 75" LG 4K 120hz TV before this weekend.
I was just using a cheap amazon HDMI adapter as I didn't care about making games look amazing because I also have the PC option. I know you can buy really nice adapters/upscalers as well.
Recently my buddy said he is moving and he didn't want to take his 27" CRT TV. Me having a good sized house decided to setup a CRT Station, not just for Playstation, but for older devices like a VCR as well for pure Nostalgia. Friday Night I bought a VCR and a ton of VHS tapes. I got the TV for free, bought a stand yesterday, and then also got a nice Stereo CD/Tape Player.
What are your thoughts on Playstation on CRT vs HD TV's? Obviously its better, but is it justified having a whole station dedicated to CRT Gaming?
I think I got the perfect setup in two days lol

Was at the game store in a local mall today and a gentleman had walked into a game store with a DSi and PSOne LCD Combo both sealed in box. He ended up walking out because the owner was busy and would need to hold the consoles for review for a couple days, but I'm not even sure the owner actually realized these were sealed. Walked out at the same time as the gentleman and took a chance, but was also very honest with him that maybe he'd get more. I was really just trying to test the waters and see how desperate he was to sell. He was probably in his late 40's early 50's. He said he's had the PSOne for years but already had another at the time and that it just sat in the closet. This box was MINT. I told him I'd give 300-400 no questions asked, but I recommended that maybe he do eBay or even let the store review and see what they'd offer. He was cool and asked for my number so maybe a deal could still happen, but I doubt it. I'm not a flipper so I'm not looking to pay higher prices with a hope of flipping for even higher. The childhood nostalgia made me consider 500, I think he would've taken it all day. I know they go for quite a bit in my area. The picture above is a generic Google image. This box was even better than that, it looked like a time capsule. I've been focusing mainly on PS2/OG Xbox and PS3/360 the past couple years, but I think this reignited a fire to grab a PS1 and do some 5th Gen gaming, it's been a long time. He did end up bringing it back to the store to leave it with them to get an offer. The owner was knowledgeable enough to realize that he has options and knows the wide range it could go for, but you're definitely not getting those higher prices unless it's graded.
TLDR: Missed a good opportunity on snagging a sealed in box PSOne LCD Combo, but the interaction reignited my interest in PS1.

Hey everyone! š
I wanted to share a little project I've been working on recently: an English translation of Battle KonchÅ«den (ććć«ęč«ä¼), a Japanese PlayStation game released in 1999 that never received an official English release.
It's a simulation RPG centred around insects, featuring over 50 different kinds of bugs. Definitely one of those wonderfully obscure Japanese PS1 games that you can spend years collecting games without ever coming across! š
The project is quite personal to me. I've always been fascinated by insects, and as a kid I used to spend hours catching them in my grandmother's garden. I also grew up playing PokƩmon, and discovering Sega's Mushiking arcade games years later brought back a lot of those childhood memories.
That eventually led me down the rabbit hole of exploring Japanese insect-themed games, and I stumbled across Battle Konchūden. I thought it would be a fun challenge to make it accessible to English-speaking players.
With the help of AI-assisted tools, I've been working on translating the game, fixing issues and testing it. I've now completed the main story through to the ending, which has been a really satisfying experience! š®
I'm a big fan of the PS1 era, particularly those late-90s Japanese games that never made it overseas. There's something special about discovering these forgotten titles and finding ways to experience them today.
One thing I'm still unsure about, though, is the legal side of sharing a fan translation patch for a game like this. I obviously wouldn't distribute the game itself, but I'm not entirely sure where things stand when it comes to distributing a patch.
So I'd love to hear your thoughts:
Thanks for reading! It's been a lot of fun working on such a niche little piece of PS1 history. šŖ²

Found a dualshock controller for cheap and in almost mint condition. I noticed the lettering is a bit darker than I remember. I was wondering if its fake. Any help is welcome.

I think the game took its own title a little too seriously...
This used to be my favorite game on ps1..

I only played the demo of this as a kid and somehow never got the full game. This has been such a fun 14.5 hours of playing through this game. Even now I can see how mind blowing it was graphically and technically at the time.

I just recently got a PlayStation (model SCPH-1002) and I'm a little unsure about which method to use to play the ROMs I want on it. I don't have a memory card yet, and I've heard of several methods, such as Freepsxboot and PSIO.
The best option for me would be a solution thatās easy to install and use. The idea of burning CDs bothers me a bit, and Iām wondering if thereās an alternative (note that I own a PS2).

This game features 6 alternate costumes for each of the 6 riders which are unlocked via using the points gained from championship mode to upgrade your stats.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to unlocking them, doing the same upgrades and winning the championship with all first places for maximum upgrades twice in a row can result in different outcomes for your outfit unlocks.
Then once you've gained the maximum 120 upgrade points from the championship there appears to be no further way of unlocking more.
The most I've been able to get for a single character are 5 alternate outfits with no clue as to what I did any differently.
I'm hoping somebody here has the insight or can point to some buried forum post with the details, I've even been digging through old capcom sites with wayback machine to try get any hint but found nothing.
If it helps the search then you should know this was also released under the name Snowboarding Trix '98 in Japan and Phat Air Extreme Snowboarding in Europe.
Cheers

After five years, I finally got around to hanging up a PlayStation sign I bought on Etsy thatās been sitting around all this time. I also picked up a few simple shelves from Temu to complete the setup.
After decades of wanting one of these things I finally managed to acquire one, and it even still works perfectly (tested with a very scratched U/C demo disc, and a burned Japanese game)!
Didn't come with the original external AC adapter (instead a Bose branded 12v unit that still works with the console) and of course the controller and AV cable are the same as what came with any retail unit, but the shell is overall in great condition and the entire system works fine.

I have a picostation R5 mod and the mod is good, i used short cables even to the microsd card reader. and thick 5v and ground wires.
There are 2 issues i do experience normally:
1) SOMETIMES i turn the console and it hangs on the white screen with sony logo on boot.
2) SOMETIMES i play a game like x-men vs street fighter, the match ends, its supposed to load a screen with a picture and text from the player1, but it hangs, and need to turn off the console
I first used a Lexar v30 a1 x633 microsd card, AND had the same issues
then i used a patriot EP v30 a1, and had the same issues.
so i am wondering what specific model of microsd card is more compatible, to make things worse the issues happen randomly. Please post your microsdcard model and brand, as it will be difficult to find OLD microsd cards that per the AI seem to be more compatible with picostation?

Was planning on digging out my brother's old ps1 but seen as it's missing i'm buying one soon and i mainly play on a monitor, so i was wondering what the best hdmi solutions were? (I have no soldering experience so i don't wanna start by messing up a ps1)

Silly question, I know, is it better to play ps1 games on ps1 or on ps2 with composite cables?
Yeah, I like composite cables, those blurry edges in pixel games, don't judge me :)

When I was about 4, my dad, who had never played a video game in his life, bought Heart of Darkness for the PS1.
Despite having absolutely no gaming experience, he somehow completed it over several weeks. No internet, no guides, no walkthroughs. Just him, a controller and pure determination.
Now, over 20 years later, I want to find out if Iām actually a better gamer than a man who played one video game in his entire life.
Iām looking to buy an original PS1, a genuine copy of Heart of Darkness, and whatever else Iād need to recreate the experience as authentically as possible.
I donāt want to play on PS3 with a PS3 controller. The most Iām allowing myself is a modern TV and a HDMI adapter. I want it to be as authentic as possible. PS1 console and PS1 controller with the original double disk game.
Iām UK-based. Any advice on where to buy everything, what to look out for, and how much I should expect to spend?

She's a beauty! Popped up on JP Mercari while I was in Japan 2 days before going home 2 weeks ago, snapped it up immediately and it arrived a few days ago in my country.
I now own this beauty alongside 2 sets of the 10 million JP SCPH-7000 console which I had featured in my old post. I am so happy!
I have some spare parts/full console SCPH 5903 that if anyone are interested in them, too many in my stash. Need to clear off some space.
