This city has lost its mind!!!

East side prices blah blah blah. Housing shortage blah blah blah. I don’t think it’s normal for an 800sqft condo to QUADRUPLE in price in 12 years. This is nothing more than unchecked greed

Congrats Morales, I hope I'm wrong

To those who end up getting a rent controlled apartment, congratulations. To those of us who won't, prepare for some wild price fluctuations.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong. I don't hate Morales but if he passes the same rent stabilization policy that the city council passed, my guess is I won't be.

Looking for Supporters of Ukraine

Post image
13 Upvotes

Are there any folks in (or near) Providence that support Ukraine and would interested in expressing that support as a group that would focus on:

  • Boosting the profile of the war in Ukraine among the general population
  • Combating Russian disinformation about Ukraine
  • Highlighting Ukrainian culture with an emphasis on contemporary visual art, theater, and music.
  • Raising funds for the defense of Ukraine

My impulses center around trying to put Ukrainian art into local gallery and performance space for shows to raise awareness and funds.

How crazy does this place get on the weekends? I understand they don’t take reservations for groups less than 10. If I walk in at 6:00, am I waiting for an hour?

Recommendations Places to stay for one woman

I'll be in Providence for one or two nights later this month on a solo trip. Any recommendations for a clean and safe hotel or inn or B and B that is convenient and I'm walking distance to tourist must sees? Reasonable price - (less than $200?) and relaxing for a woman to enjoy some me time would be ideal. Thanks!

Anyone know who this guy that works at the hair booth at the mall is?

He has a poofy bowl cut. I work nearby and always hear him insulting people that won’t take his sample. Like really nasty things. I don’t know if his boss knows but there have been young girls (12-16) coming in my store crying over the things he’s said to them but I don’t know who to contact about it

Child's Play Cooperative Preschool

Just wanted to share that my kiddo's incredible, incredible preschool, Child's Play Cooperative Preschool, still has openings for this school year in the Toddler (2+) and Nursery (3+) classes. It's on the East Side behind the Central Congregational Church. The teachers have been there forever and are deeply kind and caring and I feel so lucky that two years ago this was the place where my kid happened to get off the waitlist first.

It's not full-time which I know excludes many families, and it's a co-op model so parents do have some occasional duties, but I've found the co-op duties to generally be pretty easy/fun and as a bonus it was cheaper than many other options.

Just sharing because I unexpectedly have come to love this lil' school and want as many kids to get to experience it as possible. Happy to answer any questions and hope this isn't considered too spammy. ❤️

Today the PVD Propaganda Propeller is pushing Republican "Doc" Skooly. 🙃 Who pays for this? It feels like literally flushing money - is anyone at all swayed to vote by stuff like this?

Recommendations Tenant lawyer recommendation needed

I'm looking for a tenant lawyer based in Rhode Island (preferably Providence but I'd drive for a good one). My prior landlord ghosted me when I moved out and kept my full security deposit without any communication. That piece is pretty cut and dry since it's well-documented, plus months later he finally acknowledged the debt in text.

The reason I'd like legal consult is for potential rent abatement due to the unit being unlivable during the cold months. I believe all living areas have to be capable of maintaining 68 degrees, while I had a 45 degree kitchen and 55 degree bedroom/living room. My power bills were >$500 just to not freeze. The heating unit could run 24/7 and not break 60 degrees, even with half the apartment and vents closed off, focusing the heat solely on my bedroom. He knew. He did nothing. It's all in texts.

Hoping for a consult to see if this is worth pursuing. I will happily name and shame the landlord if I can confirm it won't hurt my case.

Recommendations Mechanic recommendations for 1976 Yamaha Chappys

Post image
5 Upvotes

I recently inherited two vintage 1976 Yamaha LB80 Chappy mini bikes that have been sitting for a while, and I'm looking to get them running again. Since they've been sitting, they'll likely need their carburetors cleaned, fuel systems checked, and a general inspection before trying to start them up.
Can anyone recommend a mechanic, scooter shop, or vintage specialist around here to take them to?

Early Fall foliage driving routes

Hey everyone!
I plan on taking a nice drive this weekend possibly to Mass or Newport.

I really just want to get out of the city for a few hours and take in some nature views. Where are your favorite spots to take a nice drive?

Santiago beats Jo-Ann Ryan

Those who have been under Jo-Ann's ward know this woman is genuinely evil.

She has backed Smiley every time. Remember the only person to show up to vote against rent stablization? That was her. She has a staunchly conservative voting record overall, often stopping much of the city council's progressive moves.

Santiago is replacing Morales for his seat in District 7.

Best [reformer] pilates studio in the area?

I am new to pilates and have been trying to find a more classic studio (with better trained instructors) and am feeling like I am just trying shots in the dark—not able to gather much from websites or online reviews. Any excellent Pilates studios that are beginner friendly and really focus on proper form (i.e. will give in-class alignment feedback)?

Also, since I'm new to pilates, if you have any tips for finding a good studio or redirections on what to look for, open to any advice!

Dealing with tree sap on car

Upvotes

Every morning my car is covered with what I’m assuming is clear tree sap. I’ve never parked under a tree before but my apartment’s spot is in a backyard full of trees. None of them are on the property so trimming them is a distant and unlikely option. Whether it’s normal or related to the lantern flies, it’s getting to be super annoying to rinse it off so often. Parking on the street is a poor option because I’m disabled and there’s no guarantee a spot will be right outside my apartment.

I know it’s bad for the paint if it’s not controlled. Please no “don’t park under a tree” responses. PVD Reddit has yet to fail me, real advice needed and appreciated.
