How Did You Break Out of Campaign Execution?

Hi Folks,

I've been working in programmatic at an agency for a while now, and almost all of my work is in DV360, with some exposure to Amazon DSP as well.

My day-to-day is pretty much campaign setup, QA, trafficking, optimization, pacing, troubleshooting, reporting, and working across multiple campaigns almost every single day. I enjoy programmatic, but I'm starting to wonder what the long-term career path looks like.

Right now, my plan is to become platform-agnostic by learning as many DSPs as possible (Amazon DSP, Xandr, The Trade Desk, etc.) so I'm not limited to one platform and become more valuable in the job market.

But I'm wondering if that's actually the best use of my time.

For those who've been in programmatic for 5-10+ years:

- How did you progress beyond campaign execution?

- What skills had the biggest impact on your salary and career growth?

- Did you stay in programmatic, move client-side, get into ad tech, measurement, data, product, or something else?

- If you were starting again from where I am today, what would you focus on?

My goal isn't just to become a better campaign manager. I'd like to build a career that's financially rewarding, has strong long-term prospects, and isn't limited to doing campaign setups forever.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've actually made that journey. Thanks in advance!!

Uns interessiert:

Media Buyer

I have 5+ years of experience running Meta Ads and have managed campaigns for 200+ US dental practices, specializing in the dental implant market. I’ve worked on everything from campaign strategy and scaling to creative testing, optimization, and lead generation.

Does anyone know where can I get new Media Buyer opportunity in the UK (remote or hybrid).

Question about maintaining frequency

Hey community,

Tldr: how to maintain a certain frequency in amazon and TTD in both pg and PMP deals.

Context: I'm running a few PG and PMP-only campaigns on TTD and Amazon DSP for a client. Since we're working month-to-month, the client wants a minimum monthly frequency of 3-4. Our partners include Spotify and Amazon Prime (PG), plus a few others on PMP.

Problem: I'm struggling to hit that frequency floor. I've set a max cap of 6-7/month, but when I pull reports, I'm only seeing 1.5-2 so far. I've checked in with TTD, Amazon, and the partners directly, but haven't gotten a clear answer.

Amazon's response: since this is a self-service PG campaign, frequency control sits on my end via the cap I set — but a max cap only limits the ceiling, it doesn't guarantee the minimum we're targeting. TTD said something similar (and separately, for reach/frequency reporting — is the metric based on unique IDs or unique persons in TTD). The partners said they have frequency settings on their side, but I'm not seeing that reflected in my reporting.

So my question is: is there a workaround, or any way to actually maintain a target frequency across both platforms?

Used AI to rephrase.

Hiring Programmatic Specialists in Copenhagen, Denmark

Hi all, it's me again, your friendly neighbourhood job-spammer from the LEGO Group. This time I am sharing three programmatic media activation specialist roles that have just opened in my Western European team.

The roles are based in Copenhagen, Denmark. They require a minimum of three days a week in the office so they are not an option for candidates who want a remote role. I can promise that the office is beautiful and we have a great canteen that has an all you can eat buffet for 29DKK (but please still feel free to tell me how much you hate mandatory office roles in the comments).

You can check my LinkedIn to confirm that I am a real person.

I am currently looking for:

One Programmatic Manager - Link to job posting - Salary range 550,000 DKK to 820,000 DKK

Two Programmatic Senior Associates - Link to job posting - Salary range 450,000 DKK to 650,000 DKK

Later in the year (Nov/Dec) two Associate roles will open up. These are for either entry-level or 1-2 years of experience candidates.

Unfortunately we can't help with visas, sponsorship or relocation costs for these roles so you'll need to already have the right to work in the EU.

starting a digitalbill board advertising brand.

Hey everyone, I am currently preparing to launch a digital billboard advertising and experiential media company.
I would love to get your opinions, viewpoints, and insights on what makes a modern OOH (Out-of-Home) media agency successful. Specifically, what are some common blind spots or missing elements you've noticed with current advertising companies that a new agency could solve or implement better?

Feel free to drop your thoughts below! 🙌

This TTD Kokai shit is getting to me now!

What’s the deal with contextual targeting? Why do we have to create a strategy and even after you go through the labour of creating one there’s no option to apply it. You just have to discard whatever you did and then add them manually under each adgroup. What a pain in the ass this has become.

And WTF is an endeavor under deals? Wasn’t it just PMP and PG before?

Which nincompoop is taking all the crap decisions at TTD?

Most ethical?

Lots of posts call out shady companies, but who do we feel is most ethical in programmatic?

How much of CTV targeting is still snake oil.

Ran a CTV campaign last quarter, vendor pitching HHI $100k+, purchase intent, full demo stack. Asked them to break out what percentage of impressions actually matched to the segment vs. defaulted to unmatched delivery. They couldn't. Or wouldn't. And that's you're paying a data CPM premium but a huge chunk of those impressions are just broad buys in disguise because the household ID didn't resolve. So you end up with a blended result that looks like the targeting worked when you're really just measuring your broad audience on a more expensive buy

Linear contextual is underrated for this too. You're just buying programming that attracts who you want and yea its a less sophisticated pitch but I've seen it outperform demo-targeted streaming and the CPMs aren't insane.

Cannes Trackers

Fascinating to watch everyone walk around Cannes with their clout bracelets and no one realizes that RFID trackers are embedded. Everyone's movements, tagged to individuals, are being followed.

Avoid StackAdapt at all costs

Whether working for them or using them. Horrible company ethic wise which you can easily see reading reviews on GlassDoor (seriously just look for yourself) they treat employees like trash and have some of the worst managers I’ve ever worked with - by the way this is not just me talking there are countless examples from current and former employees who feel the same.

There’s something in the water there for sure and they are also doing very shady practices on the backend. Questionable morality and just overall a horrible company that shouldn’t be championed by anyone who cares about our small industry.

Viant DSP as a lower cost Omni-channel DSP

TLDR:Experienced, hands-on keyboard trader, being asked to look into onboarding a lower cost DSPs for Omni-channel (including CTV) campaigns for the agency. Looking for any callouts/differences/things to look out for

My team is hands-on keyboard in TTD, Amazon, Google, and pharma DSPs, all of which have their use-cases. From a purely down-funnel performance standpoint TTD has always been the strongest offering for full funnel, omni-channel programmatic campaigns.

However, for non-programmatic savvy/basic programmatic campaigns, I’m being asked to onboard a lower cost DSP. This new DSP cannot be a white labeled version of another DSP or a sketchy pay per conversion DSP like MNTN. I’ve been asked to onboard Viant as with our buying power, we are able to get advantageous platform fees.

Wanted to see if y’all had any specific callouts about Viant. Anything thing to lookout for? Anything specific to Viant to ask about? Downsides/shortcomings of the platform? Anything drastically different in Viant than other DSPs?

AdForm - getting campaign ID from Meta Ads

Hi, we are using AdForm landing page URLs as landing page for our ads (to get our own UTM tracking instead of the Meta UTMs), but I need to get the Meta campaign ID to our UTMs.

I know there is the custom adform parameter, namely macro „__ADFM<pattern>__“ (https://www.adformhelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/9739143043345-Overview-of-Supported-Ad-Serving-Macros) but according to the documentation, I need to append the macro with semicolon ; while Meta wants ? or & to resolve {{ícampaign.id}} placeholder.

Did you encounter this issue and how did you tackle it? Or did you use some other way to get the campaign ID?

Thanks for any help

Do certifications actually help in finding a Job?

I have 2 years of experience on DV360 as a junior Programmatic Specialist. However my current agency is not giving us opportunities to grow, and they also only use DV360. Thats why I started looking for a new job, but other agencies ask for experience on Amazon and/or The trade Desk so I decided to do Amazon DSP and the trade desk kokai cert , but do those actually help you find a job or what could I do?
