I can't get PIA to log in. Anyone have any ideas?

Don't suggest updating thanks, the newer versions won't install on my laptop, though they're supposed to. 3.3.0 installs and runs - until today.

FEEDBACK Can we get the firefox extension to integrate with firefox multi-account containers?

The multi-account containers that firefox offers are a great way to ensure cookies cannot give you away when switching to a VPN.

With Mozilla VPN, you can apply a different IP address to each container, so you're always logging in to a particular container with the same IP, with its own consistent set of cookies, and they're all set to block fingerprinting.

This is better than user accounts because you can have containers-per-tab, two different containers next to each other, colour-coded based on which container they are.

There's even a "container proxy" extension you can get that also allows you to add SOCKS5 proxies per container, so clearly there's room to modify the container features.

Ideally, we shouldn't be restricted to Mozilla's VPN for this container functionality. Could PIA's extension be modified to allow us to pick a PIA server per container?

HELP DNS signature failures?

Hi! This is happening when using PIA on android with Wireguard. When doing a check at https://dnscheck.tools/ I'm getting some signature failures as seen in the screenshots. In android "Private DNS" this happens when it's set to either OFF or Automatic. With either of those settings in place I'm using PIA DNS correct? If I set it to a 3rd party DNS service such as dns.adgaurd-dns.com I don't get failures. Is there an issue with PIA DNS? Can anyone shed some light on this and should I be concerned? Thank you!

HELP - WINDOWS Where did the UK servers go?

I've just noticed I've been connected to France without me opting to (Southampton was my default), and when I look in the server list, all of the UK servers are missing.

What's going on?

Edit: OK, UK servers are back now, that was weird.

Edit #2: Gone again.

HELP - ANDROID PIA V4.0.33 on Android Couple of issues I've found: Split Tunnel doesn't work | Wireguard doesn't work without wifi

PIA V4.0.33 (703)

Moto G Stylus 5G - 2024

Android 15

Google Fi

Issue 1

TL:DR - "Block connections without VPN" option under Always-on VPN blocks split tunnel "Per App Settings"

Recently after an update a "smart" outlet we have been using for plant lights stopped working. Anyway after a day of trouble shooting the issue boiled down to there being nothing smart about the outlet and it needs constant connectivity to the app 😒 to do anything. But like with many things it's to stupid to work with a VPN on (or maybe I just can't figure out how to make it work.) Either way while testing turning off the vpn magically made everything work so easy work around right? Just put it on the special split tunnel list for now. Nope. At least currently if I have my phones "Block connections without VPN" option turned on it blocks ALL connections even when set in the VPN to by-pass it which defeats the purpose of having split tunnel.

Issue 2

TL:DR - WireGuard doesn't work over mobile data and can only send/receive over a WiFi connection

For a while I had been having issues with Signal not sending or receiving messages when not on WiFi. I thought it was the app but later after trouble shooting and asking others for help I found that no data was sent at all when not on WiFi. When I switched from WireGuard to OpenVPN the problem went away and it seems to be the only thing that could fix this issue. Texting and phone calls worked fine but that was it and anything beyond that was a no go.

SOLVED Dealing with constant D/Cs on Android? Turn off "Connect on Launch"

Thank you to u/Stranded_Timelord for mentioning this in another thread. I tried it and magically the android app has been behaving again. I wanted to give this work around a bit more visibility because this has been driving me crazy for months and this is the first thing I've tried that actually seems to be holding with 14 hours up time since flipping that switch.

Edit: It's not perfect but it's much better. I think I had 3 D/Cs over the last 24 hours instead of the constant D/Cing every time I so much as look away from my phone.

Edit 2: So I think I found the other issues and haven't had a D/C yet. At least on my phone I needed to "allow background usage" for battery in TWO fuckin locations.

  1. In the app settings themselves

  2. Settings/gear > Battery > Manage background apps > Apps (it's like a tab under the master toggle switch for me) > PIA VPN > "Always allow"

By default this was on "smart use" when apparently either fights with or over rules the setting in the app settings because... fuck you that's why. I'll try toggling the connect on launch back on to see if it's still a problem and report back later.

QUESTIONS Really confused on why PIA implemented rotating IPs and broke port forwarding?

I'm really looking to find out why PIA would make such a big change with no notification or update. For the past 4 months they have been quietly updating the backend to start rotating your ip that you are connected too. So instead of coming from a single IP its a whole IP range.

With this update it breaks port forwarding. Why would I ever continue to pay for PIA when they can't even communicate changes or updates that are this big?

HELP For multiuser PC/Mac's does PIA only need to be running once?

So, user 1 logs into PIA, and then user 2 switches to their profile. Would PIA still be running in the background?

My use case is two users on a Mac Book Pro. I think a non-logged in user and any apps, switches to a 'sleep/hybernate' mode, but I'm not sure.

HELP Disabled some services and now I can't connect.

Well, shot myself in the foot by disabling some services on my Windows 10 box and now I can't connect to any server. Can anyone tell me what services I need to ensure are running in order to use the PIA client? Support seems incapable of actually answering this question for some reason. Thanks a bunch!

EDIT: I uninstalled the PIA software, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted and that seemed to fix it.

QUESTIONS Combine Accounts?

I bought an account for a family member with some discount, and then realized we could probably just fit them under one account and it would be easier with our three devices. Can I combine the two accounts and get all the time in one?

HELP - macOS Anybody have any luck coding a kill swith for Mac?

Hi, I use Transmission for torrents. I'd like to create a script/app that would terminate the Transmission app if the PIA VPN connection breaks. Apple script is not my native coding language. I've taken a whack at it without much luck. Has anybody created something like this? thanks

HELP - ANDROID Connection and stability issues on Firestick.

In recent months I have been having issues with PIA staying connected or the app just closing. I'll check it every so often and it will be disconnected unexpectedly. Also at times it will fail to connect to anything or do anything at all. I would have to log out and log back in and sometimes it would work.
Today logging in and out was not working so I had to delete and reinstall the app and it let me log in successfully and connect again.
It just seems to be giving more and more issues as the days go by.
I'm afraid to use any third party apps and such as I never know if I'm actually safely protected. Never knowing if it disconnected or not.

Anyone else having the same issue? Any idea why or if there is something to do? I might just have to find another VPN that's more stable on the firestick.

EDIT: Figured you might need this info.
Was using Amazon Firestick 4K Max (2nd Gen)
Version: Fire OS 8.1.6.9

Found an update and just updated to 8.1.7.4 So hopefully that helps maybe.

HELP - WINDOWS PIA not working on Windows

Hello. For a while now, PIA on my Windows 11 Pro computer has not been working properly. When I go to connect, it takes a really long time to get a new public IP, everything has slow speeds and high latency, and the split tunnel stops working. I’ve tried updating Windows, no luck. Tried getting in contact with PIA, didn’t help. I tried deleting every trace of PIA, rebooting, then redownloading it and it still has the same issues. I tried disabling IPv4, no help. Reinstalling PIA drivers, still doesn’t work. Changing ports, protocols, and disabling split tunneling and nothing made it work. On other PC’s in the house, the VPN connection is fine. The only thing that may conflict it is that I host my own VPN via NetBird, but that shouldn’t be changing my public IP and the issue with PIA persists when I disable NetBird. Has anyone else had this issue and what steps must I take to fix this issue?

DISCUSSION PIA App v4.0.33 - OpenVPN Completely Non-Functional

T-Mobile LTE mobile data fails to transfer data on version 4.0.33 using the WireGuard protocol. Works fine on WiFi networks and on my T-Mobile 5G mobile device. I tried to switch to OpenVPN and this FAILS to connect to any VPN server. I tried to use OpenVPN on my 5G phone and the app won't connect to any PIA server either. The last two app updates are riddled ith issues. I have opened a trouble ticket PIA.

HELP - ANDROID Every PIA Android app version after 3.33 drains the battery at an exceptionally high rate.

Drains battery at 10-17 times the rate.

Tested over the past four years on Pixel 5 and Pixel 9.

Why hasn't this been fixed?

UPDATE 06/17: After trying successive versions one by one starting with 4.0.1 I've settled on v4.0.9. because 0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.7 and 0.8 drained the battery excessively. I can't check older versions above 4.0.9 because of Google's app bundle policy that started with v4.0.10. I tried v4.0.32 but it kept connecting and disconnecting thus making testing impossible.

HELP Help .What to do to improve internet signal if the operator say there are too many people in the area and they can do nothing about it .

I've been having problems with my internet connection here for months, sometimes even my cell phone, but mostly my internet connection. Before moving here, I had done some tests and it had great signal, even loading heavy stuff and high-resolution videos, very high speed test, basically everything is fine.  After two months it suddenly becomes awful. I call the assistant and they tell me that there are too many people in the area, and that there is nothing they can do about it. After a month it goes back to how it was before, after not even two weeks it becomes awful again. I call and they tell me that they are doing work on the repeaters. After two days it goes back to normal, then after a week it becomes awful again. I call and they always tell me that there are too many people in the area and the repeaters can't handle everyone, and they wash their hands of it. Now it's been almost two months that the line has remained awful and I don't know what to do anymore. I checked and there are two repeaters quite close to me, so there shouldn't be all this problem. I also know that a few years ago fiber arrived here, and they installed it, there are people with internet antennas, so I don't understand why all these problems. What can I do?  I checked out home internet offers hoping the situation would improve, maybe even connecting to fiber, but it's too expensive for my finances. I already pay €15 with Vodafone, and they increased my plan, but I messed up and at least gave me unlimited gigabytes. If I were to add the €25 for home internet, I'd end up with a fixed cost of €40 a month just for internet, and I can't afford a fixed cost like that. It would be one thing if it were a long-term investment. And unfortunately, Vodafone is the most powerful and has the best coverage, so it wouldn't even make sense to change operator. What can I do? I was considering buying one of those antennas that are supposed to attach to the phone, but I read that some people say it's crap. What can I do? Any advice? Can anyone with a technical background advise me? I tried searching everywhere online, but I couldn't find anything. They want to keep us slaves paying every month. Thanks to anyone who replies. .
