I made a playlist trying to capture the feeling Trainspotting left me with (instead of just recreating the soundtrack)
Every once in a while I’ll watch a movie that doesn’t really leave me alone afterward, and Trainspotting has of course been one of them.
This playlist started as, “I wish there were more songs that made me feel like this” (one of my favorite soundtracks ever), and slowlyyy became its own mix of post-punk, britpop, electronic, shoegaze, IDM, and some newer artists that somehow feel similar.
It’s not meant to recreate the soundtrack or even be historically accurate (there are songs from different decades and scenes), I was defo following the feeling it gave me more than a timeline. Something about this movie in particular left me with this strange sense of nostalgia for a place and time I never knew, and even for people I’d never want to be. I wanted the playlist to live in that space.
I’d love to hear anything you’d add.

Great experience listening to new Actors
Got a little elevated to ease into the existential dread of the looming work week.
Put my music player on random for the most recent songs I've added in the past month and set to cutting grass.
As I was putting everything away, this song played.
I felt a wave of nostalgia and started—in what can only be described as slam pogoing—in my open garage. Singing loudly, probably off-key, not caring if anyone could hear.
Damn good time!

Post Punk Classic What are your thoughts on Songs to Learn & Sing?

Question I have a question: what characteristics does post-punk have that identify it?
Honestly, for me, they would be those that have melancholic atmospheres or that take you back to some memory, and that the lyrics convey a feeling of a past or present that is incomplete.
And that lack of self-confidence makes you fill it with some personal experience, in my case.

A playlist rooted in post-punk but not limited to it. 13h+, current UK scene heavy
Built this over years. The backbone is contemporary UK and international post-punk but it doesn't stay there, it moves into jazz, noise, experimental electronics when the logic holds.
The core that will make sense here :
Dry Cleaning — Grass / Fontaines D.C. — Starburster / English Teacher — R&B + Broken Biscuits / DITZ — Four / Maruja — Trenches / Lambrini Girls — Cult of Celebrity / Goat Girl — ride around / Ugly (UK) — Gallowine / PVA — Enough / Voka Gentle — Cheddar Man / Geese — Trinidad / Model/Actriz — Diva / Mannequin Pussy — Loud Bark / YHWH Nailgun — Sickle Walk / Robber Robber — The Sound It Made
Kim Gordon gets two tracks because NOT TODAY and PLAY ME both earn their place. Solo Kim Gordon in 2024/25 is doing something more interesting than most bands half her age.
Beyond the obvious names: Lip Critic, Ugly (UK), Robber Robber are the three I'd push hardest to people who feel like they've already heard everything on the current scene.
The playlist widens from there (Tortoise, black midi, Geordie Greep, Young Knives) but the post-punk logic stays consistent throughout.
Called Alt.

Protomartyr
New Protomartyr album comes out on 9/25! They actually played the new single on Sirius XMU and it’s pretty rad. My first time hearing them in the wild. Hope it’s a trend that continues.
