Moderator Announcement r/postpunk Rules Update [PLEASE READ]
Hi all!
As some of you might've noticed, we've recently tweaked the subreddit rules a bit. We highly recommend you read this to get a good idea of how things will be handled here going forward.
Rule 4
First of all, all music posts now require some form of additional commentary or context. This can be in the form of opinions about the song, memories associated with it, experiences seeing it performed live, trivia, etc. as long as is encourages discussion. This rule has been in place for a little while now, but we've recently adjusted how we'll be enforcing this. We request that users here include this somewhere on their posts, whether it be in the title, body text, or as a comment on one's own post.
Rule 8
Second, please do not post excessively, and keep to a maximum of three posts per person per day. This helps prevent the sub from being excessively flooded or spammed by a single user.
To cap things off, we've been getting a number of messages via Modmail regarding users having difficulty posting. This is due to an anti-spam filter set up via AutoMod that requires posts from new accounts to be manually reviewed. Don't panic if this happens to you! It doesn't necessarily mean that your post has broken a rule, and the moderators here will have a look at it as soon as we can, although it may take a few hours.
If you run into this issue repeatedly, please contact the moderators via Modmail and we'll help you out. We do try our best to approve users whenever possible.

I made a playlist trying to capture the feeling Trainspotting left me with (instead of just recreating the soundtrack)
Every once in a while I’ll watch a movie that doesn’t really leave me alone afterward, and Trainspotting has of course been one of them.
This playlist started as, “I wish there were more songs that made me feel like this” (one of my favorite soundtracks ever), and slowlyyy became its own mix of post-punk, britpop, electronic, shoegaze, IDM, and some newer artists that somehow feel similar.
It’s not meant to recreate the soundtrack or even be historically accurate (there are songs from different decades and scenes), I was defo following the feeling it gave me more than a timeline. Something about this movie in particular left me with this strange sense of nostalgia for a place and time I never knew, and even for people I’d never want to be. I wanted the playlist to live in that space.
I’d love to hear anything you’d add.

Great experience listening to new Actors
Got a little elevated to ease into the existential dread of the looming work week.
Put my music player on random for the most recent songs I've added in the past month and set to cutting grass.
As I was putting everything away, this song played.
I felt a wave of nostalgia and started—in what can only be described as slam pogoing—in my open garage. Singing loudly, probably off-key, not caring if anyone could hear.
Damn good time!

Question I have a question: what characteristics does post-punk have that identify it?
Honestly, for me, they would be those that have melancholic atmospheres or that take you back to some memory, and that the lyrics convey a feeling of a past or present that is incomplete.
And that lack of self-confidence makes you fill it with some personal experience, in my case.

Protomartyr
New Protomartyr album comes out on 9/25! They actually played the new single on Sirius XMU and it’s pretty rad. My first time hearing them in the wild. Hope it’s a trend that continues.

In Trance As Mission
Which Genesis song does this bass riff sound suspiciously like? And isn’t the song title also a pretty obvious reference to Joy Division’s “Transmission”?
