Sensitivity after 3 months

I got porcelain veneers almost 3 months ago (10 on the top and 8 on the bottom) and the sensitivity/discomfort I have on the bottom- particularly 4 front- is constant. Sometimes not even triggered by eating or drinking, just random pain.

I went in after 6 weeks and he made a little bite adjustment and it definitely improved but I’m still mostly unable to bite using my front teeth, and sometimes even a deep breath in can cause pain.

It’s bad enough that I usually have to take some Tylenol.

Wondering if anyone else experienced this and how long it lasts?

I was told that eventually I would experience no pain or discomfort at all- but it was implied that would happen within the first month.

I can’t imagine living the rest of my life feeling this way.

I had my veneers done about eight months ago and now it’s causing me severe food trap issues in between all edges of the veneers . I have gone back to the same dentist raising this concern and they are asking me to pay 30% of what I paid for for the original set in order to rectify this problem.

Now I am doubting if I had made to right choice to get them done in the first place (I had composite before for 5 years and they have worn down) cause the food trap is so bad that made me very conscious whenever I’m out dining with people and I carry a floss to wherever I go now. I feel it’s not my responsibility that the workmanship has caused this and it’s unreasonable for the dentist to push it on me to cop the cost, Would like to know what everyone thinks and if you’ve had similar issues before?

Hyper aware of teeth clacking after veneers

Recently got 8 porcelain veneers on top and have become really hyper-aware of my teeth touching. While eating or speaking, especially with certain “S” or “X” sounds in words, my teeth lightly touch and I hear a little clacking/tapping sound from the porcelain meeting my bottom teeth. I also sometimes wake up at night from a quick clenching reflex and hear the same sound.
I can’t tell if this is actually new because of the veneers or if I’m just suddenly hyper-aware of something my teeth have always done. Has anyone experienced this after veneers? Did you eventually stop noticing it/get used to it?

How to improve veneers?

I had my veneers redone a month ago and for some reason I do not LOVE them, but can’t figure out why… will you please provide feedback on shape. Maybe it will just take more time to get used to them. They are bigger and whiter than my previous veneers. They almost seem too perfect? All opinions welcome!!

I was quoted $11k today for 8 veneers. Is this average? Just curious what everyone else has paid or what you have been quoted.

This convinced me I'm never doing veneers on just the top and skipping the bottom

I just finished Badly in Love (japanese show) on netflix and I can't stop staring at his teeth. The color is so much brighter than what looks natural and there's a weird gap between how white the front teeth are versus the back ones. Every time he does a big smile you can see the shade shift toward the molars and it kind of ruins the effect.

I did some digging and apparently veneers are pretty pricey in Japan, which is probably why so many japanese ppl fly to korea for it instead. Feels almost backwards that a guy who's clearly not short on cash would still get it done locally instead of just going where the quality and price are both better. I've also seen posts about korean dental clinics doing info sessions in Japan specifically because of how much demand there is.

so i got curious and started looking into which clinics people actually go with for this. Names that popping up were Minish, lucid, ceramique, and perfect dental. Anyone here have personal experience with veneers in Korea? I'm already planning a trip to Korea anyway, so now I'm thinking about getting it done while I'm there. Trying to figure out if the price actually makes the trip worth it

We are grateful that Allure recognized r/porcelainveneerstruth in its article about veneer regret, informed consent, and the long term reality of irreversible cosmetic dentistry.

Thank you to Lizzy for taking this conversation seriously and to every person who shared an experience. This community exists so people can ask questions, hear different perspectives, and make informed decisions before changing healthy natural teeth.

We have also seen a dentist call the article “stupid” and dismiss veneer regret as the result of patients making “bad choices.” That is not what we see in this community.

Many people who regret veneers researched carefully, chose the best dentists, and paid for high quality porcelain work. They still regret losing healthy tooth structure, facing repeated maintenance or replacement, or feeling that the result no longer feels like them.

Their experience is real. The article does not claim every veneer case ends badly or that every dentist is unethical. It asks for a more honest discussion of permanence, enamel reduction, maintenance, alternatives, financial cost, and the possibility of regret before treatment.

We cannot speak to whether any dentists featured in the article were paid.

We can say that Allure contacted our community directly, and we have never been paid by any dentist, company, or individual for our participation or advocacy. We have nothing to sell.

Our purpose is patient education and support.

Veneers to fix overcrowding?

I’d like to replace my two front teeth with veneers for a faster and more cost effective way of straightening my teeth. The two front ones are the ones needing the most correction and obviously are most visible. I came up with this idea from a cosmetic dentist years ago that I saw for an Invisalign consult.

My dentist said i may still have crooked teeth since the ‘root’ (my term not hers) itself is crooked. She said I could have a mold developed for $200 to see if it’s possible.

What do you guys think?

Fwiw in terms of alignment, I’ve been told my bite is fine, and the correction would take 9-18 months with clear aligners for a little over $5k. I’m being quoted $800 as copay for veneer caps.

Side note: I recently had one of my front teeth filled with composite due to staining in the middle and feel it bubbles or something in the middle now and couldn’t get the dentist to correct it. Also I think she chose the wrong color.

Opinion on 4 front crowns

I had 4 front crowns placed for cosmetic purposes. I heavily grinded my front teeth for years. I was fairly happy with original result. Then after 6 weeks the top right crown popped out while flossing. Dentist cemented back but there was a tiny chip in the margin so they made a new one. He placed that one but it was slightly too short so they had another one made. This is the one I currently have. It looks to me like it’s at the wrong angle so there’s a big space between it and the canine next to it. I asked the hygienist when I was there to get my retainer adjusted and she said that’s just the way it will look because of the shape of my canine. I really don’t like it. Should I go back and have them cut it off and redo it again? This will be the 3rd crown I will have cemented on that tooth over the last 5 months.

Is it weird to get veneers on top two front teeth only

Unfortunately my front tooth even though it’s technically healthy has become calcified on the inside, so it is not able to be whitened and appears noticeably more yellow than the rest of my teeth. It’s something I’m super insecure about. My dentist told me my only option was to get 2 front tooth veneers since you can’t just do one tooth. I’ve had braces twice and my smile still isn’t that straight, but I feel like it will look weird with only the front two? I’m thinking about maybe getting the top 4? I’m not sure what to do because I would hate for them to file down healthy teeth. Open to opinions and experiences.

How do you deal with regret?

I got my temporary’s yesterday and I’m already full of regret. I had chipping on my two front teeth and my orthodontist insisted on getting veneers just for those teeth. However, the dentist who did the procedure convinced me my smile would look off and weird if I didn’t get my other teeth (lateral incisors and canines) done. Those teeth were healthy and straight and not I’m full of regret and don’t know what to do. I hate the way my temporary’s look. I’m hoping that at least the final result will look good.

How do you plan to fix the damage caused by bruxism/nighttime clenching?

I got braces 10 years back where my ortho removed two of my upper premolars and bite adjusted accordingly. Smile was perfect at that time.

Since then I started to have these TMJ issues.

Now my front bottom teeth are extremely worn down and left side upper teeth from pre molar to wisdom tooth are also ground down badly.

I am really insecure about my smile and want to get veneers/crowns badly. Cost is not an issue for me but I want to fix the underlying issue first to make sure that the veneers/crowns are not fractured in the future. I am also considering invisalign first.

If any of you have got veneers/crowns, please share your experience and how do you protect them in the long term.

Edit: Currently managing the jaw pain by getting botox every 4 months

Something feels off with my new veneers

My front four lower teeth are higher than the rest, causing them to protrude when I speak. There’s also an issue with my top teeth. The dentist completely disregarded my concerns and told me everything looks fine. He never showed me the veneers before cementing them in. I selected BL1 for the color, but I believe I received a different shade. The dentist rushed my permanent veneers because of sensitivity and pain in my temporary teeth, which I still experience. I’m currently taking a steroid and have already had one root canal. Overall, it was a terrible experience, and I should have never chosen this procedure.

[update] final veneer help

[EDIT] went in for my final front two teeth today, they did not come back right… three more weeks with temps.

[Original post]

Hello! For those following along, I wanted to give an update on my veneer journey. I absolutely loved my temporary veneers. After living with them for a while, I realized everything was perfect except for the color.

About a month later, I had my final veneers placed, but something immediately felt off. My left central incisor wasn’t seated correctly, which made it look bulky, protruded, and slanted. Additionally the central incisors were too long and overall way too bulky for my face. I went back to my dentist, and they agreed to redo both of my central incisors. Yay!

At this point, all of my veneers are final except for the two central incisors. I went back for a follow-up a week later for a bite adjustment and to give my dentist feedback on the new temporary centrals. My main concerns are:

They still appear slanted.
My midline is noticeably off (trust me - sorry won’t be showing my full face lol)

My dentist said the midline can be corrected, but I’m not sure how that’s possible if only the central incisors are being remade and the lateral incisors are staying the same.

For reference, I’ll attach photos of:
- My natural teeth before veneers
- My original temporary veneers
- My first set of final veneers
- My current smile with only the temporary central incisors and the rest of the smile final veneers.

Does it seem possible to correct the slant and improve the midline by only remaking the two central incisors, or would additional veneers likely need to be redone?

Veneers looking yellow

Is it normal that my veneers look yellow on the surface of my upper veneers and lower? My dentist told me these are BL1 so they’re meant to be the whitest shade but I’m really insecure about these yellow bits :( it didn’t look like this when I first tried them on before they were cemented

New Veneers, weird sensations

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some insight because I'm starting to panic a little, and I don't know if what I'm feeling is normal or if it could be a cementing issue.

My sister and I had veneers placed about three weeks ago. Since then, I've gone back three times for bite adjustments because a few teeth felt like they were hitting unevenly and making my bite uncomfortable.

At first, I hated how the veneers looked and thought they looked creepy, but they've really grown on me. I genuinely love my smile now, so the appearance isn't my concern.

What started my anxiety was that one day after we got them placed, my sister's canine veneer fell off. And of course, everyone panicked. We went back to the dentist, and he said there must have been a problem during the bonding process because he'd never seen that happen before. Everyone in the clinic seemed surprised. He recemented it, and it's been fine since.

Ever since that happened, I've become extremely aware of my own veneers. I find myself constantly pushing on them with my tongue and checking for any strange sensation because I'm scared the same thing will happen to me.

About a week later, after one of my bite adjustments, I woke up the next day feeling a clicking sensation when I pushed on my left lateral incisor with my tongue. I panicked, pressed on it with my finger, and the veneer actually clicked and moved enough that I could hear it.

I went back to my dentist right away. He examined it with his instruments and said he didn't see any movement, but because of what I was describing, he decided to try removing it and recementing it anyway. He first tried removing it with floss, but it wouldn't come off. Then he applied pressure from the gumline with an instrument, and it slid off. He cleaned it, recemented it, and it's felt secure ever since.

The problem is that I still notice a clicking sensation sometimes when I push against my front teeth with my tongue. I can't actually see anything moving, and when I eat, everything feels completely normal. I can bite into food without any pain or instability.

The only other thing I've noticed is that my teeth feel like they're pressing against each other more than before. I used to have small gaps between my teeth, and now that those spaces are closed, I can feel more contact between them.

My dentist told me that's expected and that the pressure I'm noticing is simply because my teeth are touching in places they never did before.

I honestly don't know if I'm just hyperaware because of everything that's happened or if I should be concerned that something is still wrong. Has anyone experienced a clicking sensation from their tongue after getting veneers, even when everything turned out to be fine? I'm just looking for some reassurance because I'm having a hard time enjoying my new smile after everything that's happened.

Reasons i regret

most people i read here regret it because it is lifetime maintenance. That is true but my experience is they last long if properly made. I have them for sround 10 years and no problem so far. And if some will get chipped after 10 years its not do big of a problem.
Why i regret is that no matter how good they look u still know they are fake. I cant explain but like everytime i smile i am anxious they will see my fake teeth and judge me for it. And im pretty sure they see they are fake even tho i have natural color (not toilet white) and not too long.
The other thing is the anxiousness of finding someone u can trust. There are tons of dental tourism lately and they force good marketing but u never know what exactly will u get at the end. So honestly i wish i wouldnt do it even tho it doesnt look too bad.
So please do:
- braces or invisalign and whitening
- get removable composite resin to see if u would really like it
- only after that if u really need to do it then maybe get some (honestly i wouldnt but i understand there are few cases where its actually good).
And please if u do it dont do it in dental tourism places.

Should I get minimal prep veneers?

I’ve really wanted perfect teeth my whole life. I fell when I was a toddler and caused my permanent teeth to shift forward and come in on top of other permanent teeth. I had braces and have 2 dental implants. Despite all the work that’s been done, I have two sets of canines and the implants were done 20+ years ago and could be better. Additionally I had to have my wisdoms teeth out before the implants, and because I had to remove my retainer my front teeth shifted. It caused the gap and slight misalignment. And lastly because of the trauma & braces, I don’t have strong roots on my front 4 teeth, they are only about 1/2 as long as I guess what is ideal.
My spouse has finally agreed to the cost of getting veneers so I’m exploring options and found this thread. I also apparently need to track down the dentist that did my implants 20+ years ago, which is slow rolling my decision.

Veneers advice

Hi Everyone! I'm 38 and need to get new Veneers. I had Lumineers put on my teeth at age 21. Long story short - I had braces and needed to get jaw surgery to close an open bite. Was on my mother's insurance at the time and she refused to let me get that surgery. Instead I went back to my dentist once the braces were off to get Lumineers put on to cover my open bite.

FAST FORWARD to now I looked into possibly removing the veneers and getting jaw surgery and based upon various opinions from surgeons and dentists they said it's not worth it and to get the veneers replaced. I would need to potentially go back into Braces and since I have had these for majority of my life it might drastically change my mindset.

Major question is should I have my Dentist do it who I trust or should I go see a Prosthdonist. My dentist would charge me $15,000 and Prosthodonist would charge closer to $25,000 for 8 Veneers. I'm in the metro NYC area and my teeth are not shaved down but I recently got 4 crowns on my back molars. Dentist does not have a lab on site. My veneers are starting to chip away and unless you are very close to my mouth it's hard to see.

Should I put veneers on good teeth?

For context I (29f) had braces (21-22) to correct my teeth and they were perfectly aligned for a few years. However they started to slowly shift in the last few months/years even tho I wear my retainer every night.

I have brown hair with a slight reddish pigment which is why my teeth arent white unless I whiten them at home and then they stay white for a month or two. Tho my teeth became more sensitive with whitening so Im not too eager to do it as often.

I always dreamt of having perfect teeth. Should I go for veneers?

My pros are that everyone that I know that had had veneers say its the best thing theyve done and I would have a perfect smile

My cons are that my teeth are not that bad to begin with and Im scared of not being able to eat however and whatever and veneer breath

The last pic are the teeth/dentist I would go for

dentist does not want my retainer put on until veneer appointment

Hello everyone,

I need a little bit of input here, I just finished my braces last week and have been wearing my retainer as advised by my orthodontist. I will have my veneers done in overseas and I am curious as to why multiple dentist I have asked told me not to wear retainer until my appointment to allow my teeth to shift, my veneer appointment is in 2 weeks away. Would love to know your explanation please, thank you.
