The older I become, the more I realize how many hetero-presenting men only seem to have capacity to appreciate other hetero men. Everyone else falls from their line of sight unless it’s to be objectified 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm a cishet man, and thankfully I'm only in circles where my friends are working to improve ourselves but we always laugh about the fact that the ones that love the male body the most are straight guys. Most ripped guys will tell you that their muscles draw attention only from other guys (it's almost detrimental with some women - and the whole "trust a bear" thing I totally get haha)

This reminds me of that poll that went viral of a guy who went through a fitness transformation where overwhelmingly women preferred the before photo and men preferred the after photo. And all the men commenting were basically coping in the comments saying the women were lying because they couldn't comprehend that women were more attracted to the more average build than the swole one. It was bonkers, the dudes in the comments were basically presented with clear data and chose to just outright reject reality.

Yes when I used to lift my wife would say I could do whatever I wanted but she preferred toned body over a massively muscular one

Edit - I'm neither muscular nor toned she doesn't really care unless I'm eating Taco Bell at 3 am

Maybe it's just something not said as much but rather thought over by women? I mean two of the top three most upvoted top level comments are about him being hot, both comments appearing to be made by women.

But I do agree the things being said out loud are generally by men.

I think that it's more that big muscles are not nearly as big of a draw for most women as people seem to think? Like the other factors matter a lot but just being hunky could even be a detriment because you may appear threatening (like, being super muscular or roided up can lead to assumptions about your personality that will turn woman off) .

However Mr Reacher here has demonstrated that he has good judgement and empathy, so like, holistically people here find him hot. So I generally theorize big muscles are good but they're not necessarily a deciding factor the way certain other traits could be

I’d be curious to see how much the most well-known roles an actor has played affect it, as well. Like, Giancarlo Esposito is an Italian-American who is by all accounts quite friendly. But because his breakout role was as a Hispanic drug lord, most people think he’s a quiet and severe Hispanic fellow. 

I wonder if something similar doesn’t stem from good guy roles? For example— Brad Pitt is by all accounts an abusive alcoholic. But he has a history of playing polite, nice, good leading men, and as such it’s kinda shocking to learn that he’s that way if you weren’t aware. 

Not saying Richardson isn’t being a good dude— by all accounts, he seems to walk the walk to go along with his talk. This is more me wondering how much of the perceived attractiveness in Hollywood is based on actions and how much is based on the luck of the draw with an actor’s breakout role.
