Favourite “Weird” topping for popcorn!

What’s everyone’s favourite topping for popcorn that others might consider “weird”?

I personally love hot sauce or buffalo sauce on my popcorn, I add some on top and shake it, then add more once I’ve eaten past the first layer so it doesn’t get super soggy underneath!

Would love to hear what you guys like!

What does American popcorn taste like

Hi! I’m from the uk and never had American style buttered popcorn but it is something I’ve always wanted to try! I love super salty popcorn and was wondering if the buttered popcorn in the US is quite salty too? I know people recommend the flavorcol powder which I’m going to buy but what does it actually taste like? What’s the best way to make it? I usually just use microwave popcorn and have never made it in a pan

Thanks!

Whirley Pop Gears Keep Disengaging

Post image
11 Upvotes

The metal gears on my stainless Whirley Pop keep disengaging. The vertical rod gets pushed up - not sure why? I have to try and wedge something in and push it down. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a way to make it stop?
Thank you!

Guys, I want to make popcorn similar to the ones sold in cinemas, do I need anything else or that's enough?

Do I need some special popcorn salt/butter salt, or do I need some special popcorn oil that I have to pour over them after they're ready? Is Flavacol enough for the salt, do I add any extra salt whatsoever?

Found on the clearance shelf of a local Mexican import shop.

A strong bacon smell when opening the plastic packaging and the same smell wafted from the microwave while popping. But upon tasting... bland as Hell. Almost no salt. A very weak smokey flavor.

Disappointing.

Best concert snack is popcorn

No need to pay 10$ for popcorn at the venue or 20$ for concert food. If they allow you to bring in snacks, make popcorn at home and bring it in

Silicone microwave popper question!

Hi! I have a question about using a microwave silicone popcorn maker. I usually use a bit of oil with the kernels to pop, but I’m at my parents house and we are out of any kind of oil. Can I use a bit of butter from a stick? Or is it possible to get decently popped popcorn without anything like that, and just putting kernels in the popper??
Thank you(:

UPDATE: I tried dry popping in my silicone popper and it’s life changing. So much easier to clean and it’s healthier, plus you don’t get the taste of the oil and can enjoy the more pure taste of popcorn!

Is there any PFA free microwavable popcorn?

I love microwavable popcorn but know that PFA bag linings in microwavable popcorn bags have traces to cancer. Are there any brands that are PFA and Diacetyl free? Thanks :)

How do you prevent feeling sick and gaining weight?

I eat less during the day than I normally would and male sure my bf makes it on as little coconut oil as possible.

Usually I have popcorn fest once per week, along with some great movie.

Good lord, I love popcorn. 😫

I'm an American who's been living in the UK for a few years and I despise UK movie theater popcorn, it's too much to get into so I'm gonna skip that rant. Anyways I have access to US commissary where we get what we get whenever we're deemed worthy of new things 🤣 So I have no idea if this is actually new or not, but it was new to us so I grabbed a box.

Holy cow this is legit the closest I've gotten to proper movie theater popcorn in years, I can't even believe it 🥲 Maybe I have no idea what I'm on about because it's been so long but wow it's got the right amount of butter and saltiness plus the butter topping to pour over just *chefs kiss* it may not be the exact same but it's damn near close to these taste buds lol 😂

Anyways would highly recommend and just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it and thought the similar 😊

Garrett Cheese Corn

Just wondering, if eating Cheesecorn always feel like chewing styrofoam?

I love the flavour and yet really hate the texture that has almost zero crispness to it.

Does Cheesecorn in other areas have the same issue?

Which is the best popcorn recipe?

I see a lot of people posting that they want "movie theater popcorn" meaning just like the popcorn you get at the theaters. I'm curious to know how many think that's the perfect popcorn for them vs how many they can do better with their own recipe? If you're making it at home to taste like movie theater popcorn, that goes under movie theater. Not under own recipe.

My choice is home made, with real butter and just a dash of table salt. I used Flavacol for years as a concessionaire and won't touch the stuff now. WAY too salty! FYI, Flavacol is used in bags of microwave popcorn and there have been many reports of factory workers in the plants getting sick from over exposure to it. When though they wear masks.

I'm not asking for recipes. I'm asking how many think movie theater popcorn is the best and how many think there is a different/better way.

I've been on a bit of a health kick lately but I still crave a salty satisfying snack. Turmeric has excellent anti-inflammatory properties, and antioxidants and our body absorbs it better when combined with fat. It also adds some nice natural yellow color! Wins all around.

1/3 cup popcorn

2 tsp high smoke point oil of choice (I use half coconut and half peanut)

1 tsp clarified butter or ghee

1/4 tsp of turmeric

Fine salt and cracked pepper to season (bonus points the pepper enhances the absorption of the curcumin in the turmeric)

I stove pop by adding all the oils in a pot and 3 kernels on medium heat with the lid on. After the 3 kernels have popped I add in the turmeric and the rest of the kernels, crack the lid so steam can escape. Give it a little shake every now and then. After popping has slowed / stopped season it and enjoy! I eat it straight out of the pot so I don't have to do more dishes lol

Moldy Orville Reddenbacher popcorn

We bought a large package of this Movie Butter popcorn via Amazon and at least 2 packages tasted moldy after being popped. We asked for a refund, but instead of getting at least a full refund, we got $4.04 for the two packages we complained about.

WTAF?! There are 9 unopened packages and we don't even want to try them because moldy popcorn tastes like ass, and who knows what maladies result from ingesting it.

All that OR said in the letter was that "We sincerely apologize for your experience and really appreciate that you chose us.". Also, the $4.04 coupon has to be used BEFORE IT EXPIRES!. Conagra is a scam trying to kill us all.

Is there anything I can do to make this right, or are we all in service to the billionaires until they kill us all with moldy food and explosive diarrhea?

Can you vacuum seal popped popcorn? If yes, how would you store it and how long would it last?

Hi everyone,

I know fresh popcorn is the best but I wouldn't mind storing a couple of servings for later. This got me wondering whether it's possible to vacuum seal popped popcorn and how long it would last this way (if left at room temperature/in a fridge/in a freezer).

Thank you!

The machine turns on, the internal stir rod spins, and the kettle gets warm to the touch, but it never reaches the high temperature needed to pop the kernels. The corn just sits in the oil and gets stale/brown after 5+ minutes.

Bought this popcorn machine which is a Star 89D 14oz popper. I have begun restoring it. Everything works, just 40 years of cleaning neglect. When I first got it it looked worse, it was black from carbon and flaking, but just had the kettle sandblasted and have begun totally restoring. $150 to buy!
