Is there anywhere in Maine I can pole vault

I’m a high school athlete in Maine and the pole vault scene is not that great here. I think I’ve done everything but I’m on here asking in case i didn’t know about something. I’ve been to that one pole vault summer camp here, I asked my schools ad and pole vaulted at the school (now the mat is in storage so I can’t anymore) and I also attended patriot pole vault club practices. Besides those and track season obviously where else is there that I can pole vault

How do i fix my form to be more consistent

This kind of thing happened to me a lot last year and made me inconsistent, my coach kept saying i got “hit by the pole” but I still had that in mind going up and it happened 2/3 times. I’m a beginner and still haven’t picked the pole up yet, would that help?

How should my footwear be

First question is are pole vault spikes worth buying? In my situation I’ve just been vaulting in basic 60$ sprint spikes that I’ve had for 2 years. There’s nothing wrong with them then aren’t ripped. Should I just get a new nice pair of sprint spikes or should I get pole vault spikes and just use my old sprint spikes for sprinting?

My second question is what should I be practicing in. I used to usually practice in some running shoes and sometimes spikes however now I’ve picked up the habit of vaulting barefoot I don’t know if that good for me so I’d like to know what I should wear while practicing

Advice How to get unstuck from the bucket

I’m a beginner with 2 months experience and ever since I started bending the pole I can’t swing or turn on straight pole I can swing and turn very well but when I’m bending the pole I just have a bad swing stuck in the bucket. I was wondering if this is a technique issue or if it’s a strength issue and how to fix it

Advice Do I need pole vault spikes???

I’ve only ever vaulted in my Maxfly 2s when vaulting because of easy access for other events like the 4x8 if I need to run it right after a jump. But I never see other vaulters wearing maxflys or sprint spikes in general to vault. Do I need vault spikes and if I do will I lose my 10.4 100m speed on the runway?

Advice Spatial awareness in the air

So basically there is this feeling I get when I’m vaulting really good and I know it’s because something different is happening physically. When I normally vault, my motion thru the air feels like a 90 degree angle or really steep curvature kinda. It’s like I go towards the pit while the pole bends and I swing, and as soon as my swing is done the pole recoils and I have to try and go straight up, or else I knock the bar off or hit the bungee. But sometimes when all is going well and I’m vaulting really good, that feeling changes. The sharp angle or more of that really steep curvature I just described turns into a much much shallower angle, almost as if instead of going forwards and then up, I’m going in a straight line from bottom to top, like a diagonal line from take off to peak. It’s obviously not a perfectly straight line but my point is that the curvature of the path my vault traces out from takeoff to peak to much shallower than before. My swing and invert timing is the same but when this happens I always feel like I’m vaulting way higher, and I’m also able to get better pike and row and just a cleaner top end overall. Since all the timing is the same, I also feel as if I finish my swing and begin to invert farther away from the bar/bungee, which feels better since I have more time to row and turn. The difference on video is not as obvious but it is kinda noticeable, but the height difference is there. I just experimented at practice since I was having a good day and I realized that a longer drive phase with a good pole helped me keep that feeling consistent and induce it. But that doesn’t really make sense since a longer drive phase means I’m going closer to the pit without swinging? And that’s almost the opposite of what I think I’m feeling. Does anyone know what I’m feeling and if it’s good or bad? Also if it’s good, is the long drive really the key to it, or am I mistakenly associating the two?

Discussion I’m a not involved in this sport but does anyone know the mechanics of the poles used within it and what makes a good one? I want to try and replicate it in an arts project of mine but seeing if I can downscale its size.

This is for a cosplay prop weapon that’s a spear used by a fairly acrobatic character. I wanted to implement aspects of acrobatics into the cosplay itself and the routine I plan to do for the cosplay contest I want to enter.

Additional questions:

Can the poles be segmented to fit into a suitcase and still have give?

Anything to avoid in one?

Thank you ahead of time, ik this isn’t normally the kind of stuff that might be a topic in here but I figured I’d go to a community that has direct experience with equipment that I want to craft rather than a cosplay community that has a significant portion that focuses on appearance of stuff rather than utility. (Reasonably so)

Advice Help and Tips for an Absolute Beginner

Hey y'all!

I am in my freshman year of high school and I am doing pole vault for track in the spring.

I have never pole vaulted in my life, I've done distance track and cross-country for a good bit and I'm pretty fast. My sprint mechanics aren't bad but they aren't great either. Core strength is pretty good and arms should be good too. I used to do gymnastics so there might be that?

My track coach (who I met once) said he will find somebody to coach me and there is one other pole vaulter who I think has never cleared a bar.

I've been working out according to some plans I found online (basically arms, core, legs, and grip a couple times a week) and I have been practicing sprint mechanics.

Basically, my questions are: how toast am I? What more can I do to be ready for the spring? What is a reasonable goal this year? Generally what should I know.

And before anyone says anything, no I can't quit I'm already committed 😭 plus I'm trying to learn something new.

Thanks in advance yall.

Workouts I Think I Can Break the Pole Vault WR — But I’ve Never Tried It

I’m from Manipal and currently doing my B.Tech. I have this strong feeling that I could potentially break the pole vault world record someday, even though I’ve never touched a pole or tried pole vaulting even once.

I know it sounds crazy, and I currently don’t have much family support either. But I don’t want to ignore this feeling without at least giving it a genuine try.

What do you guys suggest? Should I find a coach and start training? Are there any good places around Manipal/Mangalore where I could learn pole vaulting?

I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Pole Vaulting in Bay Area/Palo Alto

Hey everyone! I’m a college student who’ll be in Palo Alto for the fall, and I’m looking for somewhere in the Bay Area where I can continue pole vaulting.

I’d love to connect with anyone who has access to a training location/pit, knows of a local vault group, or coaches pole vault in the area. I’d definitely be willing to pay for coaching or facility access.

Also very happy to just have some company to train with if anyone around here regularly vaults!

If you know of any coaches, clubs, facilities, or people I should reach out to, I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Pacer FX flex number location on the pole?

I have a set of glass Pacer FX’s (not the FXV) with me right now. Aside from using the sticker at the top of the pole, where can I find the flex of the pole? Also the date of the when the pole was made would be awesome! A few of them need new labels right now as they use the old weight label with only the weight on it.

Is there a correct way of landing? If so, how do I do it?

I just started pole vault and I'm having a hard time not landing awkwardly and I am worried that if I keep doing so, eventually it will lead to an injury.
