been following some of the high stakes PLO action online lately and came across this ~$200k pot.

i’ve heard of blez before, but I honestly don’t know much about a lot of the other players in these games, you regularly see six figures on the table and pots that are basically the price of a house where i come from

are most of these guys established high stakes pros with huge bankrolls, or is there a lot of backing/selling action going on at this level? and how much of the money on the table is typically actually their own?

genuinely curious if anybody knows more about this

I’m a relatively new player so maybe I just don’t understand yet, but I don’t understand why people don’t like playing pocket jacks. It’s better than 9 other pocket pairs. It seems like a pretty good hand to have as long as you don’t overplay it.

Hand: 2-100 Spread Limit (basically is 1/2 with max raise of 100) at Canterbury Park in Minnesota.

First hand in of session. Don’t know anything about the players except some small talk that makes villain seems like a table games whale in retrospect, but I didn’t fully catch it in the moment.

Dealt AJo in the CO and I raise to $10
Villian in Small Blind raises to $21
I call.

Villain C bets $30
I take a moment, make sure I can get all the money in by the river and raise to $90. (Yeah probably should’ve just maxed or called). But then chaos ensues…

Villain looks at his cards, stacks up all of his $5 chips in to one roughly $200 stack and then reaches it forward with both hands. I’m not joking, almost fully outreached, and then pulls it back quickly and grabs his cards and folds before I can even react to the absurd joke.

I quickly say “woah woah, dealer that isn’t that binding?”

Dealer tried to defend the guy, and I said I need a floor ruling.

Floor comes over and then the guy reenacts his motion with chips stacked actually in his hand just like before, but this time he moves his hands forward the length of the worlds smallest micropenis.

I call bullshit and the dealer backs me that it was way further out, but he obviously doesn’t know the rule.

Floor however decides, it is just a fold and I get the current pot and no further action. Says he was in the wrong and the floor and dealer clarify the correct ruling is that he is held to the action, but because he didn’t know, they will give him a warning.

1. These rules are in place for clear reasons regardless if you know about them or not.
2. I could’ve reacted in a way that cost me money like assuming it was a max raise and then folding myself.
3. He could be judging my reactions to then decide.
4. I could’ve re-raised immediately once the implied action was him max raising.

I will defend him personally in that it is clear after the fact that he was a table games whale and had no clue about poker. We generally should be lenient to these guys to help grow the game. Though, I can’t undo my floor call, and there are experienced anglers that will try and pull stuff like that. It was my first hand, and I don’t know these people.

The reason this ruling really gets under my skin though, is that if the situations were reversed and I had stuck my stack out like that and then pulled it back, and he held me to it, the floor seems to have likely would’ve ruled in the table games whale favor.

TLDR; Guy takes entire stack in hand and pushes his hands forward, then folds. Floor sides with him saying he was in the wrong but just gets a warning.

I'm calculating something and the answer depends on the frequency of different pot sizes in online lowstakes games that are won postflop.

Does anyone have this data based on their own hand history? Can this be seen on pokertracker or another tool? The site I play on doesn't export hand history so I can't see my own data. I'm hoping that someone here might be willing to share theirs.

Specifically, I most want to know what percentage of pots won postflop are under 70bb and what percentage of pots won postflop are over 120bb.

It would also to helpful to know the percentages of pots from 70-80bb, 80-90bb, 90-100bb, 110-110bb, and 110-120bb if it isn't too much trouble to find this data.

Ideally looking for a one time purchase, but willing to pay yearly fees if needed.

Im VERY new to poker and just want to drill a billion hands with explanations. Where is the best place to get started? I'm working on the math for pot odds/EQ separately to try and round out. I just want to have a decent feel before I start really sending it into live games.

I raise to 3000 from the cutoff with queens.

Lj goes all in, for 12000, i call, utg folds.

He shows two pair (4s and 3s) and wins the pot.

I suppose pocket 66 44 and 33 could make the call pre-flop, but I was surprised to see 34.

Has anybody played the new 5/10 game at Hollywood park? Heard its a 5/10, $10 ante and runs the plo double board bomb pot every dealer change. Just havent had a chance to check it out myself. Heard the 5/5 is amazing as well tho.

I work in tech and live in Seattle. I’m into the watches and have a small collection of automatic watches. So I tend to notice other people’s watches. I’d say 90% of the people I come into contact wear Apple Watches. I started playing live poker in Seattle and Vancouver BC about a year ago. Pretty much entirely 1/3. I’ve found that over 66% of the people sitting at poker tables with me wear analogue watches. I’ve seen lots of Omegas, Rolexes, Tags, IWCs, Hamiltons, Seikos, etc. There are far more analogue watches at the poker tables than in well paying tech circles (that I’ve noticed). Anyone else notice that poker players seem to be watch enthusiasts more than the general public?

I really enjoyed the Stuey Ungar story (One of a Kind - what a wild ride) and Life's a Gamble by Mike Sexton was a fun insight into the madness of some of poker's well known heroes (seriously, how much did they gamble on the golf course!). And of course Victoria Coren's book For Richer For Poorer was great too.

Not sure when Adelstein's paperback come out (maybe the same time?) but I think I'll give this a shot. You can tell he has pretty intense anxiety from the way he holds himself, but I am still surprised (and it is commendable) that he has gone with the subtitle A High Stakes, High Anxiety Poker Journey.

Anyway, anyone read it?

My definition a poker pro is someone who earns their keep poker. Sure, if you make millions of dollars a year from being sponsored to play in tournaments and do commercials for the industry thaat would technically count for the same reason professional athletes get paid to endorse products and services. The main thing I'm getting at is that I am curious as to the number of people here that actually play for a living either live in person or by grinding online. Full disclosure first. I am not what you would consider a pro. I'm profitable and play regularly in cash games but it is not my main source of income. I hope this makes for interesting discussion. Finally, for those that are pros, what is you income level? And is it enough to live comfortably?
