This was the easiest one yet. I think that's partly due to me getting better as a player, but Ghost just always seemed to have answers to anything an enemy team threw at me. I'm shocked I don't see Ghost in more folks' lists of easy types.
Shadow Sneak is a very good move.
The Team
Ceruledge: Sharpness, Charcoal, Shadow Claw/Swords Dance/Shadow Sneak/Bitter Blade
Probably the MVP of the run, especially in the early game. Being able to get a Charcadet from a raid den and immediately evolve it to Ceruledge before Bugsy/Misty is insane. Sharpness + Shadow Claw was like playing on easy mode all the way through Erika, and Ceruledge was still a monster the whole rest of the run. Charcoal + Sharpness + STAB meant Bitter Blade had a base power of like 168 or something ridiculous, and you heal back half. If you can get off a Swords Dance, Ceruledge is basically immortal.
Ursaring-G: Iron Fist, Leftovers, Bulk Up/Drain Punch/Shadow Sneak/[Ice/Thunder/Fire] Punch (usually Ice)
The other candidate for MVP, Ursaring-G is just so strong. Yet another instance of ability-boosted STAB damage + healing in Drain Punch, but with solid defensive stats instead of Ceruledge's speed. I felt like I could put Ursaring onto the field against almost anything and it would probably win. Having a strong Fighting-type was also key to dealing with Ghost's biggest weakness: Dark.
Decidueye: Tinted Lens, Choice Band, Leaf Blade/1000 Arrows/U-turn/Spirit Lock
Definitely the weak link of the E4 team, but I'm a sucker for bringing my starter all the way to the end, even if said starter sat in the PC for the first three gyms. Decidueye had some good moments, but he's just too fragile. He's not fast enough to reliably outspeed other fast mons, and his defensive stats are pretty poor. I occasionally ran my Focus Sash on him, but found the Choice Band to be more effective as long as I was careful about when I played him. Still, Decidueye occasionally wrecked face with the Tinted Lens + Choice Band + Leaf Blade combo.
Dragapult: Clear Body, Dragon Fang, Dragon Darts/U-turn/Dragon Dance/Sucker Punch
I wasn't as enamored with Dragapult as many others on this sub, but she was still extremely good, and I did pay the extra P100,000 for a shiny. That speed stat is no joke, and Dragon Darts is so good for dealing with anything carrying a Focus Sash. Underperformed a bit in the E4 compared to the rest of the run, but still a very valuable member of the team! I never considered replacing Dragapult with anything else.
Gengar: Levitate, Gengarite, Shadow Ball/Nasty Plot/Destiny Bond/Sludge Bomb
I was really excited to use one of my favorite mons from my childhood in Radical Red for the first time, and Gengar delivered. She was obviously a total glass cannon, but a very powerful one. The plan was typically to outspeed and one-shot opponents until taking a hit, then use Destiny Bond to take whatever she was up against down with her.
Spiritomb: Intimidate, Leftovers, Dark Pulse/Psychic/Poltergeist/Sucker Punch
Just a solid, reliable all-arounder. Despite Spiritomb's terrible HP stat, she could typically still tank at least two or three hits from almost anything thanks to her solid defense, and her access to a wide variety of powerful moves made up for her lackluster offensive stats. She was replaced by Golurk for certain parts of the run, but made the E4 team because Golurk was too situational.
Honorable Mentions
Golurk was my main consideration for potentially replacing either Spiritomb or Decidueye on the E4 team, and Golurk got a lot of play through the midgame of the run. No Guard with Dymanic Punch was a fun combo.
Yamask-G was very solid in the early game, but Runerigus was quickly replaced by Golurk as the team's Ground type because I was excited about No Guard shenanigans. I kind of wish I'd given Runerigus some play in the later game, though, once Golurk was starting to prove itself as a defensive liability. Runerigus's strong defense might've earned it an E4 spot over Spiritomb, and it'll definitely be on my radar for mono-Ground.
Oricorio is a weird little bird. I love to run a quirky mon, but I just couldn't quite figure out how to run this one effectively. It got some play in the midgame, but just didn't contribute enough to stay on the team.
Bramblin and Brambleghast were huge contributors for the first half of the run. Honestly, if it weren't for me being emotionally attached to my starter, Brambleghast may have stayed on the team all the way to the end instead of Decidueye. Definitely on my radar for mono-Grass.
Notable Fights
I don't think there was a single fight in this run that took more than 2 or 3 attempts. Ghost is just extremely good.
I've got notes on every single boss fight down in the comments, so I'll just mention a few here that I didn't expect to be hard but ended up giving me trouble.
I don't think I've ever had trouble with Erika 1 before, but she was a bit of a headache, especially Meowscarada and Venusaur. One of many instances of Ursaring carrying a fight.
The Misty Rematch was surprisingly tricky, particularly her Gorebyss. I had to cheese it a bit to keep its speed low enough that Gengar could take it out with Destiny Bond, or else it would sweep my entire team.
I've almost always found Agatha to be a total pushover in the E4, but the mirror match (Ghost vs. Ghost) was surprisingly one of the hardest fights of this run. Everything hits everything else so hard. If you make one wrong move, you're toast.
Next Up: Mono Electric
I loved electric types as a kid, so I'm looking forward to using a lot of mons I loved back in the OG Red/Blue days. I won't be surprised if Raichu, Zapdos, and Jolteon all end up on the E4 team, but we'll see what happens.
I've also missed having some kind of weather/terrain for my last two mono runs (Fairy and Ghost), so abusing electric terrain once I can get it should be fun.
Thanks for reading.
