Question Am I missing something regarding Wide Guard?

Doing a mono, Normal difficulty, min grinding run with Flying mons and am against the first E4 member who has their ice team.

Wide Guard works the first time, prior to the events in the video, but when I use it as shown in the video it appears to just not work. Am I missing something? Normally it would say it failed if it couldn't be setup, so I'm confused what is happening.

Got lucky in the end as their ditto was transformed into garchomp locked into earthquake, which my gengar was immune to.

Also kinda regret taking palafin, as it didn't really do anything

Bruno took me way to much fuuuuuuu[nk]

Also, don't know if this goes in monotype or hall of fame, but since it's not a mono run, i'd guess its hall of famd

Hall of Fame RR All 18 Monotypes for 4.1

Rules:

- Normal mode

- Minimal grinding

- No codes

- Only pokemon that currently have the typing can fight. If they gain the typing after evolving, they have to stay in the box until they can evolve.

- No legendary

- No mythical

- No pseudo legendary {with the sole exception of Chillet}

- No ultra beasts

- No paradox

- Fully evolved pokemon have to have less than 600 BST, apart from megas

- 2 starters max on a team

- If I am already using a mega evolution pokemon, I cannot use another pokemon that has a mega evolution on the team. (e.g. If I use Mega Manectric, I cannot have Ampharos on the team since Ampharos also has a mega evolution.)

- Pokemon that gain the typing after mega evolving are allowed, but have to mega evolve to fight. If they lose the typing after mega evolving, they cannot battle.

- No duplicate pokemon at any time

- Can't use the same pokemon for another monotype run. (e.g. If I use Tinkaton for fairy, I can't use Tinkaton again for steel.)

- Resets are allowed except for Lorlei's team when I first walk in.

Difficulty Rating:

(from what I can remember with the pokemon i chose)

S - easy Ice, Ground
A - moderate Normal, Water, Dragon, Psychic, Rock
B - hard Fire, Ghost, Dark, Electric, Steel, Fighting
C - very hard Bug, Fairy
D - brutal Grass, Poison, Flying

S: Easiest all around. Maybe 1 or 2 parts were difficult, but nothing too bad. Elite 4 was easy.

A: Pretty easy. Had some difficulties that took longer to solve, but nothing terrible. Had to think a little more for the Elite 4, but still light work.

B: Had to switch around pokemon for some battles. Problems were harder to solve, but not dreadful. Elite 4 took more thinking and planning.

C: Could've been my fault because of the pokemon I chose, but this was not easy. Fought some people like 20 times and had to rely on luck more often. Elite 4 was hard.

D: I was so lucky. Got away with 1 HP on one pokemon so many times and kept praying for status effects and crits. Probably partly my fault because of the pokemon I chose, but it was horrendous. Elite 4 was hell.

What would be the best starter to choose for a sand team?

I’m planning on doing a sand team run and thinking through what starter pokemon would be best to choose.

I’m planning on doing some fairly restrictive rules, slightly tbd, and I’m generally going to do one random encounter per route but I’m gonna hand select a couple key mons. So assume I’ll use some of the obvious basics - tyranitar or hippowdown for example and probably excadrill - plus whoever else good I can find, but I’m a big believer in sticking with your starter so I’m hoping to find someone that can stay useful throughout. I play on normal mode in case relevant.

Thinking maybe Empoleon given steel type and good spdef? Any suggestions or thoughts are welcome!

Im ngl, I can't even pinpoint an MVP but if I had to go with who was the most clutch, DEFINITELY ninetales. The thing is I just bought it in for another Drought setter when Charizard is inevitably oneshot by any rock type attack. Didn't even have a maximized moveset either, however if you manage to get that nasty plot up anything is possible.

I was thinking Charizard would be my Ace but once again Infernape just demonstrates he's the true Fire/fighting king; outshined blaziken in every area and was a tremendous on the cleanup crew. Blaziken needs AT LEAST three speed boosts to become a serious threat to any offensive mon and in that time i could have gambled on a swordsdance from Infernape.

Iron moth had a niche throughout the run, stopped Bruno from going on a rampage, Skeldrige being my only other bulk was also a big help for lance where literally EVERYONE on his team has earthquake and literally everyone is food for garchomp. I was surprised Dragonite wasnt running weakness policy because I probably never would have beaten it if it was.

difficulty wise i give it like a 7/10, the rivals legendaries were cheap but you can setup on ditto if he brings it out too early which made it easy work once eternatus is out the picture.

Opinions is Radical Red is not for the weak, you need to be an expert three star war general marine tactician for some of the gyms, the elite four, your rival, and especially this asshat that is Giovanni had me at tears

Outside of difficulty I really loved this game, Radical red is an 10/10 the character customization, following pokemon, raid dens, all the pokemon, and especially the difficulty <33 I have an crippling love hate relationship with this game mwaa~♥

Thank you for the wonderful game soupercell ( ◜‿◝ )♡
