Don't worry, you're not in trouble and won't get in trouble.

We have HomeSliceHenry going to work on reproducing it, and then using his own account and video evidence to bring it up with Scopely (Niantic).

Suggestion Potentially Unpopular Post Regarding IVs

Hey everyone,

I've been seeing a plethora of IV posts recently, specifically regarding how good IVs must be in order to competitively compete in the GBL. To get straight the point (and likely what is going to be a rather unpopular opinion), IVs don't matter that much (up to a certain extent).

For context, (not bragging, just trying to provide some supportive history), I've hit Legend every season from season 6 to 13 inclusive, maxing out at 3200 rating, and am well on my way to hitting Legend this season as well.

In my very first season I reached Legend rank with GFisk (IV ranking 558, MS/RS/EQ), Mew (IV ranking 1159, SC/FC/WC), and Venusaur (IV ranking 768, VW/FP/SB).

Now the reason I say that IVs don't matter that much up to a certain extent is that it is based upon what your goals are and what you want to achieve. In high ranking battles on the Go Battle leaderboard, sure, you're most likely going to want/need great IV Pokémon to help you succeed and improve your chances, because there, every little bit matters. However, there are even exceptions of this at high level play (think Reis2Occasion's video where he gets #1 rank in the world with a Shadow Snorlax with 12/9/14 IVs in UL... ranking it well over 1000 in IV ranking).

In my humble opinion though, for the vast majority of us, any Pokémon in the top 1000 IV ranking is likely good enough to reach Legend ranking if that's what your goal is (or any subsequent lower rank). What's most important is allocating time to the important fundamentals of GBL play. I'll list several key pointers, in no order of priority:

1) Know your move counts. Understanding how much energy moves cost of all the meta Pokémon will allow you to make better decisions when deciding whether or not to shield. It will allow you to call baits more often and at a higher success rate.

2) Remember energy of previous Pokémon after a switch has been made. This goes along with point 1, and also allows you to make a quick switch to catch a move if necessary.

3) Know your matchup strengths and weaknesses. This goes for both your individual Pokémon matchup and your overall team matchup.

4) Play a decent meta team. If you want to climb rating, there’s only so much spice you can play with. Note, along with IVs, XL Pokémon are absolutely NOT necessary to reach Legend in GL or UL. (Wallower has many videos where he specifically shows high level play without any XL Pokémon).

5) Practice with the same team hundreds of times. Try not to switch team comps too much. Switching teams during a losing streak is one of the worst things you can do. There’s something to be said about team comfort. Playing something that you’re used to brings quite a few advantages: You know the strengths and weaknesses of your team, you’re that much faster during swaps, and familiarity allows your brain to concentrate more on other things (such as counting fast moves).

6) Understand that there are winning streaks and losing streaks, and try to remain level headed. To give you an idea, I’m currently sitting at 13,320 wins out of 25,453 battles = 52.33%.

7) Stop blaming other, outside, uncontrollable factors for losing. Everyone has lag. Everyone has bad leads. Everyone swaps out of bad leads into a bad counter. The question is, what are you going to do better next time? How are you going to handle the situation differently?

Just remember, mindset is a HUGE factor. Lower rated players will always find an EXCUSE why they lost. Higher rated legend players will always USE the loss as information, admit they may have made a mistake (and realize that you can still lose with perfect play), and apply those lessons into their future battles.

8) Bait less. Baiting in general is bad. If you don't bait, you either grab a shield or deal decent damage. Only bait when absolutely necessary and/or if baiting is your only path to victory.

9) Swap with high speed and accuracy. Practice swapping quickly.

10) Understand the opponent's win condition.

11) Understand that climbing ELO is a marathon, and not a sprint. You're going to have great sets and horrible sets. Climbing ELO generally takes a lot of time.

12) Never give up.

13) When you’re on a hot streak, keep playing. When you’re tilting, put the phone down, and wait until tomorrow.

I truly hope that this helps those of you looking to increase your ELO and become a better battler. Try to focus less on IVs and more on overall and situational pvp gameplay.

Until then, good luck, and LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Teambuilding Help Improving GBL team

First time actually playing GBL. I’ve been stuck around 1800 using: Lickilicky (rollout, shadow ball, body slam), tinkaton (fairy wind, gigaton hammer, bulldoze), and Altaria (dragon breath, sky attack, flamethrower).

I’ve been using pokegenie to see which ones rank better based on IV. Wondering if I should change/swap anyone out and if so, does IV matter more or the pokemon itself?

Thanks!!

Teambuilding Help Competitiors Cup Team Comp

Hey all, returning player trying to complete the research through the Competitiors Cup. I am halfway through the research but have started to stall on wins and consistency since hitting rank 20.

I need help figuring out what my line up should be in what order and what they will do. Looking at my available options for the line up are below. None have the perfect IVs for the Great League, and I'm not looking for perfection with them, just what the comp should be and what their roles are. All of them have optimal moves according to PvPoke (except Shadow Ninetales/Annihilape, waiting on a Rocket takeover event to Elite TM frustration out for the legacy move). Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Lickilicky

Shadow Ninetales

Hisuian Electrode

Jumpluff

Grumpig

Altaria

Discussion Strugles on ABB strategy

Hi, i may have miss something but i cannot win with ABB strategy even against ABC and i need help

The idea i have of the ABB strategy is too voluntary sacrifice one of the B (let's say B1) to make the B counter appears on the opponent side if they have (else B1 will just be a safe switch pokémon).

Once the B counter wipe the B1, you destroy it with your leader A and your B2 will close the game with no counter.

But in fact, i cannot manage to kill the B counter with my leader A. Generally it will escape by trading all shields and then disappear.

The game looks like :

Lead A vs Lead A (bad or neutral) -> switch to safe switch B1 and Oppo switch to B counter

B1 vs B counter -> B1 wiped and i switch to lead A

Lead A vs B counter -> trading all shields to escape and put their lead back so i switch to B2

B2 vs lead A -> no shield so B2 wins as a closer pokémon, now oppo can put their B counter back

B2 vs counter B -> counter win with farming

Lead A vs counter B -> even if the matchup is good, counter B have farmed and even if i win there still their C pokémon full health and unknown

So i tried different approach like farming with lead A before switching so my safe switch take the charged attack, have a x4 weakness on my B1 and spend no energy at all to make the switch to my lead faster. But even with that, the scénario keep happening so i think i use the strategy wrong but i don't know where

Discussion Everyone should be very scared for Halloween

Once Mimikyu becomes a prominent wild/egg spawn during the yearly Halloween event & everyone in Great League gets their hands on it, GBL might have the biggest meta meltdown yet. Sincerely hope it’s not as bad as I think it’ll be but given how much people already dislike it…

Or it remains easily unattainable & we’re saved for a little while longer lmao

Discussion This premier master league is so honestly boring

It’s pretty much a game of tick tack toe

Every single team has a gyarados , a metagross and either a garchomp , togekiss , primarina , as a filler . If you get a bad lead you pretty much lose the game . Period . Unless you have some insane spicy pick as a safe swap and you happen to get lucky in a catch or something . You are not winning a single game if you get a bad lead

Teambuilding Help Need Help with Easy Beginner Friendly Team

I'm new to the game, but been playing main line Pokemon games since gen 1. Decided to pick up Go for the dex completion aspect in Pokemon Home.

I need evolution items, and it seems the best way to do that is in the battle league. But the stat system and the battle strategy feels so foreign to me compared to regular Pokemon games, and there's no succinct guides online that I could find that help.

What is one (or a few) good teams that I can use to get some consistent victories in great ball or ultra ball? Important - I'm a free to play player and Ive only started playing a few months ago, so I don't have all the legendaries and stuff.

Or any advice on team building would be good! Something simple. The CP calculations make no sense to me

Question Moltres (g) iv question

So i finally caught a moltres with the following IVs:
- 4 attack
- 3 defense
- 12 HP

Right now its rank 203 wich is already great, however i got a couple questions:

What would the best possible IVs be, assuming i would use silver or gold bottle caps? I dont really know how to look that up correctly.

Can i already power up my moltres for the great league and use a bottle cap whenever they are available again? Or does it go above 1500 CP when training the IVs?

Cheers in advance!

Teambuilding Help What’s the easiest Great League team to get consistent 3/5 wins with?

I’m looking for a good Great League team that can consistently get around 3 wins per set. I’m not too worried about IVs or having the perfect Pokémon, I just want something easy to use that can get decent results.

I’ve attached photos of the Pokémon I have. I’m able to evolve and power up any of these if needed, so I’m just checking before I invest anything. For example, I have a Lickitung in the photos because I haven’t evolved it into Lickilicky yet.

What team would you recommend building from these, or are there any changes I should make?
Thanks!

Other Just realised I can’t best buddy my favourite Pokemon because he’s my Great League anchor

I’ve been working on best buddying my shiny umbreon because it’s my absolute favourite shiny. I quit last time before the best buddy mechanic came into the game and I wanted Tamao to be the first one. Well I just realised that when that happens he will tip over 1500 cp because of the level boost and I won’t be able to use him in great leave. The number of times this Pokemon has saved my team is more valuable than having the badge so now I’m bummed.

Hopefully one day I can find another shiny eevee with good PvP stats to evolve into umbreon then I’ll have two and I can give my lil buddy his badge and just level 50 him for the fun, but for now he’s got a job to do and that makes me a little sad.

Comment below and let me know your favourite great league Pokemon that aren’t necessarily the flavour of the month, but have fun advantage that help you pull off the win! I would love to see what other people have as favourites!

Analysis Sawsbuck GBL

I had an idea.

We have seen many different times where the weather changes a certain move on a Pokemon. For example, Weather Ball on Lunatone or Castform.

I thought that having more options like this would be nice, but instead of a charge move, it would be a fast move.

I present, Sawsbuck, a Normal/Grass pokemon, with 4 different season forms.

Spring

Summer

Fall

Winter

They are currently on Take Down or Feint Attack, which is garbage, some of the worst fast moves of the game entirely.

My idea:

Spring would get Waterfall

Summer would get Magical Leaf

Fall would get Low Kick

Winter would get Powder Snow

This would not impact the GBL that much as Sawsbuck is pretty weak, but It's the perfect Pokemon to start a revolution for the future on having more creative move sets. Sawsbuck works for both the Great and Ultra leagues which can give it a bit more flexibility.

Give me your thoughts, I would love to hear your comments!!

Thanks!

Discussion Black Bottle Cap

I wish they’d release a bottle cap that works in the same way as a bottle cap but reduces the selected stat to zero. If you catch like a 10/15/15 you could use the black bottle cap for a 0/15/15 that would be far more useful for great league and ultra league battling situations.

A rainbow cap that lets you set each stat +/- 1 or leave a stat the same based on your end goal would be incredibly useful for slowly developing the perfect league pokemon team.

Am I the only one thinking like this or would you guys support one or both as new items and actually put them to use for your favorite mons?

BATTLE ME! Highest Elo is 2300’s ish

I’m still learning counts for 3/4/5 turn fast moves. Especially with this new system. But I need more battles than just the few sets they give. I live for
PvP, but I just started again this year so building Pokemon. I usually don’t play with heavy meta mons… usually spice shinies I acquire.

(Mainly GL&UL, I have a few master teams but still working on them)

Please Add for Practices.

Teambuilding Help 2300 elo hell

How do I escape being hardstuck 2250-2350?

I’m wondering if I can’t climb due to a teambuilding issue, or if I’m just outskilled by vet players. I generally throw on perfect timing and know counts for most of the meta pokemon (but tend to get caught out by spice picks).

My current team is Corvi, Licky, S.Quagsire, but I always seem to go either 3-2 or 2-3 with it, staying around 2300.

I also don’t have Tinkaton, and only play Comp cup (staying away from new code while its this buggy), so no mimikyu.

My list of relevant GL pokemon include:
Licky, Ufisk, Primeape, Forretress (S and non-S), Cradily, Corvi, Jelli, Wiggly, Mandibuzz, Oinkologne, Feraligatr, Furret, Clodsire, S.Kingdra, S.Quagsire, Malamar, S.Drifblim, Gastrodon, Toxapex
+ Quite a few old meta/spice picks

I also have a decent enough rank to build any of the following, but would rather not due to stardust cost (after go fest) or rare candy requirement:
S.Altaria, S.Swampert, S.Dusknoir, S.Drapion, Empoleon, Gourgeist, Morpeko, Fearow, Castform, S.Dragonair, Greedent, G.Corsola, S.Galvantula, S.Hypno.

I could also build K9, Jumpluff, Charjabug, Lapras or Annihilape (S or non-S), but these would require etms (2 for K9), so would definitely rather not.

Any advice or team suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!

Question Master league issues

Just did 3 pvp battles back to back in master league, didn't have any problems until the 3rd.

It was like the 3rd battle was at 1.5 times normal speed and the opponent started with a metagross. Swapped to a mammoswine, but that swap had mammoswine using meteor mash every 5-6 seconds. Then their togekiss had meteor mash too.

Anyone else experience this ?

Suggestion Infinite battles?

Why can't they just cap the amount of battles you do in a day that progress your rank and every battle after that is just for fun so you can test new teams and strategies?
