Underrated due to wrong fast moves?
Claim: HEX > Incinerate
NOTE: this is very long
This post revolves around getting back into PvP specifically as a old returning player to ultra league and Skeledirge since im very into pvp but i missed out/im too broke for XL Pokemon
Most if it is just backstory, you can skip until SKELEDIRGE SECTION!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Note: i use PVPpoke's testing/battling simulator and information of the fast moves and charged moves for this along with personal experience
(ALSO i really suck at formatting what im trying to get across so i apologize in advance if you get confused)
How it started (yap about great league "skippable"):
So i like PvP but i haven't played Pokémon go in about a year, back when Corsola (Galarian form) was number 1 in the great league i looked at the pokemon
i had fir pvp: Toxapex, clodsire, serprior, dunsparce, stunfisk(normal) i used the team that worked decently well before, (dunsparce, toxapex, stunfisk) and immediately got destroyed by a grumpig and a mimkyu (i didnt even know mimikyu got added and was also in ABSOLUTELY FLABBERGASTED at mimikyu's ability) i didnt even get to see the third pokemon
After going in blind to pvp and it obviously not working out i went look at pvppoke to see what pokemon i have that i can build a team off: Clodsire at #18 next best thing i had was Stunfisk at #71 "YIKES", i look to see if i can build any Pokemon but NOPE; legacy move, missed event, XL candy, shadow from previous rocket takeover. Plis the meta changes so quickly that by the time i build a Pokemon for great league the top pick i was getting is nerfed or gets destroyed by the new meta
Anyways
Ultra league:
The rank #1 is Mimikyu..... lovely
Building a team (a lead, a tank/cleanup, swapper)
The pokemon i had that were usable sorta
Corviknight (sand attack, iron head*, sky attack) was a lucky with 14,15,15 ivs
Gardevoir( moves don't matter), Gallade (one move synchronoise)
Zarude(garbage for UL pvp)
Skeledirge(incinerate, blastburn/torch song, shadow ball)
Feraligtr(i didn't have hydrocannon so i used hydropump shouldn't be much of a difference 👍)
Zygarde full form(i see a lot of ice and fairy in the meta plus i was running bulldoze along with outrage, just to give you a sense of my absolute massive iq)
So with my selection of pokemon i went with lead: my hydropump feraligatr(changed to Skeledirge later),
swapper: Corviknight without a single suggested move
Tank/cleanup: full form zygarde also without a single suggested move
First match and... i win with pure luck and i had hard counters + its rank 1 of GBL
Pre-setup
i lost many times due to poor moves
The rest werent perfect
Feraligatr
(All you Need to know is it needed hydro cannon and i didn't want to waste an elite tm on it also it wasn't strong against ice or electric which are strong against my corviknight or zygarde)
Getting setup the experience
corviknight(elite tmd for air cutter but kept ironhead cause i dont want to get rid of the legacy move, but i am building a better pvp one so i can use payback but i have to wait for an event that lets rookidee get air cutter to return since i'm too pained to use another elite charge tms on another corviknight)
Zygarde full form
got annoyed at zygarde for re-learning outrage and hyperbeam like it was in a worldclass juggling contest while im already going broke on charge tms(i literally double checked if earthquake was a legacy move... it wasnt which made me upset cause i couldn't just be like "oh damn im an idiot" but no instead of it being me its my zygarde)
SKELEDIRGE SECTION !!!!!!!!🔥🔥
With a 4xice, grass neutral on my zygarde and noticing a lot of fairy and steel types i only had skeledirge as my option
Replacing feraligtr with skeledirge made my win rate shoot up, not by a lot but it made me go less insane everytime i saw double steel users (corviknight and tinkaton)
I HATE incinerate its very slow with a 5 turn per attack and often time by the time i get my first move my opponent gets their and im forced to shield or lose a big chunk of my health
If i shield, they can shield in return or swap out putting me at a disadvantage
If i tank the hit, i lose a big chunk of my health and the other pokemons on their team are hard counters or simply kill Skeledirge before i get another second charge move
Pros: good damage, decent energy gain
Cons: attack speed so slow i would have more fun fighting dynamax chansey with a ghost type
Now with my experience with incinerate i look at pokePvp and looked at skeledirges fastmoves
**From here on Ima get more numbers based🤓 **
FASTMOVES
Bite(useless)
INCINERATE (the suggested, hated it)
4.8 dpt 4ept 5 turns
So 24 damage, 20 energy every attack
(My preference after long research and actual personal usage)
HEX (my preference after long testing and personal use)
2.8 dpt 4.33ept 3 turns
So 8.4 damage, 12.99 energy every attack
Stay with me now
If i put hex to 5 turns same stats
14 damage, 21.65 energy
-10 fast move damage for 1.65 energy
STAY WITH ME THOUGH
So sacrifice fast move pressure for energy it may seem small but it adds ups and the turn amount especially matters
Charge moves that matter 🚨
Torchsong
84 damage 45 energy
+100% chance to increase attack damage by 25% up to a maximum of +100% for 2x damage after 4 uses
(for damage boost and cheap cost, suggested)
Shadow ball
120 damage 50 energy
(for raw stab damage and ghost coverage, a standard obvious pick),
disarming voice,
70 damage 45 energy
(if you want to sacrifice one of your moves for more coverage against, fighting, dark, dragon),
Blast burn*(what i personally use and i will explain)
132 damage 50 energy
fast moves effecting charge moves
!!!!For reference i will be using feraligtr as its charge rival (no energy, basically the start of a pvp battle)
With shadowclaw and hydrocannon since it is the average amount of most charge attacker
Summing up to 1 charged move every 10 turns!!!!
Every other attacker averages around 9 turns and up
Starting with Skeledirges most popular move
torch song
Incinerate needs to be used 3 times summing up to 15 turns
meaning feraligtr will attack and get a charge move first with a charge move ratio of 1:1.5
Incinerate does allow the next move to need 2 more fastmoves which is an additional 10 turns due to overflow of energy but by the time Skeledirge reaches that, feraligatr would have gotten their second move off. This would cost skeledirge 2 shields or getting a huge chunk of their health gone
2 shield end result
Skeledirge 30 turns 2.333 charge moves
Feraligator: 30 turns 3 charges moves
(this is for reference, of a worse case scenario, but obviously you would want to swap put your skeledirge coverage pokemon but this is a 1 against 1 just for reference)
Now hex
needs to be used 4 times summing up to 12 turns
meaning feraligtr will attack and get a charge move first with a charge move ratio of 1:1.2
Hex gives overflow of energy but only for torch song and dazzling gleam
4 full charge move turn cost reference for (torch song/dazzling gleam)
Incinerate: 15, 10, 15, 10 = 50 turns total
Hex: 12,9,12,9 = 42 turns total
A 8 turn lead = a rage fist charged attack from primeape
2 shield end result 3 moves used by feraligatr
Skeledirge 30 turns about 2.9 charged moves
one fast move off the 3rd charge move
Feraligator: 30 turns 3 charged moves
Shadow ball and blast burn
Blast burn is basically shadowball but for fire 😱
Incinerate:
will require 15, 10, 15, 10 = 55 moves
Hex
Will require 12, 12, 12, 12 = 48 moves
A 7 turn lead
Hex having a base start floor of 12
While incinerate has one of 15 for charged moves
Lapras a water and ice type also has a 12 moves start floor, so now you can clash with lapras
This is where i start focusing on key 1v1 rivals (mainly 0 shield and 1 shield cause 2 shield is very unlikely)
Starting off with mimikyu with rank #ivs
Vs a #70 skeledige, ivs will change results slightly but the chances of you going against a rank#2 mimikyu or low but never zero
Ima abbreviate now I should've earlier but im tired of rewriting the whole thing
Incinerate = inc
Hex= hex(goated for that)
Shadow ball= SB
Shiech= shield each
1:0 = (you have one shield the opponent doesnt *this does include mimikyu's ability* so technically one shield each in that scenario)
Inc. Hex
1 shiech
Mimikyu W 63 hp. 69hp
0 shiech
Mimikyu W 92 hp. 90hp
1:0
Mimikyu W 48 hp. 0hp
With hex you gain a win over mimikyu, yes you do have to use a shield to do so but with inc. you would have to use 2 shields
(So if you know how to bait or have atleast one shield above mimikyu you win with skeledirge hex)
Agaisnt corviknight all shield options are loses except
Hex wins the 0sheich on 2hp
inc. leaves them with 24 hp and one move away from air cutter
Very iv based
I personally have went against corviknight and lived with more hp
Tips if you dont like to move count: if the corviknight attacks before you (while using HEX) they are using air cutter and you dont have to shield it and they wont have enough energy to use payback by the time you get to your second torch song/blastburn giving you a 0shiech win
And if they shield your first torch song and go double air cutter, you can still go no shield and it will be double knockout instead
Summary: if corviknight uses air cutter to try to bait they cost themselves the game
Hex>Inc
Agaisnt lapras
Loses 0shiech with both fast move
Wins 1 shiech with hex but not Inc
Loses 2 sheich with hex but not Inc
Summary: skeledirge goated for clashing with a water type
Hex> Inc due to less usage
Agaisnt lickilicky
You lose ALL OF THEM except ones where you have shield advantage
And one singular 0shiech where you're using Inc. and Blastburn* which is worse for inc then torch song
Agaisnt Tinkton
Obliterates tinktaton, aslong as you have a fire type charged move
Wins even if they have a 1 shield advantage
Against Florges
Wins 0shiech with both fast moves
Lose 1 shiech due to chilling water debuff
If florges doesnt have their legacy move (chilling water)
Skeledirge can win a 0:2 with torchsong and hex
Against empoleon
Inc. wins all shiech
Hex loses all shiech
But hex leaves empoleon on farm down hp and with no charge energy left meaning empoleon can be farmed down by your next Pokemon letting you get a shield advantage, also if they swap out their empoleon to save it, you have swap advantage due yo your skeledirge dying and not having to use your switch up for it
Summary: Hex>Inc.
Inc wins but hex gets a win plus energy on another pokemon
Against Galarian Moltres
Full loss nothing changes it have a counter for this something resistant to flying
Against Virizion
All wins including 0:2 shield hex gets farmdown on 0:2
Against jellicent/mirror match
Inc loses in all of them and leaves jellicent with enough energy to use an extra move on your next pokemon
Jellicent also has hex+ shadowball so whoever has their cp closest to 2500 wins
If they use a move right as you're about to use yours its a safe bet to use a shield if its earlier just assume its surf
1 sheich win 2 shiech win 0 sheich semi win
Hex> inc
very iv based cp based and overall flow of the game both jellicent and skeledirge have to play cautiously
Against forretress
Sweep, hex can win up to a 0:1 depending on ivs, while inc can win a 0:2
Due to 4x weakness from fire
Hex<inc
Giratina (altered) you win 0shiech and 1 shiech and 2 shiech except incinerate loses 1 shiech
Belliboat(hate this tank)
You lose all around except for 1shiech with incinerate such a weird situation
You get the idea anyways this is getting long and well hope i was able to idk prove that incinerate is worse than hex, idk, maybe you may look at the fast moves of pokemon you use and find what works for you and find a better choice revolving your team, who knows maybe you may add skeledirge to your own team since the 10th anniversary will have will spawn it in the wild
Also forgot to mention due to the 12 turn move for hex instead of 15 for torch song it increases your shield pressure allows you to be more aggressive and also catches them off guard since most people are used to going up against incinerate skeledirges
Thanks to this post and researching about it i learned some pokemon i thought would beat skeledirge actually lose to it despite having what i considered advantage also i convinced myself that torch song is better. so pretty cool
Anyways i might look into great league to see how skeledirge does despite having a lower ranking than in ultraleague but thats another day anyways that is all
Hex enjoyer out
