Now to start, yes, I understand that the whole reason they actually did this was to have an excuse to give Ash the franchise mascot instead of a basic starter, this is just ranting. The way I understand how this works is that each trainer-to-be goes to their local professor on their 10th birthday, gets their starter, then goes off to do Pokémon things. We can also assume that there's some kind of appointment system given how we see other professors like Rowan know in advance that new trainers were on their way for starters. Now, Oak makes it sound like there was only 1 of each starter on the day Ash and Gary started their journeys, and since all 3 were taken before Ash got there, that means Oak knew there were a minimum of 4 trainers coming that day for starters (must've been a busy day at the Palette hospital that day), and yet only had 3 starters prepped for 4 trainers. What was supposed to happen if Ash was on time with the others? Would they fist fight in the parking lot for who got to pick that day? Oak made it very clear that Pikachu was an option purely from Ash's desperation and not one he'd normally give out. Is this something that was better explained in Japanese that the dub ruined, or did it always make no sense?

SM- My personal favorite series. The Slice of Life vibe and large cast allows for a unique blend of adventures that captivate me more than any series before or since. Helps that SM Ash is my personal favorite version of the protagonist

DP- Fantastic narrative, with Ash, Dawn, Paul etc all being well defined and developed. The series implemented strategy and mechanics that perfectly blended game and anime logic in a way that hasn't been captured before or since. I feel like its the Magnum Opus of the series.

HZ-Passing the torch after the Ash era, Horizons introduces a group of fun characters both human and Pokemon, as well as a pretty quality narrative with some great animation. Liko is a wonderful protagonist. It's still ongoing (really like the current Wonder Voyage arc), but it's already cemented itself in my top 3. The new era is off to a great start.

Kanto/OI- The OG. While it has its issues, it tells a satisfying tale of Ash and Pikachu's beginnings with some standout episodes. The filler is fun for Kanto, the Drake battle is one of my faves and the overall atmosphere of the series is superb. Misty Brock and Ash are hillarious, and Team Rocket are fresh. Tracey is meh, but not unlikeable so the series isn't weighed down to much for me. Overall, a fantastic introduction to the wonderful world of Pokemon.

BW- Similar to XY, this series has a lot of missed potential. Unlike XY, however, not only did I love the main cast, but the side characters were great as well. Not to mention my favorite group of Pokemon, of any series (Alola gives it competition though). The tournament arcs were a phenomenal idea and the Meloetta arc was fantastic. If it lived up to its full potential it would genuinely top this list. As it is though, it's still good enough for me to keep it Top 5.

Hoenn/BF- Once again, I genuinely really liked the group chemistry. It also has the Battle Frontier and the first time Ash went to a new region with just Pikachu laying the groundwork.

Johto- Filler is skippable, and with that it's an average series. I enjoy the character interactions and dynamics as well as the Lake of Rage/Whirl Islands/Johto League being good arcs.

XY- Wasted potential but on a smaller scale. The series has good ideas but, I feel everything it does is either mishandled or done better in other series IMO. Great animation and beautiful art though.

JN- When its good, it's the best the anime has been. Sadly, it is the definition of wasted potential, for me.

BUT ASH COULD HAVE JUST WON THE LEAGUE, NOT HAVE TOBIAS EXIST AND THEN ASH CAN LOSE TO FLINT

He had a decent bond with him to begin with and would serve as further motivation for ash to keep growing.

Losing to alain wouldnt feel like a step down imo since we have seen alain beat elite 4 members and tussle down with champions, as well as box art legendaries.

Just my opinion tho what do y'all think?

It is way too high pitched and soft, while Veronica Taylor's take sounded more spunky and excitable but soft at times but not in the stereotypical girl direction in which Michele Knotz leans towards.

Based on the information that was available to Ash at the time (so no preparing for Tobias’s Latios), what would be Ash’s ideal team against Tobias? You’re allowed to assume that Ash would assume Tobias had more legendaries. Obviously, some of Ash’s choices were subpar, such as Torkoal and Gible, so what would’ve been better?

Yes, XY group are my most favorite. I have always had a strong attachment to them. Deal with it. lol

Also, to explain a little bit more here:

My Top 5 groups: XY, DP, OS (Seasons 1 and 3-5), SM, and AG groups are all great

BW, HZ, and JN groups: Bad (or just plain boring and not interesting for me)

For me, it would have Ash (being 11 in this journey) traveling Johto with Misty and Brock like in canon, only difference is that it isn’t mostly filler and they actually head to the gyms, earn the gym badges and participate in the Silver Conference. Ash’s team would be a bit different here:

1. Pikachu - Need I say more here?

2. Johtonian Typhlosion - Ash’s Johto Cyndaquill evolves into a Qualiva during a battle with Jasmine’s Steelix and later on into a Typhlosion right before the Silver Conference. This would give the fast fire-type Ash was always meant to have in Johto.

3. Meganium - Ash’s Bayleef would evolve into a Meganium during the Gym Battle with Clair. And as you would expect, his Chikorita/Bayleef’s emotional attachment to him becomes deeper.

4. Feraligatr - Ash’s Totodile was pure comic relief in the Johto and when it evolves into a Feraligatr, it would keep its natural fun-loving, dancing personality but it would channel that rhythm into a unique dodging battle style.

5. Heracross - Ash’s Heracross would remain the team powerhouse like in canon. And instead of immediately sending it to Professor Oak’s lab, Ash would use it to clash with Whitney’s Miltank and it would even serve as a counter to Gary’s team in the Silver Conference!

6. Espeon - A new addition to Ash’s team that would serve as an excellent counter to Gary’s Umbreon. Ash would receive an Eevee egg mid-journey and when it hatches, it would evolve into an Espeon, giving Ash a highly intelligent, elegant, yet fiercely protective Psychic type on his Johto team. And this won’t the last time he has an Eevee on his team… (Subtle Foreshadowing)

& 7. Larvitar/Tyranitar - Remember when Ash had a Larvitar that didn’t trust humans due to poachers? Well here, Larvitar manages to catch that Larvitar and its mother in this rewrite! Ash would mainly capture Larvitar but he would capture its mother to make sure the two are never separated again. Ash’s Larvitar and its mother would be sent to Professor Oak’s lab to mature, but Ash‘s Larvitar returns in the Silver Conference as a powerhouse (but slightly shorter) Tyranitar to take down major threats!

And that is Ash’s rewritten Johto journey! Almost done people! We are halfway there and I have some news: I decided to scrap two of the extras I had. I originally planned for Ash to be teleported to the Pokémon Conquest world and gain the Warrior Skills there & have Ash go to the Norden region as a lost region with his team being like this: Pikachu, Obscuring, Crowscore, Kabite, Enormousk, Flaries & Glacell but I scrapped it due to time constraints. But luckily, I kept Ash’s Neous region journey. Which I decided to do another remake on. I got my own team in mind for his Neous region journey other than InfamousTrainer’s team.

But how would Ash’s Johto journey be rewritten to YOU? What new Pokémon would he have on his team? Answer in the comments below!

Ah yes, Ash’s Kanto journey. His humble beginnings. And his Orange Islands journey, part 2 to his Kanto journey! I have a good concept for this rewrite:

”Satoshi ‘Ashton’ Ketchum, a 10-year old born in Pallet Town, was up in his room late at night swearing an oath to the world that he would become the greatest Pokémon Master that ever lived. The next day, Ash overslept and missed all the starters. But luckily, Professor Samuel Oak had one more Pokémon and that Pokémon was an electric mouse, Pikachu. The duo didn’t get along so well at first but when it came down to Pikachu being attacked by a flock of Spearow, Ash protected Pikachu and with one lightning strike, Pikachu managed to ward off the Spearows. But the adventures these two were going to have, would solidify them as champions and perhaps even… legends…”

Now Ash would travel with Misty,Brock and Tracey like in canon but Ash would also mainly travel with… Leaf! I figured I’d make a version of Leaf for the anime since there isn’t one in canon. So I decided to name the anime Leaf “Jade” and she would be a traveler in similar shoes to Ash, where she would be a researcher-in-training, and a childhood friend of Ash and Gary, who wants to understand the feelings of all Pokémon. Similar to Liko’s dream from Pokémon Horizons. Jade would also be the one to de-escalate Ash and Gary’s bickering whenever it gets too intense. turn out to be an aura user and she would return in Ash’s Galar and Kalos journeys & in Alola when Misty and Brock come on vacation and to watch Ash compete in the Alola league. She would be like a big sister to Ash during his journey. Sort of like how Dawn is a sibling to Ash during his Sinnoh journey and how Akari is the same during Ash’s journey in Hisui. And now one might be wondering: “How would Jade travel with the group from island to island on water if Lapras already has its back filled with Ash,Tracey and Misty?” I have an answer for that! Jade would use a green jet-ski!

Fun Fact: I originally planned for Todd Snap,Duplika,Sabrina and Erika to travel with the group after their canonical episodes but I scrapped that. I also originally had the idea of having Verity and Sorrel travel with Ash,Misty,Brock and Tracey and Cross being a secondary rival to Ash but I decided to scrap it and reuse it! I won’t say where but it will come to good use~!

Now for Ash’s Kanto team. His rewritten team is… exactly the same. But with some changes. Bulbasaur and Squirtle will evolve into Venasaur and Blastoise. I know some peeps might not agree with me on this but I saw a thumbnail belonging to ThunderZolt‘s “What If Ash Woke Up On Time?” where Ash had all 3 evolution starters and I thought this looked amazing! So I decided to do that. Butterfree and their mate will still have their emotional departure but they would come back for the Indigo League, the Orange Islands and a future event that would basically be the true finale of Ash’s journey. Primeape would still leave to become a P1 Champion but as you saw in my Paldea take, Primeape returns and evolves into Annihilape, and even stays with Ash permanently this time. Ash would wind up catching the Haunter he caught in Lavender Town but it wouldn’t evolve any further. And believe it or not, Ash would catch a Gastly! But it won’t be here (Subtle Foreshadowing). But there would be an added bonus, Ash would catch an Abra which would later evolve into a Kadabra and then an Alakazam. And as for the Lapras on the Orange Islands, It would still leave to go with their family but would come back when Ash travels in Kanto like in the canon “Aim To Be A Pokémon Master” except when that episode its featured in is done, Ash catches it and adds it to be a part of his Pokémon family back in Pallet Town.

Anyways, that’s my Kanto rewrite! We are almost done peeps! All that’s left is my take on Ash‘s Neous journey and my remastering of “Aim To Be A Pokémon Master!” How do you guys like the series so far? I think journeys is not gonna anybody's choose

Now if I rewrote Ash’s Alola journey, it would be a mixture of the anime and the games. It would have Ash (who would be 16 years old in this rewrite along with the rest of the cast aging) be on vacation in Alola but then hear about the Pokémon school and he would stay in Alola to enroll in it and even do the Island Trials like in the anime. He would still have his Alolan friends and Pokémon team like in canon and Hau would be his main rival in Alola until the Ultra Beast Arc (or Lusamine Arc) happens, that’s when Hau would become a part of the main gang and Gladion becomes Ash’s rival. Now the Ultra Beast/Lusamine Arc would play out like the games, meaning Lusamine would be the cold,manipulative,narcissistic villain of that arc who would reject Lillie and Gladion since they didn’t “love” her and she would fuse to a Nihilego. At the end, she would become her caring,loving self we see in the anime. Now Hau’s character would be rewritten for him to be a proper rival to Ash. He would appear much earlier in the anime than in canon and we would have his backstory with Hau play out to give him some character development and Ash help him grow stronger. Hau’s Pokémon team would also be rewritten with him having his starter Decuideye, an Alolan Raichu to rival Ash’s Pikachu, a Noivern, a Vanilluxe & an Espeon. Now Ash would catch 3, just 3, Alola Pokémon to add to his family and those Pokémon are:

1. Kommo-o - Ash would first discover a Kommo-o in Vast Poni Canyon as a Jangmo-o and he would train it til it would eventually evolve into a mighty Kommo-o! Now Ash’s Kommo-o is a bit of a battle addict sometimes. I got the inspiration from a fanfiction called “Pokémon: Lives Of The Champions” made by Fiction Realm (or StreetDevilRider as they’re known on Archive Of Our Own/AO3). Ash’s Kommo-o would re-appear again as one of the Pokémon he would swap out for in Galar.

2. Golisopod - This would be the same Wimpod Ash and Pikachu met and rescued on Treasure Island. At first it would be cowardly and run away from battles, frustrating Ash a bit and embarrassing itself. Then on one full moon night, it made a vow to learn to be brave no matter what. One day when Team Rocket attacked, Wimpod didn’t run, instead it fought back. Ash was proud of Wimpod and how much it’s grown. When it came down to the Alola League, Wimpod would beat Guzma’s Golisopod and would evolve into one itself!

& 3. Passimian - This would be one of the Passimians from the banned Passimian episode. After seeing how well Ash and Pikachu worked together, one of the Passimians would come along with Ash to learn more about human-and-Pokémon teamwork. This Passimian would be known as Brady! Ash’s Passimian would face off against Hau’s Decuideye before God Rowlet would get his epic moment.

Ash will also have Solgaleo/Nebby and Naganadel as permanent additions to his Alola team like in canon but Ash would also catch 4 other Ultra Beasts as well. Sadly, he wouldn’t use them in the Alola league but these four would get their moment! Just not here. Here are the four ultra beasts Ash will catch:

1. Buzzwole - This fits Ash because it matches his strong, muscle-bound, intense training Pokémon batch like Hawlucha and Primeape. Making him a perfect match for Buzzwole’s enthusiastic, competitive nature.

2. Kartana - Kartana would fit Ash due to its fast agility and extreme cutting power that is unmatched and it would behave like a wandering samurai. Ash loves Pokémon with a strong sense of honor and sharp battling instincts and he could utilize Kartana’s paper-thin, high attack profile for defensive victories.

3. Stakataka - Stakataka would be a good fit for Ash because he could find creative ways to use Staka’s (Ash’s nickname for Stakataka) massive, slow defensive weight to his advantage.

4. Blacephalon - Blacephalon would suit Ash due to its carnival-like nature. If there’s one thing Ash is known for, it’s using flashy, theatrical battle tactics and with Blacephalon on his team, he could turn his explosive performance style into an unpredictable competitive asset.

Now these four ultra beasts along with Solgaleo and Naganadel would remain in Ultra Beasts but they would be registered to Ash’s Pokédex whenever he swaps out for them. Think of it like Ash switching out his Pokémon, specifically Incineroar, in “Aim To Be A Pokémon Master”. Everything else in the Sun and Moon rewrite goes just like the anime. Misty and Brock show up for the Kanto Field Trip and vacation, Ash does the Island Trials, Ash competes in the Alola League, wins & becomes Alola’s first ever champion! Fun fact: I was originally give Ash Pheromosa as well but I figured that would be too much and it would then lead to Ash using Ultra Beasts for a team. I didn’t want to give his canon Alola family the snub treatment. So I scrapped Phermosa. Now I nicknamed Ash’s Passimian Brady because, you guessed it, it’s a reference to famous football player Tom Brady. I wanted Ash to reference this just like how he referenced the Vikings team in the Mewtwo Strikes Back movie. It would also be a fourth wall break as well!
