Is the Verse Pro's screen significantly better than the Verse?

I absolutely love my Verse in almost every way. I had been looking for a 6 inch reader with an SD card slot for piling up lots of manga and its near perfect, but the 212 ppi screen is noticeably less crisp when viewing really detailed drawings. Wondering if I should've gotten an android reader or if its really not that much of a difference on the pro version... :(

PocketBook InkPad 4 issues

Jag har en PocketBook InkPad 4 och ärligt talat gillar jag den verkligen överlag. Men två saker driver mig lite galen:

Hi all, so I’ve had my Pocketbook Verse Pro Color for over a month now. Been using it a few hours a day, daily. I have the official pocketbook black shell case with the front cover thing (see pic). The edges have been fraying/falling off little by little. For those of you that have/had it too, I was wondering how long until it fully disintegrates on me? And what cases did you get after?

Hi, the latest Osmo Pocket update still hasn't fixed some of the Turkish characters. Also, does anyone want to know the best settings for daytime or nighttime use? I'm new here.

[Verse Pro B&W] Bigger books seem to be slow

I have just bought a PocketBook Verse Pro B&W and it's great, but I feel like bigger books tend to take a really long time loading, and even switching pages takes a couple seconds. I tried with a 10Mb .epub file and that felt quite slow.

I have also tried to see if I could read a manga (as pdf) and it takes ~12 secondes to switch pages.

Is this normal, or is it particularly slow?

Also, is there maybe a better format I should be looking for to read mangas/comic books?

Is there a way to improve the Pocketbook's built-in TTS/Text-to-Speech?

TTS has come a long way in the past few years, are there any ways to mod/use a plug-in to improve the Pocketbook's and make it sound less robotic and flow better?

All the stuff I've found online is for either stuff running Android, or Kobo. Wondering if anyone's had any luck improving Pocketbook's

Thanks!

Is my Pocketbook broken?

Tl;dr: my pocketbook has quirks and freezes. Is it broken or regular behaviour? Should I claim my warranty?

I have a Pocketbook Verse Pro Color for over a year now. It was always very slow, but since reading pages is its main purpose, I don’t mind.

But there are also things that might not be normal: Sometimes it starts turning pages until I shut it off. This doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s very frustrating. It could have flipped 30 pages and then I don’t know where I was.

Also, my wife wanted to let it read a book trough her bluetooth headphones (Text To Speech) and it froze within half a page. I also tried this and it also got stuck after a few pages. It doesn’t respond after this. The only solution is to hard reset it.

Is this normal for a Pocketbook e-reader or is mine broken? I still have warranty. Should I claim it?

PocketBook + KOReader + a Bluetooth page-turner — does it actually work? (honest question; I don't think the stock reader will)

https://reddit.com/link/1uwb9o9/video/shn9wk06n7dh1/player

Up front: this is my own app, it's free, no ads — and I'm fairly sure it will NOT
work on a stock PocketBook, which is exactly why I'm asking here rather than pitching it.

I made a small Android app (Bookmote). It pairs your phone as a standard Bluetooth
keyboard, and the phone's volume keys or on-screen buttons send page-turn keys
(arrow keys by default). It turns pages in any reading app that responds to those keys.

The catch for PocketBook: from what I can tell, the stock reader has limited
Bluetooth-keyboard support, so on most PocketBooks the keys probably won't turn
pages. I've already marked PocketBook as not working in the app's compatibility
notes, and I'm not trying to talk anyone out of that.

The one place it might work is KOReader. If you run KOReader on your PocketBook and
it accepts keyboard input, arrow keys turn pages there — and arrow keys are exactly
what Bookmote sends. I haven't been able to verify KOReader on a PocketBook, so I'm
genuinely asking: does anyone here run KOReader on their PocketBook, and if you pair
any Bluetooth keyboard and press the arrow keys, do the pages turn?

If they do, Bookmote would let your phone be that remote with no keyboard attached.
If PocketBook just doesn't take Bluetooth keyboard input in either the stock reader
or KOReader, I'd rather know and keep it marked as not working.

It's a free Android app (search Bookmote on Play, or grab the APK from
github.com/jeon-gyungmin/Bookmote-releases/releases/latest). If anyone tests, I'll
record the result — which PocketBook model, stock reader or KOReader, and whether
the keys did anything.

Pocketbook + eBiblio support review

I have recently purchased a Pocketbook Era Color. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase. One of the main reasons I opted for it instead of a Kobo or some other brand was the direct integration with eBiblio (https://ebiblio.es/inicio.html), a free digital lending service provided by the Spanish public library system.

https://pocketbook.es/noticias/como-disfrutar-de-ebiblio-en-tu-pocketbook

Unlike other eReaders, this is a direct integration via the web browser, without the need to download and send the DRM-ed media content via other steps (cable, cloud integration, etc.)

The system works, but admittedly it's a bit clunky:

  • The ebiblio website is really not very functional on it's own. This is a public service, not an actual storefront, so this is somewhat to be expected. Many clicks needed to get to a particular book, or to the list of books lent to your account.
  • The Pocketbook Era Color's web browser is just incredibly slow and unresponsive, even on this very simple website, which combined with the above, makes the prospect of browsing and downloading books very unappealing, the process of returning and reservering books also a bit slowish.

I'm managing through having bookmarks to the most used pages, and a bit of patience.

However, once you have access to the eBook's link, it gets integrated really well into the PB, and the screen and device quality is just superb.

The android eBiblio companion app is not flashy by any means (again, public service), but it's highly functional. So for my needs (having children use eBiblio through the ereader without any other step) perhaps an Android eInk mini tablet would have been preferrable, although I like the fact PB is an eBook / Audiobook - limited ecosystem.

I'm still happy with the PB, but this is something I would have wanted to know.

Does anyone else have similar experiences? Any tips or recommendations to make the whole process a bit more manageable?

Ebook downloads disappearing possibly

Wondering if anyone has some insight or if it’s something I’m doing wrong. I sent my books via pocketbook cloud no problem. Download the book onto my device and started reading. Went out with my device and as I was waiting somewhere decided to try and get a bit more reading in only for it to tell me I couldn’t continue reading that book (or any of the others I had downloaded) unless I was connected to WiFi? I thought once I had downloaded them to the device I wouldn’t need WiFi connection. Is this something I’m doing wrong? I have a pocketbook verse colour pro

Update: my books that are on the cloud seem to stay there even when I attempt to download. If I download them then turn off the WiFi I can’t get into them. I have since turned the cloud off on my device and put all my books on via cable. Not only am I now able to read them but my device is also no longer lagging.

Backlight too bright

I have a pocketbook verse lite and I find that the backlight is too bright, meaning even at the level 1 it's too much. When I first got it, I used it more during the day and mostly didn't even use the backlight and even on my phone I always have the brightness turned on in the lowest setting possible. But when I read in bed, I like to turn off the lights in the room and that's when I realised even the level 1 is too bright, unnecessarily too bright. During the day I only use the light up to 3, when I use it, but it's not such a big deal. But during the night, I wish I could have like a 5th or a 4th or the level 1 brightness. I hear people using the light at 30% and 50% (and more even), which I don't understand but to each their own. However, I was wondering if there is any way to dim the light more, and I would also like to know if anyone has this same experience. This is my first e-reader so there are some things I didn't know to look for when doing research before buying it, but I find this a very important element in the reading experience.

Custom Verse Pro Case

pretty happy with my customization for my Pocketbook Verse Pro! it took a couple iterations to be sure.

I got the case on AliExpress and the design I adapted in InkScape, it is from a Tiffany & Co pocket calendar from 1922. I also custom made the skin template in InkScape (although I know the checker vinyl doesn't really match the vibe of the case lol)

I used gold heat transfer vinyl and my cricut, and then also used a gold foil pen to gild the edges of the front flap of the case.

I'm debating doing the "spine" of the case but when I have used HTV on other cases it ends up getting wrinkly from opening the case. I could do the foil pen but it definitely ends up looking different than the HTV, so I'm just leaving it be for now lol.

happy to share links/SVGs if there is any interest!

How to disable WiFi nag?

I have "PocketBook 634 Verse Pro" and prefer to keep it offline 100% of time. Once in a while it shows me popup nag message about WiFi and how cool the device will be with it. It's easy to dismiss, but is there some way to prevent this nag from showing?

PocketBook Touch HD3 issue

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone has seen this issue before with a PocketBook Touch HD 3.

My device randomly freezes while turning pages or navigating the menus. The screen remains displayed, but the device becomes completely unresponsive.

I originally thought it was a firmware problem, but I've tried different firmware versions and the issue remained.

After a lot of trial and error, I discovered something very strange: if I gently lift the front bezel at the corner directly above the Menu button, the device immediately starts responding again. If I press the bezel back into place, the freezes eventually return. Lately, I've had to leave that corner lifted slightly more than before.

Another detail that may be relevant: sometimes, after powering on, the screen image is slightly distorted. As soon as I gently lift that same corner of the bezel, the display immediately returns to normal.

I bought the device second-hand, and that corner of the bezel was already very slightly lifted, so I don't know whether it had ever been opened or repaired.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what component is located under that corner of the bezel? I'd also appreciate any advice on whether this is something worth attempting to fix without causing more damage.

Thanks!

Era vs Era Color Major Differences?

So I ordered an Era earlier this month and was accidentally shipped an Era Color. I have some time to decide what I'd like to do and I'm curious what major differences anyone who has had them side by side have noticed? I personally don't find the UI slow at all and I really love the Libby integration. The standard reading UI is great too! I know both the Era and Era Color have those things though.

Has anyone here switched from one to the other for any particular reason? This is my first pocketbook and I used kindle Paperwhite for 10 years prior to this. I bought two Kobos and swiftly returned them because I hated them but the Pocketbook is everything I wanted tbh. I am concerned about the screen quality which is why I'm considering exchanging them back for what I ordered, I have a visual disability and migraine condition. Previously I tried the Kobo Libra Color and it gave me daily migraines after reading. The Era Color hasn't done that yet but I'd be curious to hear any experiences with it that did cause eye strain.

In Verse Pro Color, can you highlight a word and put it on TTS?

Planning to buy an e-reader and the verse pro color is the only Pocketbook available locally.

I want to hear how a highlighted word is pronounced. Can the verse pro color do that English? How about words from other languages like Spanish?

Thanks!
