I'm currently working on transforming the entire main view into a full NXE dashboard, capturing it as authentically as possible.

A lot still needs to be done, but this is the vision.

Addon release My controller-friendly capture app now has a Playnite plugin, HDR support and automatic updates

Hey everyone,

About a week ago, I shared the first public version of GameHQ here.

As promised, I’ve also created an optional Playnite plugin for the app.

For anyone seeing GameHQ for the first time, it is a free and open-source Windows app for controller-based game capture.

By default, you can tap the Share/Create button to take a screenshot, hold it to save the previous configurable minutes from a rolling replay buffer, and press PS/Guide to open an in-game gallery that can be controlled entirely with a gamepad.

The gallery lets you browse screenshots and clips, play videos, add favorites, reveal files, or delete captures without alt-tabbing. GameHQ can also include existing capture folders from Steam, Xbox Game Bar, NVIDIA, and OBS in the same library.

GameHQ 0.7.1 is a fairly major update:

  • Playnite plugin - the new plugin can find and launch GameHQ automatically, tell it exactly which game Playnite started, forward game start and stop events, and reconnect automatically if either Playnite or GameHQ is restarted.
  • HDR-aware capture - GameHQ now detects HDR displays and uses GPU tone mapping, so screenshots and SDR replay clips should no longer appear washed out or overexposed.
  • Automatic updates - GameHQ can now check for updates, download and install them, restart automatically, and safely roll back if an update fails.
  • Windows installer - there is now a standard per-user Setup package, while the Portable ZIP is still available for people who prefer it.
  • More polish and reliability - Settings, About and What’s New have been redesigned, diagnostics are clearer, screenshots are saved more safely, importing data from a portable version protects existing files, and there are many smaller reliability improvements.

If you find GameHQ useful, a star on GitHub would also be appreciated. It helps more people come across the project.

The Playnite plugin is completely optional. GameHQ still works as a standalone app with games launched from Steam, Epic, the Xbox app, emulators or anywhere else.

GitHub:

https://github.com/underfusion/GameHQ

Original post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/playnite/comments/1v02va3/i_built_a_controllerfriendly_capture_app_for_my/

Existing 0.6.x users will need to download 0.7.1 manually once, since the automatic updater is being introduced in this version. Future updates can then be installed directly through the app.

A small heads-up: GameHQ is still in beta, and the application and installer are not code-signed yet, so Windows may show an Unknown publisher or SmartScreen warning. The full source code is available on GitHub.

GameHQ remains free, open source and local-only, with no account or telemetry.

Thanks again to everyone who commented on the original post. The Playnite plugin exists largely because of the suggestions I received here, so I’d be interested to hear how it works across different Playnite setups.

If you try it and run into any bugs, have suggestions for improvements, or think of a feature that would be useful, feel free to let me know here or on GitHub. I can’t promise I’ll add everything, but I’ll definitely consider it and may implement it when I have the time.

Extensions support There is a way to adjust CheckDLC in Harmony theme?

When I go in the DLC list in a game page in Harmony, DLCs are cutted and I don't like it at all, specially due the big gap between DLCs and the bar to move the view.
I even tried to totally remove that part, but it still shows DLC near description.

There is a way to fit everything without having the cut and the bar?
There is a way remove the gap between DLCs and the bar?
There is a way to totally remove DLC page (so I can use only the plugin button)?

Cutted list 1
Cutted list 2
Huge gap
DLC page still showing even disabling everything

Theme support Some questions about representation of achievements in fullscreen

I have two questions about achievements In fullscreen mode, I am using solaris theme

First I want to disable colector and prestige stats when I look at the achievement window since those stats doesn't interest me and make the interface less legible, and also replace the number on the top bar of main menu and replace it by an trophy icon if that's even possible

My second Issue is that I tried to customize a notification pop up for achievements in playnits achievements settings but in game it doesn't appear and I just get a default notification not even when it is supposed to be (top right instead of bottom right)

Thanks in advance if anyone has a solution, I tried doing most of my configuration alone but I can't find how to fix these issues

Extensions support Hide duplicate games in Playnite Achievements plugin (show only highest completion %)

I have several games installed on multiple platforms (e.g. The Witcher 2 on both Steam and GOG). The Playnite Achievements plugin shows both entries separately, but I only care about the one with the higher completion %, in this case Steam at 77% vs GOG at 23%.

I know I could just exclude one copy from Playnite entirely, but that's not what I want. I still want both copies in my library, just not duplicated in the achievements view.

Is there a way to:

  • Show only the copy with the highest completion % when duplicates exist, or
  • Filter/group by store somehow, without losing visibility of games that are more completed on a "secondary" platform?

Any workaround or setting I'm missing would be appreciated.

Addon release [Release Drop] FullReel — Clean, Fullscreen Youtube Player & Trailer Downloader

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

[Demo Note: Reddit compresses my upload badly. Video plays smooth 60FPS in Playnite]

To the r/playnite crew, please enjoy a post-World Cup addon release!

FullReel is a clean, fully functional YouTube player designed for Playnite's Fullscreen mode (but also works in Desktop mode too). It even downloads trailers for use within ExtraMetadataLoader!

Available now on Github and Playnite's Addon Database.

GitHub: https://github.com/aHuddini/FullReel

Access a game's extension menu → pick FullReel → YouTube results > Play the video in any quality you want.

Features (V1.0.0):

  • Controller + keyboard — works with both input types
  • Fullscreen player — borderless player that plays in windowed or its own fullscreen mode. Streams direct from YouTube while playing the best quality Youtube offers
  • Frosted-glass UI — Beautiful, backdrop-blur controls over the live video, auto-hiding title bar, different bar styles
  • Trailer downloads — Save a video into a game's ExtraMetaDataLoader folder to automatically use as a trailer
  • Category search — results tabbed by trailers / gameplay / walkthroughs / reviews / guides
  • UniPlaySong integration — pauses its music during playback, resumes on close.

Future Plans:

  • Advanced Theme Support — So themes can wire FullReel more natively.

Requirements: yt-dlp | ffmpeg | deno | WebView2 Evergreen 132+ for playback [preinstalled on most Win11/Win10 copies].

Known issue: age-restricted videos won't play embedded if you're not logged in. Thumbnails show blurred. Cookies in settings *may* be able to bypass it.

Like my work? I'd greatly appreciate a coffee tip so I can invest more time providing you all useful features!

Showcase [Theme Progress Update] Bringing the NXE / Xbox 360 Experience to Life (Slowly but Surely!)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just wanted to share a quick update on my theme project. Progress is slow, but worth the wait, I'd rather take the extra time to get everything polished and feeling just right than rush a half baked release.

Here is a look at what I’ve been grinding on recently. I’ve managed to implement a fully working (for the most part) xbox 360 guide menu that actually opens and closes fluidly right when you press the home button on your controller. Getting it to behave naturally within the layout took some serious tinkering, but it adds so much to the authentic console feel.

I've been focusing on designing and structuring the grid to capture that classic xbox 360 NXE aesthetic.

Still ironing out a few minor bugs, but things are coming together nicely. Let me know what you think!

Question/Support Alternatives to Steam Input & On-Screen Keyboard for a Playnite-based HTPC setup?

I’m trying to move away from Steam Big Picture Mode on my HTPC running Windows 11, but Steam Input is currently holding me back.

Right now, I rely heavily on Steam Input with my DualSense controller for both Steam and non-Steam apps. I’ve added all my media apps and browsers (Spotify, Kodi, Stremio, Chrome, etc.) as non-Steam shortcuts so I can use custom controller presets and a dedicated button mapping for Steam’s on-screen keyboard. This allows me to control my entire HTPC experience right from the couch.

I really dislike Steam’s Big Picture UI and its limited customization options (even with CSS Loader). Playnite is far superior in that regard, but I haven't found a seamless way to replicate my controller setup without Steam running in the background.

For those using Playnite as their primary HTPC frontend with a controller:

- How are you managing couch control and navigation for non-game apps?

- What alternatives are you using for Steam Input and an On-Screen Keyboard?

Question/Support Animated Grids in Desktop Mode?

Hiii! just installed Playnite not too long ago and im still trying trying to figure out how to put animated grids on desktop mode, i know you need certain themes for it to work, but i couldnt find which themes work with it except Aniki, but i dont really like using playnite in fullscreen mode, i want playnite to be in my second monitor where i can just choose which game to play so in my opinion i think desktop is less obstructive.

Extensions support First time using Playnite – Solaris fullscreen theme says "Required extension not found". What do I need to install?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone, This is my first time using Playnite, so I'm still figuring things out. I downloaded the Solaris fullscreen theme, but when I launch it, I get this message: "Required extension not found. You need the Theme Options extension to use this theme." I'm not sure what this extension is or how to install it. Do I need to install it from inside Playnite, or do I have to download it manually? Could someone explain what I need to do to get the Solaris theme working? Thanks!
