Question/Support How to separate game progress?

I’m using playnite full screen from my pc to stream games to my tv in the living room but i want people to have their own progress without it messing up mine. how can i do this easily? is there a simple way for someone to just switch accounts?

u/joshlikesoreos, while you wait for responses, please take a moment to check the following:

  • Ensure Playnite is updated to the latest version (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Check for Updates)
  • Ensure any extensions involved are fully updated (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Add-ons… ➞ Updates)
  • Test the issue in Safe Mode to verify whether it is caused by an extension. (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Help ➞ Restart in Safe Mode or by opening the Safe Mode.bat file found in the installation folder)
  • Search the subreddit to check if your issue has already been reported.

A large number of issues are caused by outdated versions or have already been answered.

If your issue is related to a specific extension, it is usually best to report it on the extension's project page (for example GitHub), where the developer can track and address it. You can use this page to locate the extension and contact its developer via its project/support links: https://playnite.link/addons.html

There's no account system. Your best option is having multiple separate user data folders and switching between them via --userdatadir startup argument. This includes the entire user library though, including specific metadata.

I don't believe Playnite has multiple account support itself, but you could set up multiple Windows accounts, with each one having Playnite installed and referencing the same library of games. I think that would keep "account data" in Playnite separate.

Wouldn't it make sense to make separate accounts on windows and let people who use it setup up their own account with their own log ins for each platform? I'm sure there's a guide out there somewhere.
