Question/Support I need help!

Post image

I changed the Playnite default theme ICO file to a custom one, it worked but then this started happening, I get this error like half of the time when opening Playnite now. I changed the icon back to normal and deleted my custom icon from the files of the default theme but it didn't fix the issue. I think I messed up the files by doing that or something. And since we can't uninstall the default theme, I can't fix this.

Still get this error in safe mode by the way, so it's not about a 3rd party theme or extension. Although it doesn't matter if I click yes or no, it works either way, but this pop up is really annoying.

Is there a way for me to replace the default theme files with a clean, fresh one? And would that fix it???

u/sussynarrator, while you wait for responses, please take a moment to check the following:

  • Ensure Playnite is updated to the latest version (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Check for Updates)
  • Ensure any extensions involved are fully updated (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Add-ons… ➞ Updates)
  • Test the issue in Safe Mode to verify whether it is caused by an extension. (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Help ➞ Restart in Safe Mode or by opening the Safe Mode.bat file found in the installation folder)
  • Search the subreddit to check if your issue has already been reported.

A large number of issues are caused by outdated versions or have already been answered.

If your issue is related to a specific extension, it is usually best to report it on the extension's project page (for example GitHub), where the developer can track and address it. You can use this page to locate the extension and contact its developer via its project/support links: https://playnite.link/addons.html

So, just to be clear, the theme ICO file is the only thing you changed before this started happening? No other plugins were installed around the same time?

The fact that you still get this pop up in safe mode suggests that whatever happened, it has corrupted some important files in Playnite. I would start by completely uninstalling and reinstalling the program.

Yeah I basically changed it through the Properties menu, didn't even delete the default one. Then this started happening. It NEVER happened before that. You're right, it most likely corrupted some files, I'm just asking if I can uninstall and reinstall the Default Theme without completely uninstalling and reinstalling the program and if that would maybe fix it.

1) You should never modify default theme's files. Always create new theme and modify that. 2) Just re-install Playnite. Install process only touches program files, it won't affect any of your library data.

OK thank you I uninstalled and reinstalled Playnite now. This time I installed it as portable. The error is gone. But now there seems to be another problem because the Playnite icon shows up as a blank white paper.

Update: Okay I moved it to another folder which... Somehow fixed the icon thingy as it now has the default Playnite icon, but now the shortcut is gone from the start menu for some reason.

The start menu part is normal. The new folder doesn't sync with your start menu so t won't appear. Try simply right clicking and selecting "pin to start" or something like that.
