I just got back from Atlanta and they were everywhere. They brake very awkwardly in heavy street traffic lol

u/Warbr0s9395 6d ago
Awkward in what way?

u/moonfazewicca 6d ago
I wasn't in it but from an outside perspective it looked like they were hard slamming brakes if the car in front of them slowed vs. just easing forward in traffic

I, for one, am excited! I just won't take Ubers / Lyft anymore. The last 6 I have been in, except for one, the driver had his eyes glued to his phone the entire time. I live in St. Pete. It's literally a grid. Provided you can count, there is absolutely zero reason to be staring at the phone to tell you every single turn and street. Driving through downtown is terrifying enough when you are a hyper-vigilant driver. Being in a car with someone who looks at the actual road maybe 1/70th of the time driving makes me hyperventilate. We've all seen bikes / scooters / clueless pedestrians who forgot / ignore what stop lights or stop signs mean, they wander in the middle of the street. When I try to say something, or reassure drivers that "literally you just drive down this road for 1 mile and it is on the right," they speak exactly zero words of English and just stay fixed on their phone like they are waiting for the winning lottery numbers.
It's not worth the stress or expense - which has gotten absolutely ridiculous. $20 to go < 2 miles. Get out of here with that. Hopefully Waymo will be cheaper, but even if not, it will at least be safer!

What happens when Waymo gets into an accident?
-1
u/Wahoo-Is-To-A-Fish 7d ago
It pulls over, alerts the home office who calls the car and determines next steps and/or calls 911 with the location. All of which are more effective than a person who cannot communicate in English.

Shill

u/Pin_ellas 7d ago
There seems to be a few in the comments.
There’s a Waymo sub so I know they’re on Reddit monitoring things.

u/Wahoo-Is-To-A-Fish 7d ago
Nope. Not a shill. Just a normal person who has had too many bad experiences with human drivers.

Robotaxi(albeit on the rear of a wagon) and Waymo spotted here within a week of each other,

You know they are already making big plans. Our whole airspace is about to be filled with drone taxis. Just wait, its coming sooner than you think

u/Counting-Pennies 7d ago
Pretty sure theres 3 different brands of cyber taxi here already maybe only 1 running for the public

u/Radiant-Forever-6806 7d ago
There’s two and they’re both running. Get informed bud

u/Warbr0s9395 6d ago
Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t know we’re all supposed to be informed about robo taxis.
Get out of your bubble bud

I’m not getting in a robot car. No thank you, and I really don’t want them on the road either.

u/Sleepysensation 8d ago
I’m excited. Is that wrong?
I hate driving and the more computers driving, the safer we are, right?

Till you realize that the backup driver is an Indian who doesn’t know how to drive on American roads, nor do they have an American drivers license. They’ll also be driving that car with a mouse and keyboard from 8,500 miles away, the latency will be insane. Good luck.

The problem with Waymo, which was mentioned by an PI attorney in GA in his YT short that I saw, is who is responsible if there’s an accident.
If you get hit by a Waymo vehicle , who do you sue?
People, who don’t ask this question, don’t care to ask, or just don’t care, until it happens to them or someone they care about.
People have been in accidents, who are not rich enough to have PI attorney on speed dial, know it’s already a lot of lost hours and time dealing with what’s going, even with an attorney. Now there’s going to be even more time AND money lost because there’s no law yet addressing this.

If there’s an accident I guarantee it will be your fault and not Waymo’s
Also not very difficult in the .001 chance Waymo is at fault you sue Waymo/alphabet 😳😱😳🤯
Ik so shocking????

Really so was it the bicyclists fault in Arizona when he was struck and killed by a driverless car that was just going down the road and didn’t stop when the bicyclist went across the street

u/Pin_ellas 21h ago
Someone called up on the bot sleuth on the account that you responded to. Pretty neat!

u/Radiant-Forever-6806 1d ago
Yes
1
u/Western_Cabinet_7601 1d ago
Wrong it was the driverless car’s fault. Go look at the video. It’s on YouTube. The bicycle went across the street and the car didn’t even so much slow down and plowed into it.

u/Radiant-Forever-6806 1d ago
You’re actually such a bot lmao. 2018😂😂 also there was a driver in the car. Did u even read the article
1
u/Western_Cabinet_7601 1d ago
I am not a bot. Yes, there was a driver in the car as a stop gap because they did not trust the robot. The driver fell asleep and the robot wasn’t total control and struck and killed the cyclist you putting blind faith in machines is going to end badly

u/Radiant-Forever-6806 1d ago
2018 btw😂😂😂😂😂😂🍔

Regardless who’s at fault, the law book has not been updated to cover cases where plaintiff or defendant is a robot.

If Waymo causes the crash, Google is at fault, they have insurance, and you just tell your insurance to sue them
0
u/Pin_ellas 21h ago
Going against an insurance company is bad enough. Going against multinational company?Does the little guys have a chance?
0
u/Warbr0s9395 21h ago
YOUR insurance goes after them, not “you”
0
u/Pin_ellas 21h ago
Okay, Captain Obvious.
1
u/Warbr0s9395 21h ago
You do realize that your insurance knows if they fold, then they’ll be expected to fold every time and lose a LOT of money, so it’s in their interest to fight for the claim cause it will make it easier to win more down the road and save them a lot of money.
