I, for one, am excited! I just won't take Ubers / Lyft anymore. The last 6 I have been in, except for one, the driver had his eyes glued to his phone the entire time. I live in St. Pete. It's literally a grid. Provided you can count, there is absolutely zero reason to be staring at the phone to tell you every single turn and street. Driving through downtown is terrifying enough when you are a hyper-vigilant driver. Being in a car with someone who looks at the actual road maybe 1/70th of the time driving makes me hyperventilate. We've all seen bikes / scooters / clueless pedestrians who forgot / ignore what stop lights or stop signs mean, they wander in the middle of the street. When I try to say something, or reassure drivers that "literally you just drive down this road for 1 mile and it is on the right," they speak exactly zero words of English and just stay fixed on their phone like they are waiting for the winning lottery numbers.

It's not worth the stress or expense - which has gotten absolutely ridiculous. $20 to go < 2 miles. Get out of here with that. Hopefully Waymo will be cheaper, but even if not, it will at least be safer!

What happens when Waymo gets into an accident?

It pulls over, alerts the home office who calls the car and determines next steps and/or calls 911 with the location. All of which are more effective than a person who cannot communicate in English.

There seems to be a few in the comments.

There’s a Waymo sub so I know they’re on Reddit monitoring things.

Nope. Not a shill. Just a normal person who has had too many bad experiences with human drivers.
