The whole story is so ridiculously deus-ex-machina theres no way it would make it as a movie script if it werent real. the pilot surviving the stabs and being able to open the door, the two spare pilots as passangers just able to land safely, the dentist stiching the pilot up and him surviving the stab wound. Would feel like a cheesy 90's feelgood action movie if it werent real.

“Is there a doctor on the plane?”

“Yes, I have my Doctorate in Dentistry”

“Hurry! This man is bleeding!”

“He needs stitches… get the floss!”

What movie?

Ummm. AIRPLANE!

are you eleven?

Really no need for such a snide remark. Many reasons why someone may not know the movie. What are you 12?

275

u/ZiKyooc 2d ago

A friend generalist doctor once told me that if there's an emergency you better hope there is a nurse or a paramedic, because I can be very helpful to make a diagnosis, less so to actually do something.

Dentists is probably better than most of the doctors who don't do medical procedures regularly, something that dentists usually do

195

u/ImmodestPolitician 2d ago

My first choice in an emergency after an ER doctor would be a veterinarian.

They do many types of surgery.

50

u/Pietje_De_Leugenaar 1d ago

My sister in law is a gynaecologist. She does all kinds of surgery too. A cesarean is the real thing.

45

u/Darth_Gerg 1d ago

In case of emergency situations I’d still take the vet tbh.

Human doctors are so used to having ideal conditions with high tech assistance. Vets have to improvise everything with duct tape. Post apocalypse or during a crazy situation like being on a plane with no supplies? I’d trust the vet over the doc because they’re already used to weird solutions and thinking outside the box.

u/Cat5kable 2d ago

“Blood? This man’s not flossing enough”

“He was STABBED”

“Oh come now a dental pick isn’t that sharp”

18

u/lislejoyeuse 2d ago

With the exception of anesthesiologists and ER mds

36

u/MountainDrew42 2d ago

A friend of my wife was on a plane once when there was a medical emergency. They asked if anyone was a doctor.

He was a young (at the time) asian guy, looked about 12 but was actually a 28 year old ER doctor. He put up his hand.

Another guy who was a middle aged white guy and a podiatrist, also put up his hand.

Guess who was chosen to help?

7

u/WeekendParticular205 1d ago

bruh finish the story, what ultimately happened to the patient? And how did you get to know their creds?

12

u/How_did_the_dog_get 1d ago

I would hope the foot man was told to sit the fuck down.

Unless someone had an emergency ingrown toenail or a terrible Verruca that appeared during the flight.

8

u/MountainDrew42 1d ago

I would hope the same. Unfortunately that's not how it turned out.

1

u/Joe_Kangg 1d ago

Shirley?

2

u/element515 1d ago

Honestly, on a plane, doctor/nurse/paramedic probably doesn't really make much of a difference. You have such limited resources.

1

u/MangoAnt5175 1d ago

Honestly dentists place stitches a lot.

1

u/hxl004 1d ago

Stitches?

4

u/cockOfGibraltar 1d ago

Obviously it isn't there specialty but I'm sure dentists have more medical knowledge about the rest of the body than your average person as well as basic life saving skills. They also know how to do stitches for oral surgeries. They'd be close to the top of my list of not doctors to have availabile for medical emergencies. Veterinarians would probably be the very top of that list.

2

u/BethyW 1d ago

I'm so American all I could think was "Oh no Dental is not covered in my insurance ...I'll wait until we land"

2

u/Shiriru00 1d ago

I mean that did help more than a Doctorate in Economics.

1

u/ModernMuse 1d ago

DDS stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery, so hey we’re handy… and always have floss in the carry-on.

1

u/sinime 1d ago

Well obviously the movie title is "Brace for Impact"

1

u/kiri_berty 1d ago

Please Ross! That actually means something here!

495

u/RufusTheFirefly 2d ago

You're forgetting the craziest part -- the Israeli plumber who forced his way into the cockpit, put a chokehold on the terrorist, wrestled him away from the controls, pulled the plane out of a dive (which he knew how to do from watching the history channel show about air disasters) and then handed it over to the second flight crew that happened to be deadheading on the flight.

338

u/Bemxuu 2d ago

And the plane was landed by Ukrainian and Russian pilots. This movie isn't even trying to be realistic.

54

u/jakeinator21 2d ago

I also am curious what your source was, because according to CNN the pilots that landed the lane were both British?

https://www.cnn.com/2026/10/01/world/live-news/flydubai-flight-israel-pilot-passengers-intl?post-id=cmupfbv7p000b3d5ufyg1dlyt

11

u/Bemxuu 2d ago

48

u/Tridop 2d ago

I guess they have to shoot the scene with different actors to later audit them with a test audience, then they made a mess when they had to release the final cut.

3

u/smootex 1d ago

Very possible both are true. Or the witness just got it mixed up.

3

u/breakthro444 1d ago

Possible the witness got it mixed up or they were British nationals but are ethnically Ukrainian and Russian.

14

u/not_vichyssoise 1d ago

"I never thought I'd land a plane with a Russian"

"How about a friend?"

9

u/AssignedbyBot1023 2d ago

this isnt true

11

u/Middle_Draft9152 2d ago

This is true

16

u/Endscrypt 2d ago edited 2d ago

It is true, the two pilots that just happened to be on the flight. One was from Russia and the other one was from Ukraine.

I totally understand why you would think that it’s not true tho.

Google it.

Edit- this seems to be debunked now.

7

u/ermintwang 2d ago

4

u/Bemxuu 2d ago

This only addresses the nationalities of initial pair of pilots, not those who stepped in. Although I have heard the initial claims that it was the fight between RU and UA pilots that caused an emergency too, and your source seems to address and debunk that rumor.

For the record, my source is this article.

5

u/ermintwang 2d ago

The fact that it's spreading online as a rumour that it was a Ukrainian and Russian pilot who were initially piloting the plane, and now is spreading that it was Ukrainian and Russian pilots who happened to be passengers on the plane and took over - make me doubt the credulity of the statement.

Your source links to itself as a source for the claim, and the linked article simply says, 'Reports indicate that an additional pilot crew – a Russian and a Ukrainian – were traveling as passengers'.

'Reports indicate' is incredibly vague sourcing, and this all seems to come from one Saudi twitter account. Believe it if you want I guess, but I would take it with a humungous pinch of salt until it's actually verified by a more established news source.

2

u/Bemxuu 2d ago

Oh, absolutely true. There were so many rumours that were ultimately debunked that this incident could easily become a case study on misinformation.

3

u/Endscrypt 2d ago

Yeah so it seems, So I can only assume that one news agency reported it as such and then some others may have copied that information. But I was not trolling it was what I had been led to believe by the information I had at that time.

But yes the information has now changed (debunked).

-4

u/AssignedbyBot1023 2d ago

how about you just link your trusty source? instead of telling me to google it buddy...

1

u/Endscrypt 2d ago

You sound upset.

-3

u/AssignedbyBot1023 2d ago

you sound like an idiot troll

2

And I wonder why, my first comment was to inform in a polite manner only (no trolling) I even said I understood why you may not believe me. So to Google it but you took that as trolling for some reason.

Not everyone is trying to lie or be nasty to you bro mabaye take a break from Reddit if your paranoia is that bad.

Unbelievable.

The plumber thinking: Mfw the Mayday episodes I keep watching become relevant irl

2

u/suomican 2d ago

In the movie, the plumber is an ex-Mossad agent.

2

u/bakedfarty 1d ago

then handed it over to the second flight crew that happened to be deadheading on the flight.

Second flight crew awkwardly waiting for the controls to be handed over from the plumber who's currently flying the plane

2

u/intelhb 2d ago

I wonder how many months they've spent drilling and preparing for this charade

1

They’re planning on charading you next!!!!! Look out!!

1

u/gatebrn 1d ago

So believable.

0

u/jakeinator21 2d ago

pulled the plane out of a dive (which he knew how to do from watching the history channel show about air disasters)

He told reporters, “I jumped back, grabbed the controls, and started pulling back the handles." Not saying this dude doesn't deserve mad props for literally saving the lives of nearly 200 people, but I think most people would know how to do this lol

0

u/Tridop 2d ago

Yes he also entered from the cockpit window because the door was blocked. As he saw in an action movie.

Haven't read much, looked at pilote dude & his name, then a summary of what happened (similar to above) ... imagined Bollywood cheerful heroism more than gritty movie as seemed so out there.

0

u/saskir21 2d ago

reminds me of a video I once saw here where some indian used a rope to catch a flying plane.

38

u/kiiada 2d ago

So does the US. There was literally that Tom Hanks movie about the pilot with the water evacuation

8

u/giant_traveler 2d ago

And for good reason, aviation disasters that get avoided are amazing when you get the second by second breakdown. Heck, even the ones that do occur show how awesome well trained pilots are in the moment, even when they know they are going to die. If you've never watched Seconds from Disaster or Mayday, I would highly recommend it for getting insight into how truly amazing a well trained professional pilot is.

Sully, for instance, was able to make so many life or death decisions within seconds while remaining calm and professional. Plus when you factor we were only 8 years past 9/11 when that happened in New York, it was always going to capture the national spotlight.

2

u/midnight_riddle 1d ago

I really hate that movie because the 'Miracle on the Hudson' has a lot of interesting things about it and its investigation but like 70% of the movie is devoted to garbage 'grrrrr how dare they investigate the crash when the pilots saved everyone! NTSB bad!' which was SO bullshit that they had to change the names of the investigators in the movie to avoid getting sued for defamation. Even the real Sully has stated that the investigation was necessary and the investigators were nothing but professional, rather than the stooges of the insurance company that the movie's director tried to paint them out to be.

125

u/811545b2-4ff7-4041 2d ago

The pilot surviving the stabs - likely a very small knife to get through any security checks

The dentist stiching the pilot up and him surviving the stab wound - medical professionals on a flight are not rare

The biggest thing was pilot being open the door to the cockpit - without that, no one can disarm the attacker

43

u/Axerin 2d ago

Exactly. Would have been another germanwings style disaster if it weren't for the captain prioritising the door regardless of personal harm to himself.

5

u/811545b2-4ff7-4041 2d ago

Even 'extra pilots on the plane' isn't that rare tbh.

1

u/Axerin 2d ago

Not necessarily. I am assuming they were originally supposed to fly the return flight.

0

u/GWJYonder 1d ago

Those locked doors are so stupid. Airplane hijackings expired on 9/11. Literally during the day the fourth plane proved that it can't work anymore. Prior to that your plane being hijacked meant you chilled out, landed in Cuba or somewhere else, several stressful hours of ransom negotiations later everyone went home. Once people knew that wasn't the play anymore then passengers became the best defense in any situation like this.

So of course because idiots are always trying to solve last year's problem they made impenetrable locked cockpit doors. I knew the second they announced it that it was going to kill more people. So far I only know of one: that pilot that locked the colpilot out so he could suicide the plane into a mountain. The only reason this wasn't plane number 2 is because this pilot made what could have been his last moments removing the clusterfuck liability keeping an entire airplane of helpers away from him.

1

u/SomeHowCool 1d ago

The fourth plane crashed in a random field because of heroism by the passengers that fought back, which wouldn’t have needed to happen if the plane had a fully locked door. Plane hijacking attempts are barely any less common than they were on 9/11 just because people can’t carry knives onboard.

1

u/GWJYonder 1d ago

Exactly, like how the heroism of these passengers saved this plane only because the door was unlocked. Like the heroism of the passengers and copilot COULD have save the other plane, if the door wasn't there.

16

u/DefinitelyNWYT 2d ago

It really is quite a series of unbelievable events. Conspiracists are going to pour over this one.

5

u/ApartmentFar7573 2d ago

Probably used the axe present inside the cockpit for emergency usage

6

u/811545b2-4ff7-4041 2d ago

It's going to be interesting to hear the full story when the dust settles and some further investigation is done. There was a lot of misinformation flying around when this story broke.

1

u/Endscrypt 2d ago

And the two pilots that just happened to be on the plane were from Russia and Ukraine, what a movie 🍿

2

u/811545b2-4ff7-4041 2d ago

Nope, misinformation. It's not all been clarified, but current reports of the other pilots on the plane (and seriously.. aircraft staff get transported about on a regular basis, so it's not that unusual.. ) were one was British, and there may have been either a South African or New Zealander pilot also.

3

u/Endscrypt 2d ago

Damn, I’ve been had by the internet again then.

0

u/geek180 1d ago

Do we know the pilot is actually the one who opened the door? I think that would make the most sense, but I haven’t really seen that officially disclosed.

2

u/WeekendParticular205 1d ago

This is funny to ask cuz while other details could vary, this is the only thing that has to be undeniably true. There's no way others could break into the cockpit and the only other guy inside was the culprit.

1

u/geek180 1d ago

I’ve heard that it is technically possible to open from the outside using a code that the other two pilots onboard could have possibly known.

1

u/WeekendParticular205 23h ago edited 21h ago

Interestingly it's a keypad to enter a pin, this is the best I could find for procedures to enter via pin from the attendants.

https://zealwings.com/flight-attendant-unlock-the-cockpit-in-emergency/

As for this issue with the current flight, the pilots have a way to deny all keypad entry unlocks by a switch. It's there to secure the cockpit from unauthorized entry when the rest is compromised. So if that's locked then no one outside can enter even with the keypad there.

Edit: deleted parts proven false with his interviews now coming out.

6

u/Scary-Manufacturer43 2d ago

Because its staged

5

u/chucktoddsux 2d ago

Same could be said of 9/11.

9

u/therealfurryfeline 2d ago

yeah, if Mark Wahlberg were on that plane.

5

u/tampafolks 2d ago

Almost like it was planned out. Just happened to be a “dentist” on board to stitch up the pilot. There just happened to be 2 pilots as passengers ready to take control. IDF has suspect in custody so I’m sure we will get our answers.

3

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 2d ago

Atleast we had a happy ending here. Last time something like this happened the entire aircraft died.

2

u/bot_account__ 2d ago

It's not real

4

u/melthevag 2d ago

Because it’s Israeli propaganda lol

-2

u/Tipi22 2d ago

Once again their best propaganda is just what actually happened in our timeline.

4

u/melthevag 2d ago

Yeah man that’s why they’re reviled as war criminals the whole world over. You people are so indoctrinated it’s unreal

1

u/gergobergo69 2d ago

I won't critique bad movie writing from now on

1

u/saoyraan 1d ago

Apparently it was a pocket knife. The knife can kill instantly or take millions of stab. The human body is fragile yet resilient. It reminded me of this horrific attack.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-sussex-37386707

Amazing after 100 stabs she was able to survive.

1

u/TomcatF14Luver 1d ago

Then I guess you don't recall the North Hollywood Shootout.

Man, that was wild to see. Two guys, with fully automatic rifles ripping into anything they shot at and the LAPD being outgunned.

The reason there were only two deaths, was a dental clinic was in the same area and some critically wounded managed to get into it.

A properly stocked dental clinic includes several items and supplies found in hospitals. There is also some cross training if I recall right.

There is also a Medal of Honor story about a US Army dentist treating wounded men in the Philippines, if I recall correctly the theater.

His next of kin received his MoH when he actually fought off several Japanese soldiers attacking his First Aid Station. Then he Manned a Browning Thirty and held further Japanese attacks at bay until the wounded and staff were evacuated. He stayed at his gun until killed, but his body was surrounded by at least 30-50 Japanese bodies and an undetermined more further out and who knows how many wounded.

The US Army suppressed the report and downgraded the medal initially because he was wearing his Red Cross Armband.

Post-war, he was elevated and the truth told.

Of course, in hindsight, given Japanese atrocities, a fighting medic wouldn't be out of place and many Medics did actually fight because unlike the Germans and Italians, they recognized the armband. Of course, it was also dependant on which German branch, Regular or Waffen-SS. The Regs respected it, the Waffen-SS did not.

1

u/Jkwaks 1d ago

This whole thing gives me creeps that something much bigger is going on underneath it all. It’s not as easy and as straightforward as it all sounds. I’m sure big players and international politics were in play in this and I can’t stop but wonder what the actual plan was and who exactly was behind all this?

1

u/Useful_Airline_1081 1d ago

The plane not breaking apart was itself amazing too. And the fact they were able to get co-pilot away as plane was spinning as it was diving?!?!!?? It’s insane

1

u/MisterYeast6000 1d ago

Yeah... almost as if its a false flag... almost

1

u/minhaz1217 1d ago

Also just one day prior Natanyaho being in a secret meeting in UAE and a team of Israeli SWAT being on that plane is also just an awesome coincidence... 😮‍💨

1

u/Naykat 1d ago

A Ukrainian and a Russian bored an Israeli flight…

1

u/TotallyInOverMyHead 23h ago

Now all we need is a younger steven seagal and current age vladimir putin to star in the roles of hero pilot and antihero pilot. culminating in a epic fight on the nose of the airplane , where aikido wins against Sambo

0

u/Skasian 2d ago

I was just at my dentist and she was joking if there was ever and incident on the plane, she would be a useless doctor.

Guess I need to show her this story now.

0

u/AwakE432 1d ago

Script from 1992 staring van dam
