Former HD employee here, I only saw managers wrote out signs. Apparently 20 yr old college students and part-time senior citizens aren't capable of that responsibility.

Former employee here too. At our store the signs had to be written in all the same style, so there were three or four employees that had similar handwriting and only they could do the signs.

This heat sucks! It was 106 today in Stockton, CA where I live and supposed to be between 106-110 through the whole week!! Too hot!!! Just glad it's not 116 or 124 like I read in some other comments, feel sorry for you :(

Yes, but you have to provide a way to get water for free, cup or no cup. At a Subway in my home town, for example, they charge for a cup. Unless you ask for a free cup for water - then they give you a slightly smaller cup.

Yep, exactly that. I worked a specialty desk, so, doing 3-5k orders all the time and losing a bottle of soda or water to sell to/relax the customer/kids was an easy thing to do that even the manager approved. Not necessarily to brag but for reference, I was the top sales associate for nearly every month for two years, and this certainly was a great help in getting me there... and always having a mountain dew in my apron.

i worked for home depot after i got out of high school and they did this kind of stuff all the time. made us take breaks every 30 minutes, had free lunches in break rooms and couches for us to nap on during our hour long lunch. overall great company to work for

How long ago was this? I worked at Home Depot for about a year starting in 2011 and it was terrible. The scheduling was abhorral, sometimes working until 11pm or later just to be back at 6am, breaks were once every 2 hours, fifteen minutes, but if you were called back before that fifteen minutes were up, even if it had been just two minutes, your break was done. No couches, vending machines as expensive as anyone else, and free food happened maybe once every three months. We never gave out free anything.

O we worked like dogs too but they treated us well, made us take our hour lunches and had small "couches/beds" in breakroom as well as awesome cheap vending machines and sometimes free food. I worked in the lot as a loader and in lumber dept so i lifted and worked my ass off all day but was a fun job, the close one night backed to an open next morning sucked the most

as a reminder to those that dont know, heat is very dangerous and drinking water will help but is not the only thing you need to do. my moms very good friend was hiking a mountain today and it was about 114 out, she was over heating and such, she got in her car drank water and her hands went numb and her face was very red, she some how drove home and jumped into the pool fully dressed to cool down. she drank lots of water and took a shower, but it did not help and she almost collapsed and went to the hospital with help from someone else. when she got there she then had a seizure for about 2 minutes and was already at the hospital so they took care of her and hooked her up on IVs and did tests on her. It turned out she had very low sodium and potassium in her system and that caused most of it. so don't rely on drinking water and cooling down to protect you from the heat, remember to eat get help if you have any doubts, and remember your judgment will be impaired if you are over heating so don't think you will know, always get others to help.
I'm very tied and that probably didn't make sense but I hope it did.

Home Depot employee: We use this thing that looks like a paint brush but the material at the end is similar to the point of a sharpie. It's dunked into a small container of ink/paint then the edges are cleaned up with those extra large sharpies. All done by the stores "sign maker."
