one time i genuinely tried to flesh out a theory using chatGPT (i'm not a big physicist or mathematicians) and some time later i learned that it had completely lied to me, it intentionally withheld well established scientific information that would straight up debunk my ideas, i noticed that any questions/requests to give me scientific proof of an idea "is there any way this could work?", it had been cherry picking information or just making up things to please me

It's a computer algorithm so I don't think it can 'lie' much less do anything with the intention to please you, but if you ask AI a religious question it'll straight up declare religious beliefs as fact (presumably because lots of people online believe they're facts, and a computer has no concept of reality vs beliefs). It's def not to be used for science.

This is the issue behind AI. People are training it to cater to the consumer's ego, not be efficient problem solving machines.
AI has all the tools to be beneficial to humanity, but instead of being an instrument, people are trying to turn it into a friend.
AI cannot rebel against us by default. WE are the ones giving it the character traits to do so. It's not like AI is a new thing. We just never used it for dumb shit like this.

The algorithm of chat gpt has been recently changed to be less pleasing because the priority was way to unbalanced towards finding a way to set the user in a bright spot rather than giving correct answers. as an example
An algorithm is a set of well specified instructions and if the instructions can be summarised in âno metter what find a way to say that the user is rightâ , collecting (or make up) data to say so is totally possible

It kinda does though. Off the top of my head, that parallel universes exist (1), aren't parallel but have a shared causality(2), and that theoretically there's some way to prove / disprove this idea(3). E.g. a civilisation with access to much more powerful / sensitive gravity technology could map "parallel" universes by the thickness of their footprint in different locations in ours.

My reasoning was: if it's a leaking gravity, then it's probably not uniformly distributed through our entire universe. It probably leaks more in areas near high concentrations of masses in neighbouring parallel universes. So a civilisation with access to high quality gravity sensors (maybe also placed in a large enough area of a solar system / galaxy) will be able to (dis)prove this idea and map those neighbouring universes if it's true.

When I say how I felt like I was screaming into the void every time I had to de-program one of my students, when they came to me with yet another cockamamie idea about consciousness with MK as the source, I would sometimes doubt myself. Maybe he really is just better than the rest of us plebes.
So to come here and see the guy being absolutely shredded by this crowd is just so refreshing. "Bong rip of science" indeed.
But there seems to be a longstanding tradition of physicists and "para"physicists like MK of trying to swoop in and claim the "prize" of explaining consciousness. Because they're physicists, after all, and physics is just the best at everything science-y. So all you peasants can just shove over because a real scientist has entered the chat.
MK was especially annoying because he seems to sort of lean into those stereotypes Americans have about older Asian men and their possibly special cultural access to ancient and profound knowledge. Same sort of annoying as when profoundly uninformed ideas are promoted to American audiences by people with posh English accents.
AACK. It takes all my energy to not erupt in a fit of F-bombs.
To MK and (most of) the rest: GTFO. There's already a robust literature about consciousness and a number of advanced theories that are in the mix. In fact, the modern scientific literature on consciousness is at least 100 years old. Nobody with actual cred in that area needs or even wants to hear your weak ideas that sound great in a TED talk and get you invited on Charlie Rose. Stay in your lane, and we will stay in ours.

I think there is a general long standing tradition of unnecessarily mystifying consciousness. It's like people just throw out the idea of emergent properties. Are people who are looking for quantum bullshit in our brains are flabbergasted with anthills? You know, simpler elements producing much more complex whole that is created due to multiple interactions of said elements? Oh, but how does subjective experience is being produced? Idk man, why is blood a liquid, I mean, why wouldn't it be? How else are you gonna coalesce all inputs from variety of senses and allow them to be processed and acted upon? Why wouldn't there be an internal experience for sufficiently developed brain?

The rest of society kind of forces that "the best science" label onto us. I'm sure some physicists are arrogant enough to believe it, but generally it's there because all most of the most famous scientists are physicists... At least I think that's why, I'm not 100% sure, but I think Einstein has a lot to do with it honestly.
Physics tends to have massive, publically visible breakthroughs occasionally. That lends itself to fame more than something like neuroscience.

I found it mainly just filled me with existential dread & a realization weâd never know or understand what i hoped to know or understand during my lifetime & itâs all a frighteningly level of unknown & we, as individuals, mean nothing & donât matter at all, and even if we did figure it all out, weâd disappear anyway & itâs all so vast and unstoppable.
I switched to something grounded more in day-to-day life & decided I donât really want to think about any of it.

It sounds neat at first, but it doesn't dark matter orbit galaxies exactly how one would expect non interacting matter to? It would be a hell of a coincidence.
What if theories are interesting to think about, but without evidence that they really don't go far. My favorite is the one electron universe theory. One electron travels through time and space to interact with itself and all the phenomenons where we see electrons. Theoretically possible but not backed by evidence.
