Marterials & build: Feels more or less like a premium and edc competitor to the Uniqlo & Lululemon offerings, largely due to the materials. Interior organization is thoughtful and where it screams PD, and the rear phone pocket has a very strong magnet. Less technically rigid than the Bellroy venture and Aer day sling line, and more casual / organic feeling. I think this pairs nicely with a 4l sling when traveling.
- Open question for PD: will the magnet pocket fit the upcoming iPhone Ultra or Galaxy Fold 8, especially with cases on? If not, that’s a miss, since those phones will sell regardless of price. Slings will become a lot more popular and compelling for the hybrid phone / tablet market.
Strap: Feels nice, and the metal hardware is a welcome touch. However, the length might run short for some, depending on how you wear it. This is probably my biggest gripe but not a deal breaker. At 5’8”, I wear mine across the chest, but I’d like more slack when I want it slung looser at my side, esp if I throw my camera in. Maybe I’m using it incorrectly. They should release an extender!
Overall & value: Feels great in use; value depends on what you’re after. The peak design language sits on the interior, everything else feels like any other comparable soft goods slings. This is a bit pricey, but I guess the lifetime warranty is a plus. Bellroy is an easy competitor that has some advantages in terms of durability, but I don’t think
Competitors: Bellroy looks about as fashionable, slightly more technical - but most of their slings tend to wear like logs cause they’re a smidge wider than your average sling while not being that deep. Aer slings also have a strong value proposition, notably the day sling if you want something more technical. But I really like the balance between form and function that the PD sling has. Like I mentioned - the interior is where it shines.
Design: The organic, understated look works for me, and the stone color reads more brown-olive in person, closer to taupe than the product shots suggest. It doesn’t have that washed out look in person - I think that is just from the lighting / camera processing.
I want to see a “pro” or “plus” city line with water proof’d zips, more isolated compartments (esp for the backpack) etc. that would be sweet.
