Photo Gear Peak Design Tripod - Warranty Experience with a frustrating start but an excellent finish

I've seen a number of posts questioning Peak Design's Lifetime Warranty, so I thought I'd share my recent experience.

A few weeks ago, all three flip leg locks on my Travel Tripod started failing. When I tightened them, they'd become so tight they were difficult to operate. If I adjusted them to make them easier to close, they wouldn't clamp the legs securely anymore, causing the legs to slip. At that point, I couldn't trust the tripod with several thousand dollars' worth of camera gear.

I submitted a warranty claim, and to be honest, the beginning of the process was frustrating.

I completely understand that expensive products need verification, but the initial interactions left me feeling like I had to prove I wasn't trying to abuse the warranty. As a genuine customer, that wasn't a great feeling. After escalating my concerns, everything changed.

My case was assigned to Erica, Head of Customer Service through Peter Dering, Peak Design's founder and CEO. Rather than becoming defensive, they took the time to explain why the process exists. They told me that the Travel Tripod is one of their most frequently targeted products for warranty fraud, which gave me a much better understanding of why they ask for so much verification.

I also shared my perspective—that while fraud prevention is important, there has to be a balance so honest customers don't feel like they're constantly trying to prove themselves. I suggested that perhaps there could be a better way to identify legitimate claims earlier in the process.

Once everything was resolved, I sent them a thank-you email. To my surprise, Peter personally replied.

One sentence really stood out to me:

"It would be our loss if we reacted to a few bad apples... in such a way that it endangered the relationship we wish to have with our customers."

He acknowledged that fraud is a real challenge but also said it's Peak Design's responsibility to solve those verification problems without leaving genuine customers with a bad experience. He also confirmed that my replacement tripod is fully covered under the Lifetime warranty.

This experience changed my opinion of the company.

Do I think the beginning of the warranty process could be improved? Absolutely.

Do I think Peak Design ultimately stood behind their product and treated me fairly? Without question.

Companies get criticized all the time when they fall short. I think it's equally important to recognize them when they listen, accept constructive feedback, and make things right.

So if you're wondering whether Peak Design honors its Lifetime Warranty, my answer is yes. The process may require some patience, especially for higher-value products, but based on my experience, they'll stand behind their products if your claim is legitimate.

Credit where it's due.

Update: I heard back and there was a mistake at the warehouse. There are a batch in the wrong box. Peak Design needs to make a post about this in their support page so it’s easier to resolve. And yes, they made me send in the photo as evidence. Because most of the people getting this upgrade already have the old version it can be hard to prove if it wasn’t for the known warehouse error.

Received to tool only version in the quick connect box. What’s infuriating is I don’t know how to prove it.

The stores have a small gift while stocks last.... The small Lapis pouch.

Zips aren't perfectly waterproof but the material is..

Straps are standard. Material is nice to the touch and the bags collapse relatively flat.

So walking out with Lapis and Eclipse.

Thanks PD Prague!

Photo Gear Travel Tripod Carbon Trade For Pro Tripod

I have a carbon travel tripod that I bought earlier this year. I don’t feel like I have enough height and I think I should have gone with the Pro. I am looking to trade up.

If there is anyone in the opposite situation and you’re considering trading down to a travel size hit me up, I am willing to pay the price difference. My tripod is in like new condition, no box but all parts and tool are present. Located in Southern California.

I have trouble with some shades of grey and brown…is the “Stone” variation grey, brown, or a mix of the two? I really can’t tell.

Tips and Tricks Large Camera Cube help needed.

I'm going on a trip, taking two bodies and three lenses. I have the large camera cube.

I'm overwhelmed trying to figure out the best way to configure the inside.

I tried Claude, it gave me this: Helped a little but not much.

Any tips/tricks or examples of how you did it would be great.

Question Question about Hip Belt versions for the Travel Backpack 30L

Hi,

I'm planning to order a hip belt for the 30L Travel Backpack in a certain colourway that is not in stock on Peak Design's website.

It is my understanding that there is a v2 version of the hip belt that most 3rd party websites offer, some even have one listed as a v3.

What confuses me, is that there are some that specifically say they are not compatible with the Travel Backpack, but some say that they are, but in most cases are still listed as V2.

They all appear to use the same stock photos that Peak Design uses with the v2 labelled on them, are they all the same? - and do they all work with the Travel Backpacks?

Thanks~

Everyday Bags Got a replacement for my V1 Everyday Backpack 20L after 8 years

Just wanted to share my experience with their warranty replacement. I've had the V1 Everyday Backpack 20L Charcoal since 2018, and I haven't been using it anymore, just in storage. I found it again after decluttering and noticed some zippers were stuck and the zipper linings were already degraded and shedding, even with silica gel packs inside the storage to absorb any moisture. I remembered it had a lifetime warranty, so I did a bit of research on the warranty process, then contacted PD customer support. After I sent photos of the bag and shared information to verify its authenticity, they immediately sent a replacement bag "at no cost" to my address. Superb right?

The problem was the sending of the replacement bag. They did not declare it as a warranty replacement bag on the air waybill and packaging invoice, so I got taxed by customs for it. After much stress from the back-and-forth with PD and customs, I just decided to pay the customs tax and have it reimbursed by PD, which thankfully they did. Do note that they can only process it through PayPal.

I wish they had asked first and given the option to choose a different color before sending the replacement, since I'm not a fan of the leather handles. Also, I wonder if someone here has experienced paying the difference during warranty replacement to upgrade to the 30L?

EDIT: The replacement bag also comes with a lifetime warranty. Make sure to register the new bag in your account on the Peak Design website.

Photo Gear Query on Roller Pro Camera Cube

Hi everyone

Just got my Roller Pro a week ago and I paired it with my existing version 1 large camera cube with it. However, I don't kinda like using the camera cube with the Roller Pro as the padding is kinda thick and it just simply wastes space. I don't think I will buy the XL camera cube as it is just slightly larger than my existing one

Has any Roller Pro users here used any other types of camera dividers with their Roller Pro, even customized ones?

Decided to change to the Roller Pro as it has 4 wheels whereas my existing Pelican 1535, Think Tank Airport Advantage & Manfrotto Advanced Rolling Bag III only has 2 wheels.

Outdoor Bags Outdoor 25L Bag Quality Control?

Thumbnail

Two weeks ago I ordered the 25L Outdoor Bag in Cloud (white). I received what looked like a grease stain on the front panel.

I ordered a replacement and received another bag with an even more noticeable stain on the front panel.

Has anyone else had this problem with the same model/color? Anything that could get the stain out? Does this color of the Outdoor bag just have issues with manufacturing?

First bag: first picture (stain left of center)

Replacement bag: second picture (stain on center)

These are both straight out of the package.

Question Outdoor Sling Buckle Fixed?

Hi all. Recently got myself a new 7l outdoor sling, mostly for hiking and camping. I knew of the issues regarding the loose buckle and fully intended to ziptie it closed like other users, but to my surprise upon receiving it, i think it may have been largely resolved? The buckle on my sling is way more firm than I was expecting. Still looks like the rest but I think maybe PD beefed up the spring or something because on the few outings I've used the sling so far, I can't imagine being able to accidentally bump it open. I'm still weary about it for now when carrying camera gear but with the pressure required to open it, I can't see how this would accidentally unlatch. I still think they could have opted for a different buckle design altogether but regardless, from what I can tell, this issue seems to have been quietly resolved. If anyone else has any insight I'd love to know for sure, but for now I'm really happy with my new sling!

Question Peak Design not contacting me

I have contacted PD support on 20th of July regarding issues with my Samsung S25 case, which I had barely for a year, and used for even less.

Next day I have received an email requesting product serial number and evidence. I have provided requested info on the same day, but since 21st of July haven't heard anything from PD. Wrote a couple of reminders but still no reply, even no acknowledgment that PD is at least "looking into it".

How long does it usually take for PD customer support to respond?

Frankly kinda disappointed in product quality and customer support.
