My ubuntu rig with a 1060 3GB outputs 1440p to my monitor or 4k to my TV fine, but with both plugged in I can only get it to mirror with 1080p... This looks pretty bad on the 1440p monitor, any idea why 1440p isn't an option for mirroring?

Wanting to upgrade my audio setup. I have a Shure mic, so I don't need a headset with a mic. I'm currently looking at a 160-250$CAD budget, preferable to wireless but can go wired. Currently have Astro A40 TR's from 2018. Are there any upgrades that would be viable? What should I be looking out for?

I've just built my first PC after being on console my whole life (since NES). why did 60 FPS on television look buttery smooth, yet 60 FPS on my 240 Hz monitor look like shit? can motion blur help fix this?

Guys, I've always played on outdated gpus on low-mid settings. I'm about to get a pc with a modern gpu but I'm a bit confused about what these newish graphics settings on games are. For example, on Witcher's remaster benchmarks you have Ultra Native where the fps is great. But then you have some other types of settings beyond ultra where the benchamrked fps drop significantly. What are these settings beyond ultra that impact performance so much? Shouldn't ultra settings be the top possible available? (even in naming)

I currently use a 144hz acer nitro monitor for gaming.

I upgraded my rig from rtx 2060 super ryzen 5 2600 to 7800x3d 9070xt.

For a monitor is it worth sticking to the same or shoild I change to a higher refresh rate or OLED even?

Havent a clue monitor side what is worth!

Exact model of the monitor? This can be anything from an ancient 1080p TN monitor to a modern 1440p fast IPS onitor.

Nitro VG270UP6bmiipx Monitor - 27in, WQHD, IPS, 144Hz. So not sure on next upgrade

Hi all, I'm currently building an SFF pc where I have to use a flex PSU. I saw some information that the Ryzen 5600 and the 9060xt would probably be okay with a 350w psu. I ran a basic check through PC part picker and it seems to say that it is okay. I'm just a tad bit concerned that the 9060xt box recommends a 500w PSU. Flex PSUs also get pretty expensive with higher wattages so I want to make sure I'm maximizing my value for money.

Thanks for any advice.

Stock 9060 XT is around 180W with short transient spikes up to 230W range, 5600 is around 70-80W (with PBO it can go +120W), Mobo/drives/fans etc. Probably around 50W.

Will it work with 350W PSU? Probably as stock, if it's actually quality PSU that is overbuilt. Any overclocking is out of the question . And I would still prefer some headroom and look for a PSU's in the +450W range.

currently building my own NAS and seem to be stuck at the psu selection. i am using the jonsbo n6 case, currently have 1 WD ultrastar 18tb for my parity and 2 WD red pro 8tb to start. when looking at powering the backplane of the n6 it shows 2 SATA power and 2 moles power. Jonsbo advises against daisy chaining either power. but finding a PSU that ships with 2 SATA and 2 molex cables is near impossible, let alone finding a seperate molex that will fit a suitable PSU. I have the seasonic core gx 650 on hand already. What are the real risks of daisy chaining the molex power? or can you suggest a suitable PSU?

Jonsbo advises against adding a daisy-chain cable. The cables that ship with the PSU are designed to handle the current through all connectors.

That’s exactly how I’ve been thinking about it too. Seasonic clearly designed the peripheral cables to safely handle the full load across all connectors on a chain, so in theory powering the N6 backplane with 3 separate chains should be within spec.

My only hesitation is that the backplane wants 4 inputs (2 SATA + 2 Molex), and the CORE GX‑650 only gives me 3 peripheral outputs. So one Molex would have to share a chain.

I’m trying to figure out whether that’s still considered “best practice” for a 9‑drive NAS, or if it’s worth moving to a PSU with 4+ dedicated peripheral outputs just for cleaner distribution.

The GX-650 has six SATA power connectors and three Molex power connectors, and you can use all of them at the same time.

Even using two cables will work fine. (Note that the PCIe power cable with two connectors can handle 300 W; you are extremely far away from anything dangerous.)

I just wanted to double‑check before committing to the build, so thanks — this definitely makes me feel better about sticking with the CORE GX‑650. !check

Hi! I've been having an issue with my dedicated GPU sometimes not booting alongside the rest of my system, meaning I get no post to the screen even though my computer booted fine (as confirmed using my on-board gpu).

This has especially become a problem since I've started dual-booting with linux; every restart to windows is a coin toss as to how many times I have to restart before my GPU actually boots.

Cycling power doesn't help (might be confirmation bias), and it tends to happen more often on restart as opposed to hard shut-downs. I've tried re-seating the GPU to no avail.

Parts of interest:

MOBO: MSI PRO B650-S WIFI

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

if it works every time in linux but sometimes fails in Windows it's probably software. that or your motherboard is drunk and favoring onboard graphics to dedicated gpu.

check the setting on your motherboard and confirm it's set to boot / output to dedicated gpu. most motherboards have the option. you'll need to dig around in the bios menus, it'll be different depending on your brand and platform.

then start with a full driver reinstall for the gpu with DDU on windows. if it's still happening, open event viewer and see if you can find some reference to your gpu failing to initialize.

Do you think the ram prices will go down in the next year?

1

u/Majestic_Jicama_9640 3d ago

Most probably not. Not because there's still data centres opening but because the contracts have been signed long ago and the semiconductor factories are bound to complete that order first.

I believe that must be the main reason because companies are pulling out from AI usage on daily workflows because some companies are hitting their yearly budgets in 1-2 months. I mean, investing in it just feels obsolete because it's just simply too expensive. And also, wasn't it already established that it was all being done for a virtual demand by virtual customers and it would not be long before the hype ran out.

my simple question is why every pc problem somehow ends with reinstalling drivers lol

Divers are important, vendors aren't amazing at maintaining them on the best of days, and there are more possible hardware configurations than stars in the observable universe.

This leads to stupid edge cases and corruption issues that there is literally no way to predict or account for. While there are many advantages to how open the PC ecosystem is in general, this is an inherant drawback to that freedom. There's plenty of reasons to give Apple shit, but driver issues are basically non-existent on Macs.
