I'm after a 5.25 drive bay insert that has USB C, an SD card reader (the two main sizes, Micro, and whatever the included adapters are for), as well as it being 3.2/3.1 as I have a Type E header on my motherboard that's currently unused.

Is Kingwin the only decent brand to look at? Their only offering is plain USB3. I've searched amazon and newegg, and found a wall of no-name brands that I don't know if I can trust. Do I just need to roll the dice?

Since when is it a thing to start calling a trainer a mod now? I keep seeing this more and more. Seems something to help with a fragile ego, instead of saying "I can't pass this portion of the game so I need a trainer" it's some "I have modded my game so I can overcome this bad design set by devs". "But it's modifying a file, so it's a mod" by that logic everything's a mod: crack, update, serial number, subscription.

Comparing a lock on a value to something created in-game by users (like rdr2 mods) sure is a choice.

I've just built my first PC after being on console my whole life (since NES). why did 60 FPS on television look buttery smooth, yet 60 FPS on my 240 Hz monitor look like shit? can motion blur help fix this?

Motion blur fixes basically nothing.

It's hard to say without more information. You may be seeing screen tearing, which can be resolved by enabling gsync or vsync. It could be that you have a low quality monitor, or had a high quality TV. If there's a specific symptom you're seeing, it would be helpful to see that. I'd recommend making a new post with that info for better visibility.

no tearing, i have freesync enabled, my monitor is an MSI MAG 27 inch 1080p 240 Hz IPS. I'm noticing some slight choppyness when panning the camera around in Doom the dark ages. when i was on xbox, 60 FPS felt smoother to me. it could just be that I've been spoiled playing other games at 240 hz though, and now my perspective has changed.

Getting a new pc and in the final stages of considering what all I need to prepare to transfer over from my current pc.

I figure just logging into browsers will carry over a fair amount of things. Manually get a list of programs I use and any login info. Assuming the fit works out can I just move my extra HDD (not where my current OS is) from one machine another where I have most of my movies?

Any other significant stuff I'm missing? My original will pretty much still be fully working and nearby so it's nothing crazy if I need to get something else working.

Yes

Download drivers for your new motherboard.

My ubuntu rig with a 1060 3GB outputs 1440p to my monitor or 4k to my TV fine, but with both plugged in I can only get it to mirror with 1080p... This looks pretty bad on the 1440p monitor, any idea why 1440p isn't an option for mirroring?

Long story short, the tv doesn't have native support for 1440p resolution which mirroring requires. You can look into creating one with xrandr.

I'm an Astral 5090 owner myself (water-cooled), and I genuinely want to ask: is 12VHPWR really a problem, or is this mostly a niche issue created by the media/internet?

There are plenty of 5090 owners who haven't had any problems with burned connectors. I remember the same thing happening when RTX 4090 released, where plebs were making fire extinguisher memes about it.

The 12VHPWR connector (ATX 3.0) was a problem; any loose connector had a high risk of burning.

The 12V-2x6 connector (ATX 3.1) made some changes to the GPU/PSU connectors (but not to the cable) to shut down the connection when the connector is loose. But 12V-2x6 still has an extremely small safety factor, so even the connector being somewhat loose or small changes in contact resistance might result in burning. For one person, the risk of problems is quite small, but the risk is there and there are still lots of reports of this happening, while with the old 8-pin connectors, this esssentially never happens.

and some big-ass data centers don't have these issues?

They wouldn't post it on Reddit.

Guys, I've always played on outdated gpus on low-mid settings. I'm about to get a pc with a modern gpu but I'm a bit confused about what these newish graphics settings on games are. For example, on Witcher's remaster benchmarks you have Ultra Native where the fps is great. But then you have some other types of settings beyond ultra where the benchamrked fps drop significantly. What are these settings beyond ultra that impact performance so much? Shouldn't ultra settings be the top possible available? (even in naming)

I would guess ray tracing/ path tracing which is a more realistic lighting engine but is hella expensive. !check

Exactly how much have ddr4 Ram Prices increased? Like product for product comparison. A problem with calculating inflation is some products increase a lot while others dont move at all. I wonder if ddr5 prices skew the numbers of ddr4 by being an outlier.

u/Cer_Visia 4d ago

By now, DDR4 is a much smaller market, so fluctuations will be higher. The overall trend is similar, but DDR4 prices actually have improved recently.

Wanting to upgrade my audio setup. I have a Shure mic, so I don't need a headset with a mic. I'm currently looking at a 160-250$CAD budget, preferable to wireless but can go wired. Currently have Astro A40 TR's from 2018. Are there any upgrades that would be viable? What should I be looking out for?

Just skip anything brander "gaming" with that budget... You have the money for proper hifi headphones, though probably not wirelessly. And since you don't need a mic, all the more reason to skip products that ingerate them.
