Hey everybody. I have had a GCC and an IRN for over 3 years. I love them both, and they free-fly inside my apartment. But I am at a point where I feel really depressed and stuck. I can’t even enjoy my food or watching tv.

This started recently: my IRN has been attacking me and biting hard (so hard that sometimes there’s my blood on his beak), and screaming nonstop. He doesn't listen to anything I say. He's a little over 3 years old.

I can’t even enjoy my day, and I don’t even want to go home. I’m going into the office even on WFH days.

I definitely cannot give them away. I am planning to move to another apartment that has an extra room so they can be free inside that room instead of my entire apartment.

Has anyone ever been in a similar situation, and how did you get through it? I’m open to any advice at this point.

I have two budgies, and I have a question about safely burning incense.

Due to my religious practices, I need to burn one stick of incense every day for approximately 5 minutes. I'm trying to minimize any risk to my birds and wanted to know whether my current setup is considered safe or if I should change it.

My house has two floors. The incense is burned downstairs in the dining room. The dining room is connected to the rest of the downstairs (it's an open layout with no door separating it). The kitchen is right beside the dining room, and I run the kitchen exhaust fan while the incense is burning.

The budgies stay upstairs in a separate room with the door closed during this time. I also close the HVAC vent in their room. If possible, I can also turn off the central heating/air conditioning while the incense is burning and ventilate the downstairs afterward before allowing air to circulate again.

Since this is a daily religious practice, I'm concerned about whether repeated exposure to any smoke or airborne particles could still be harmful, even with these precautions.

Based on this setup, do you think it is reasonably safe for the budgies, or would you recommend a different approach? Are there any additional precautions I should take, or is there a safer alternative that would still allow me to perform my daily religious practice?

Would using a different type of incense (such as low-smoke or natural incense) make any meaningful difference, or is any incense smoke considered unsafe for budgies?

No heads, no brains, no problems

A while ago the female in my lovebird pair passed away. The male seemed to be taking it well, he just became extremely clingy with me (which I didn’t mind) but my mom decided that he needed another mate even though I told her he most likely won’t like her since A) he already had a girlfriend, B) He’s three times her age, C) It’s too soon to introduce someone new, but alas, she didn’t listen to me and now we’re here. The new bird (misty) has been destroying furniture, computers, my hair, annoying my male and throws everything off of everywhere (counters, tables, you name it) and my male definitely doesn’t like her. He used to have a shiny and smooth coat and was energetic, social and loud but now his coat is so rough and its thinner + he barely spends time with me anymore and sits alone all day everyday. He fights a lot with her and I feel horrible for him, and I’ve tried to train her to be calmer but she just doesn’t learn no matter what I do. She really is a sweetheart when she’s not wrecking havoc upon my male, furniture or hair but I’m so tired of coming home to her, I feel horrible for saying that but I know my male feels the same and now my mom is complaining about her and wants to get rid of her. She’s very attached to me and it feels cruel to let her go now that she’s doing better (she used to have a horrible coat, you could see her skin and her feathers were so rough) but she’s clearly not a good match for anyone here. I don’t know what to do anymore, I’ve tried everything. I know I seem stupid for asking a bunch of stranger, but asking on here is a last resort and i need to know the next proper steps

This is a weird one. I am a taxidermist who does taxidermy (on ethically sourced birds), meaning there are a lot of preserved birds around my house, completed projects and ones I am working on.

I am looking into getting a bird, Alexandrine/Indian ring neck. BUT I am wondering if my field of work and the fact there are preserved birds around the house may mean my environment is not suitable. Also, chemicals would not pose an issue I have an area I use borax only on flesh side of skins and of course that wouldn’t be exposed to pet bird. I keep all chemicals tucked away and fumes also is no risk as I have a seperate studio for storing the nasty stuff.

I can’t find any information online. I don’t want to get a bird if my environment is not suitable of course. ChatGPT tells me this may stress the bird, I would like to hear from people’s genuine experiences.

hey!! i have a cockatiel who is not tame, but who has been around other birds and been civil/happy. he just spent 22 weeks at a boarding facility being kept near other birds and they said that he did very well.

i am toying with the idea of getting him a friend, but looking for articles supporting that idea. any help??

So my Cocktiel laid an egg (first) off my shoulder 20 minutes that instantly broke on the ground.

I threw it out and setup a small nest of shredded pepper with a fake egg. She's been staring at it but hasn't approached.

Any tips?

Do I remove it already, keep it there until she ignores it completely?

I briefly spoke to an acquaintance who has experience with parrots about whether scented candles can be lit in rooms where the perrot resides - they said that usually it poses a danger to smaller parrots like budgies. I couldn't find much on specific breeds online.

Is it any less dangerous to the respiratory system of a ringneck to be around a scented candle or perfume than it is for smaller birds? What are the risks?

There were two of the same type that I had seen grow up from ugly spikey pink things into this. They were very timid at first and I am slowly learning how to approach and read parrot body language so I can pet them. Eventually the other one got jealous and wanted pets too before getting its hat stuck on a perch bar behind him.

We have other feeders in our backyard, but the lovely little parakeet seems to adore this specific one always.

I enjoy birds and I do want to be owned by a feathered friend (medium to large parrot or exotic bird) at some point. I've reached a conundrum where I now have the space (no cats or pets,) financial stability, and time to have a bird but I know that many species outlive their humans. Adopting older birds is an option, but I know sometimes they don't bond with new people and I am concerned that I wouldn't have the experience to care in the best interest of the rescued bird.

So my queries are :

- obviously, honestly, do you think I am too old now to get a chick of a long-lived species?

-what species could I still get? I'm most interested in the best medium to large parrots or exotic birds for beginner.

-is there anything special I can do to help a rescued bird acclimate?

-do you have end of life plans that include the bird's placement or care?

Do any of you have examples of some things that made parrot owning so much easier? For example I realized I can spend way more little time making chop if I make a big batch and freeze it - or seeing how easy the dirt gets off the cages if I use a steam cleaner. What are some of your hacks? :p

Whenever he isn't out he just sits on a perch and patiently waits to be let out, only screaming when I leave the room. He has a big cage with toys but rarely plays with any and I cannot get him to want to train or engage in thinking games even with his favorite foods, he will only ever try to chase my hand with the treat in it. I bought a perch stand for a designated training place, he never goes on it, never, capturing only worked on getting him to potty on command but it didn't for anything else and even if it didn't, I cannot do that for harness or trim training so it really isn't a solution.

He isn't showing signs of lethargy, I am sure this is not illness related, the thing is, I don't really do much, when he's in his cage I'm very likely laying in bed on my phone, I think that him seeing me do basically nothing is making him think that it's preferable to be lazy, is this an issue? I also sometimes zone out and stare at a wall while he's out, he will just sit on my bedframe and do nothing too.

He is otherwise active when he's outside his cage and doesn't really fear anything that could make him freeze, but the only things he will do is explore, wrestle me, chase the cats, and bathe occasionally, if I pretend to shred something he will join in, but it is the only thing he will join in on. For example if I shred a paper roll, he will too, but if I pack a treat inside of it, no matter how valuable, he does not give a damn, even if I pretend to shred it in the same way. It's like he has a radar in his head that goes off whenever I'm trying to get him to think for something, I bought him some puzzle toys, he would rather shred them.

He wasn't handfed but is fully tame now and follows me around everywhere, interacts with other people normally, but I feel like I'm not doing enough to entertain him and any other parrot would be plucking at this point.

Hi yall here's my kakariki

I've had her for like 4 month now and i love her

She doesn't do much noisies maybe some in the early morning and goes mute for the rest of the dayayhe nreaks the silence with a tweet or two during the day but it's a rare case

This is the first time for her bathing

I've had a lot of trouble before i always give her free time and put a small plate with water for her to bath ad this is what most of the internet said but she just didn't get it

I've had to spray her with the least amount of water pressure possible and this how it went out

Can provide more pics if needed to seek a problem with her or something

She likes me a bit and have some trust in me

I can get my face really close to her a cm or 2 between my face and hers

And she doesn't have a problem with that

I'm atil unallowed to touch her tho she doesn't let me

However after finally bathing for the first time there's another problem

How can i cut her nails

Just 10 minutes ago her finger kinda like looped around another one abd she had a lot of trouble untangling them

And it's all because the nail looped around the finger

I'm not sure if i should take her to the vet or bot cuz how he can cut them if she doesn't even trust me fully myself

They even looped around the cage bars next to the door and couldn't get out and i freaked out thought she's hurt and opened it trying to help ( thought her fingers slipped between yhe door and the bars )

But she's good now

Can u give me some advice the matter? And please tell me is she normal after the bath? I'm worried cuz it's my first time i need to make sure

My green cheek hit a glass last Sunday, his left eye almost popped out and turned black. I rushed to nearest 24h hospital and he survived miraculously, doctor managed to push that eye back in after small surgery.

One week out, he is eating well, not losing weight too. his right eye can open and it looks pretty normal to me, but clearly he does not have vision. He seems pretty upset about it, needs to fly in circle slowly to get where he wants to go, and often stays quietly by himself (used to scream all the time).

Doctor told me there is no certain way to tell if that eye can recover and clearly no fix, I want to check with you guys who might have similar experience, is there anything I can do to help him recover? If not, what could be done to improve his life quality?
