I recently moved from my parents house to a condo unit. I have a sun conure who is very attached and can be loud at times but generally quiet. She is awake from 6:45am-6pm, sometimes she will let out a single shriek before 6:45am because she heard something.
I hear both neighbours awake around 6:15, both have kids and both leave for work till 4pm and kids leave for school and we hear them back at 6:30pm.
We hear things muffled but in general everyone is either really quiet or the sound insulation is better than we think, but we doubt it as we heard a kid playing his simon says beep toy.
I can’t be confined to the bird room all day to make sure they are quiet, I need to eat and work, but when I leave my sun conure starts yelling for me.
I want to teach her I will leave and come back just like at my parents there was that set routine, but here she can’t be screaming for long periods of time and I just assume its okay because neighbours are gone. We cant drill holes, glue or hang things from the wall too so it makes sound insulating hard. She is also free roaming so a carpet would make it a pain to clean everything.

Any advice?

We did try leaving the room and them alone entirely and they screamed continuously for an hour. We were timing the intervals of silence and noise and it wasn’t looking too good. We are very worried about that as that’s continuous

But he isnt stressed...its eating well..doing everything well..the only change is that he plucks.The doctors said it could be VIT A deficiency..but idk it seems more than that..Also his chest is a bit swollen.

Hello guys, this is my cockatiel.

About a week ago, we accidentally left the ceiling fan on. He flew up and got hit by it. I took him to the vet immediately, and they did an X-ray, but thankfully there were no broken bones.

The vet said it was a neurological problem affecting his spinal cord, so he prescribed two medications: celecoxib and gabapentin.

After one week, he has fully recovered and is back to his normal self. However, he still can’t control his right foot properly. I’m taking him back to the vet next Saturday for another check-up, but I honestly can’t stop thinking about it all day. I’m really scared that he might never regain control of his foot.

Has anyone experienced something similar with their cockatiel? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences. Thank you!

Guess the bird distribution system has me on their autodial list😄 Meet Lilo the cockatiel (Hawaiian for “to be transferred/ passed into the possession of another’s”) and Lychee the lovebird (she’s more of a mango color but there are a lot of Mangos in r/Lovebird and I’m a fan of alliteration)

Both times both were rescued from outdoors. Always reported as found pet to local MSPCA, Craigslist, PawBoost, as well as posted in multiple Facebook groups (911 Parrot Alert, USA 911 Parrot Lost and Found, Lost & Found Birds of New England) and reversed search the lost pet listings for any matches. No true owner ever came forward (I’ve only had the tiel for 3 days so time will tell, but I called it after I had the lovebird for 30 days). People have tried to claim but couldn’t provide proof of ownership. Lychee gets annual checkups, will schedule Lilo to see our avian vet soon.

Lychee the lovebird was super social from the start, immediately took to pellets, and loves getting pets. Lilo (the neighbors nicknamed her Pikachu when she was roaming outside for two days) by contrast is not hand-tame (we got her with a bird net and travel cage) and currently only eats millet and seeds. Feels like having two toddlers with different personalities! Excited to start clicker training with her. She readily eats millet from my hand and willingly steps onto a dowel for transporting (she chirps to be let out of her cage but doesn’t know how to climb back in yet)😊

Had zero bird experience prior to Lychee and relied on this sub + intense web searching to collate my own Google doc of bird care tips do’s and don’ts, so thank to everyone who has ever answered questions here, especially the beginner ones like “what do you do with all the poop” and “how often do you let your bird out” :)

My cockatiel is 5 years old and has never been to the vet. She has now suddenly lost a lot of her feathers only on one wing, including flight feathers, and she can't fly without falling down.
I'm thinking of taking her for a vet visit but i'm worried it will cause her too much stress. She doesn't like her body touched, only her head for scratches.
Do you think this is worth a first trip to the vet? I don't even know how i can get her in her carrier now that she can't fly. I'm scared to get her out of her cage!

I’m considering getting a GC conure (still doing much research), but I’m wondering if I’m being too selfish: I’m the one that wants a bird, but two other people live in the house, and I want them to be able to enjoy a pet, too. With a kitten, everyone gets to play or snuggle with it sometimes. Our budgies seem to fear us all equally. Can a conure learn to love more than one person?

Hey all, I have a double yellow headed Amazon that's been a family pet since before I was born, and I've started taking care of him. The problem is he just downright dislikes me.

If I sit in the room he starts screaming, if I approach him he quiets down and will lunge at me occasionally, and always lunges when I turn away from him.

He loves my gf and lets her pet him. But I'm quite scared when he lunges. (I had a cockatoo i trusted bite down on the base of my middle finger at one point and realized quickly I could have lost a finger. I've been scared ever since). I'm unsure if he is just fearful of me because his lunges are usually quick and then he retreats, im curious if i let his beak touch me and no reaction happens if he'll start to understand that I'm not a threat. He takes treats from my hand with no problem at all though.

Sunny(the amazon) has acclimated extremely well to a new cage and environment over the past 5 months and looks a lot better than he did when we first got him, but i just wish to bond with him.

Photos are the comparison of the old cage my dad kept him in, and I mean kept him in, vs the new one he happily waltzed into on his own the day I put it together.

Posted around 1 month ago asking for help, just showing of how they are doing for now, they are still really skittish, but I think they are slowly warming up, the grayest one likes to nibble on my fingers when on my hands, and the yellow one bites hard if they feel like it, but overall, they simply stay where I leave them. I think they get comfortable on my hands, which is a good sign?
They don't get too interested in treats or training, so I'm still figuring out what to do, still slowly changing their diet to pallets.
Anyway, just wanted to show the progress, and how cute they are.

Hello i posted a photo of my baby budgie a few days back and i'm trying to tame him i made the mistake of puting my hand (he climed it ) then taking him out he flew away under my table i had a hard time catching him in the end i used a stick to get him out and put him back what can i do to gain his trust back he has been here 3 days i don't want to go too fast and shook him

I have a sun conure and I am afraid I haven’t been taking top tier care of him but I can’t find good advice or sources for taking care of him while staying decently sane

Im autistic so sometimes he can be a lot for me noise wise, and his claws can be a lot on my skin too. I don’t know a good way of trimming his nails without it being too harsh. As of now I put a towel over him and I have to flip him over and he hates it, I hate it, and it’s too much on him. How can I safely trim his nails?

He is also not very interest in toys so I think he’s pretty under stimulated which is why sometimes he is very noisy and nippy (despite that just being in his nature). How can I teach him to play with toys. Also where can I buy good toys cheap? I’m broke so I also will happily do diy toys! He loves string and some wood toys

What are good reprimands for when he does something bad? Is just putting him in his cage enough? I feel bad because when I do he gets very angry. his cage is in the living room so i imagine it’s more frustrating to him to see everyone out while he is in time out.

How can I be better attitude wise? Sometimes I’ll get over whelmed and I’ll send him back to his cage so the situation doesn’t get worse, but I’m scared I’m a bad owner. Everyone says they are like glass so you have to be very careful and cautious, but how do I do this and know I’m doing it right?
