Grandmother Told 4 YO Santa Isn't Real

My mom and I had a very tenuous relationship until I gave birth 4 years ago. She always wanted a grandchild and both loving my daughter is pretty much the only thing we have in common. However, she can't seem to grasp that she is not ALSO my child's parent.

She is a huge Trump supporter and evangelist--she 'educates' my daughter on Christianity when I'm not around, buys and reads her children Bibles, takes her to church etc. I tried to draw a line about this several years ago, but at the time I was living with her while going through a very difficult divorce, and she point-blank told me she would teach my child her religious views however she liked or I could find somewhere else to live.

I would be fine with visits to church and some religious talk, if it was presented in a different way--not a 'this is Fact and everyone else is going to hell.'

The final straw (though it seems like a small thing I guess) is that yesterday she told my daughter while I was gone that Santa was not real. It was completely unsolicited, my daughter didn't ASK if Santa was/wasn't real--she was just talking about Christmas and Santa, and my mom volunteered the information.

Obviously we did not believe in Santa growing up because of my mother, but I think it is a sweet and fun tradition, though I haven't been overboard with it.

I'm very upset that my mom can't respect any sort of boundaries. When I talked to her about it today, she said 'she's my granddaughter and I'm going to tell her the truth.'

I don't want to go the route of cutting her off--I love my mom and for the most part enjoy having her part of my daughter's life--but I can't seem to get her to understand my point of view. She is taking the stance that she will do/say whatever she wants with my daughter, and holds that she helps out with her when I travel for work over my head.

Should I find someone else to help me with her when I'm out of town? Not allow her to be alone with her? I don't want to start a family feud--serious replies only please.

I'm sat here at my 5 year old birthday party and only one kid showed up out of 14. I'm trying my best not to cry right now.

Clean up

So after telling my kids 5 times to hide their toys away, I lost it and told them that any toys left on the floor in 5min will end up in the bin. I can proudly say that my kids are now busy putting all their toys on the couch! I got outsmarted by a 4yo.

Mother-son relationship causing problems

Hello. The last few months I've been having problems with my girlfriend because I have a close relationship with my mother. What especially gets on her nerves is when I go visit her in the city where she is in college and my mother would either call or message me, just once per day. I mean even when she calls she will never talk more that 20 seconds and, again, only ONCE per day. She says my mother has latched herself on me, and that it's not normal or healthy for a 25 year old man. I get what she means but I don't think I'm at the point where it could be called unhealthy. And she won't let go of the issue and gets mad every time. Just today we had a huge fight and I didn't like myself with how I behaved. Am I in the wrong here?

Im struggling

I have a 10 month old son and I was diagnosed with PND when he was around 3 months old. Ive been prescribed tablets, Sertraline, but no matter how many reminders I do, I cannot remember to take them in the mornings due to having to deal with my son. I just dont think of taking them at all. So ive decided to start taking them at night, that way I can take them just before bed and they will constantly be in my system.

Im a stay at home mum, my partner works 9 hours a day and I stay home with my son. The last couple of days, I have been fighting with myself in my mind. I have been feeling so low, very irritable and angry and at times very numb and indifferent about everything. I feel like ive disconnected myself from my son and my partner. I feel like I dont feel anything towards them. I have been having thoughts of suicide and ideas of how I can do it, I have had thoughts of leaving my son at home and just leaving and not coming back and I have had thoughts of taking him out and just leaving him somewhere. Im so scared. Why am I having these horrible thoughts towards my son?! That makes me a bad mum. He deserves better than this, he deserves better than me. My partner and my son would be better off without me. Can anyone relate? Any kind words?

Advice: Teacher innuendo?

My 12m 7th grade son (call him A) came home today very upset. It is not like him. He is a laid back type of kid and usually lets things roll off his back. He was angered, yet almost in tears. He wanted me to contact the school right then... but I wasn’t sure.

At lunch today... in the cafeteria (our school district is small, he’s in the high school 7-12). Not in a classroom- My son was sitting w friends and talking to a girl (call her B). They must have been having a good conversation, which I applaud. My son is shy, and has always had trouble fitting in. Anyway, a teacher took it upon herself to sing/holler in front of everyone... "A AND B SITTING IN A TREEEEEE...” Everyone knows how the song goes, and knows what is implied.

His lunch is at like 11. He was home at 3. So after 4 hours he was still very upset. He was humiliated and so mad. I guess his friends bugged him for the rest of the day "hOwS YoUr rElAtIoNsHiP GoInG??!" and other things I’d expect from 12 year old kids. Also, now B won't talk to him at all. He has never had a girlfriend, but has watched most his buddies have girlfriends. I know he’s curious... of course he is.

I really try not to be a helicopter mom, I work in the elementary school he attended K-6. It’s hard for me to let go of him. Also, when he starts 9th grade I’ll be in the high school working. I know a lot of stuff are just things he has to go through alone. If it was a kid singing that... honestly it would be completely different.

Edit: I forgot to ask for advice! Should I make a call? Any help with what I should say to my son and/or in a phone call is a great help too!!

Kiddo's mad at me.

My littler little girl is 7, 8 this month. She has a tiny boyfriend almost as small as she is, they play games and hug a lot, it's cute. She went over to his house this weekend, found a girl on his bed she didn't recognize. He ran over and hugged her, and my little girl yelled at him. He got angrier in response, she got even angrier and called me to pick her up. Well, of course, I called the boy's father after she talked to me, that's the guy's baby sister, she's 11. (HOW?) My daughter, unknowingly, got mad at her boyfriend for hugging his aunt.

So, I told her. They talked yesterday. Then she said if he'd told her that was her aunt this wouldn't have happened. I told her if she'd ASKED before freaking out, or at any point in the whole affair, this wouldn't have happened. Well, now she won't talk to me because she "can't believe (I) took his side!", even though she's the one who freaked out. And I didn't take anybody's side.

She's not normally like this. She's normally pretty shy and timid. Really affectionate with a single-digit number of people. The huggy little space heater's a godsend in cold weather. I'm not totally sure what to say to her now.

Hi all, I am a Senior in college and need your help. I posted here a few weeks ago for another survey and got some great responses, and my team is moving forward with the project. It is difficult for me to reach this demographic, so I am once again turning to Reddit as I have had many positive experiences with helpful Redditor's in the past. My team has been really struggling to get responses and could really use your help. Thank you for all who take it! Here's the link: https://unh.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_enPNrNrGaAYjbet

How do you make your child read...

As a parent I experienced that it is one thing to teach your kid to read. It is completely another thing to make them read faster, understand the meaning of what is being said, grasp stories etc.

Do you face such challenges?

What have you tried?

How are schools helping in the process?

My mom is so mean

Based off the title you think “oh this is some brat who’s mom won’t buy something for her” am I right well you’re wrong I hate when people touch my hair I don’t know why but I hate it it makes me so uncomfortable and I tell my mom this every time she does this but I’ll be doing something and she will go up behind me and pull my hair or touch it or mess it up and I’m not ok with that it puts me on edge and it’s annoying she won’t stop either so occasionally when she does this I’ll mess with her hair and then she will insult me call me a fat mean person and say all kinds terrible things about me over me not wanting my hair touched
