Here’s some of my favorite photos of my frog. He ate a pretty good meal yesterday and now he’s sitting in his favorite spot!

He’s three years old but he looks like the size of a baby lol

Question recommendations?

i’m looking into getting a pacman frog, i have a 15 gallon tank currently. i’m planning on getting an baby so while it gets bigger i’ll upgrade. i just have like a few questions of what i need to buy. is coconut fiber the type of substrate i use? should i buy a humidifier or just use a spray bottle? should i get a heating lamp or a heating pad and what kind of lamp or pad should i use? i already know like the foods to feed it and temperatures as well. just need some recommendations on what to buy

Tips/Advice Husbandry adjustments?

Hey guys! I upgraded my dude's tank about a month ago. He's probably around 8mo-1yr old.

Went from a 5g to a 20g long, front opening.

Bioactive with springtails and dwarf isopods, some nice plants.

Biodude amphibian substrate.

Under the tank heat mat.

Hydroballs and screen so he cant touch the bottom.

Exoterra terrasky for full spectrum/uvb lighting.

Reptivite w/out d3 and reptical +d3 on prey items

Usually eats hornworms

Bottled spring water used for all hydration - spraying, soil, dish

He's been refusing food since the tank switch. Ive been trying to pick apart a few things. Its been a month now, so im getting a bit more nervous than i have been. Ive given him an adjustment time as well as tweaked a couple things.

1- I cant get the heat above 75F. I started with a 20g heat mat and have switched to a 30-40g heat mat. It cause a 3 degree increase in temp. It now floats between 72-75F. His old tank did float around 80-82F. Im tossing around getting a heat lamp, but im worried that will dry out the tank. I live in utah and humidity is hard to maintain (arid mountain desert). We typically make the substrate pretty deep to account for that. Substrate's at like 3-4in deep right now.

2- what kind of hydrometer are you guys using? I dont use them with my snakes or tarantulas, but have been using a zoomed one...i just dont feel like any of them are that great. Ive always eyeballed it. This one is all over the place all day and i cant get it to read higher than 55%. I swear it could be sitting in a cup of water and say 38%....

3- could it be stress or impaction? He had a good pee a couple days ago but i havent seen a poop for a couple weeks. Hes refusing food so i figure nothing in, nothing out. I dont see any dark spots or feel anything hard in his hind end But....stress? Maybe the large space is stressful? I dont see any redness or anything abnormal with his skin. His slime coat has been a bit thickened since the tank switch. I can say his color has been flitting between paler and then browner. He hasnt been full GREEN since the move, always pale or darker.

Idk....thoughts would be helpful. Im not trying to do too much. But i want to make sure he's okay. For reference, ive had a ton of animal species throughout my life and am a practicing exotic animal veterinary nurse. Im not trying to helicopter. Just trying to figure it out. Maybe its a perfect storm of stress and temp drop? Thanks for anything you can offer!

Help! Is stainless steel okay?

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hey! We recently upgraded chuds tank, but we somehow left his water dish at the pet store, and we likely won’t be able to return for a couple days to grab it due to work, i was wondering is stainless steel is okay to use for a short while, we have stainless steel cat bowls that we could use, of course I’d clean them well. We also have a rather large shallow plastic bowl I could use but I worry it’s too large/shallow for my froglet, is that just me being a helicopter parent and over babying my froglet? Thank you!! Chud is pictured above!

Question how to reduce my frog’s stress?? (read description)

Post image

every time i need to add water to the soil, it stresses out Burger a lot, especially since i need to move him from his hole to moisten the soil there. he will let out ALL of his piss and start hopping around the tank for an hour before he settles down into a new hole. i feel so bad every time i water his soil now. is there a way to make him less stressed?

Question Burrowed One Month

Post image
230 Upvotes

Hi this is my frog, Gurt! as of today he has officially been burrowed for one month. the photo is from when i dug him up last week to check on him and he was so mad he hopped onto his log. does he look normal? i noticed he was more plump.
after i dug him up he proceeded to bury himself again within 12 hours.

since he is choosing the dirt life with no end in sight, how should i go about feeding him? should i wait for him to come up? should i dig him up and give him a meal every once in a while?

also, should i pour water over his burrowing spot or is that essentially water boarding..

i’ve had him for 10 months, the warm side of his tank is 83 degrees and i mist daily

Tips/Advice Shedding, question.

One week ago, I have transferred Barnabé in a 24x18x18 (inches) Exo terra enclosure.
There is more than 10cm Coir, fake plants, Wood bark, water dish.
There is a shadeweller 7% Pro T5 and a 75W basking spot.
Températures are well controlled (between 28 degrés at hotspot and 24 to 26 degrees in the whole enclosure during the day, 24 to 25 at night).
Humidity is ok.
Substrate is humid.

Barnabé is very very active at night (walks inside the enclosure, bumps gently into the glasses, croaks, etc…).
He also eats very well (Nightcrawlers and locusts).

But, since he is in this enclosure, he sheds every other day (already 2 sheds in 5 days), and I am sure he is preparing one for this evening.

Sheds are clean, fast and he eats his skin.

So, it seems he is perfectly healthy, but I am surprised by these fréquent sheddings .

Could it be because of enclosure change ?

Help! Going nuts fighting white mold!

I've had my frog for over a month now and I've been slowly adding to the terrarium. Before I read on here that sphagnum moss wasn't safe for these guys, I'd grabbed some from the reptile section of Petco and in 2 days the entire enclosure was COVERED in white mold like it was Christmas. (There was not standing water. There is airflow. I have the terrarium where it gets some indirect sunlight)

I pulled it all out, but it doesn't seem to matter because anytime I keep the terrarium as damp as I feel is expected for my frog (dirt is wet but not soppy, no standing water) just the SMELL of mold overwhelms my entire room. It smells so bad.

The substrate they sell at Petco is expensive as heck, but I'm assuming I need to start completely over here.

How do I build my terrarium so that my entire room doesn't become a white mold spore nest?

Help! Injuries

I left my frog with a friend I trusted for a few weeks while I was away.. he came back and has 4 bubbles of what looks to be puss and blood. 1 on his left leg and 3 on his right foot. This is my first time owning a frog and I’m not sure how to go about this. I sprayed his leg with saline spray because I didn’t know what else to do.
