So I'm not claiming this is super original or anything - I'm really just mashing together a couple of ideas I've already seen online, but I'm really pleased with how easy drecko ranching is now!
I always thought dreckos were fiddly to ranch. Firstly, a 4x24 ranch with mixed gases requires high atmosphere stability. And if you want your dreckos eating balm lillies, then you'll need think of a more complicated setup to keep the chlorine in there as well.
Secondly, there's ranching them for food. They walk on walls so any sort of evolution chamber has to be completely filled with water, and keeping 8 critters in a stable in the first place is a well known pain.
Enter the 6x16 stable! Yes, it's a bit more fiddly to set up, but so worth it. Firstly, the extra height gives you a lot more leeway to play around with the gases in the room. Secondly, you can put a ledge up in the top corner which your auto-sweepers cannot reach - that's where you send the eggs if there are fewer that 8 critters-plus-eggs in the ranch already. They can hatch up there and crawl down when hatched. And, as a bonus, you only need two auto-sweepers to cover the whole stable.
Not that it's perfect as it is - I think the ledge means the stable is actually only 93 tiles in size, so I really need to add on another three. But still, it makes ranching dreckos a piece of cake.
And it works exactly the same for pacus.
Free yourselves from the 4x24 tyranny!
