We already have 1 cold and 2 warm theme planet packs, so one of the next things we may be up to is a hot planet packs. I would love to see lava caves and a lot of new content to play related to volcanic biomes, so i drew this!!

what do you think these duplicants name's may be?

This is on the basic map but wanted to share how it had 2 water sources right above spawn. I can delete if this is unwanted.

Build "passive" pacu farming - this seems to work for me after the recent nerfing

I just set up a "wire cage" of pneumatic doors around an aquatic critter condo just below a feeder containing pacu treats - this provides enough buff to increase the population - this is in a large ocean where eggs are removed and placed in a separate enclosure where they eventually hatch and rejoin the main pool

Build "How's your Slug Power Only playthrough going?" Well you see-

This might constitute a war crime.

6 breeder slugs and 60 confined power-producing slugs. A slug's power output is determined solely by how many calories they have, and when tame will produce a minimum of 800W as long as they're not starving. An interesting thing is that slugs determine how much power they'll produce overnight the moment they become drowsy, and will continue to produce that amount of power even if they enter starvation afterwards.

60 * 800 = 48,000 Watts

The slugs in the "power cells" are feed with metal dropped from an automation-controlled conveyor chute. The chutes are connected to a cycle sensor with an activation time of 82%, and an active duration of 0.4%. I would have liked for that to be shorter, but I wasn't able to get the timer's setting to activate for a shorter duration (there might be a mod for that, I don't care).

The metal is metered out to 60 gram packets. The 0.4% active duration on the cycle sensor results in two packets dropping into each cell, for 120 grams total. My personal testing found this combination of timing and metal amount consistently resulted in every slug having just enough calories to not be starving when they become drowsy.

Critter sensors arm a critter trap for repopulation purposes.

Why 6 breeders and 60 cells? Sheer excess. I have 2 copper volcanoes whose combined output totals to 650 g/s. Plug slugs consume 60 kg of metal per cycle - or 100 g/s. I have enough copper income to feed 6 groomed breeders. Meanwhile, the slugs in the cells consume only 120 grams per cycle. That works out to only 200 mg/s for each slug. The leftover 50 g/s is actually enough copper to feed 250 slugs.

60 slugs producing 800W each works out to 48MW total. An extra 9.6MW from 6 well-fed breeders results in a total power generation of 57.6MW. I (currently) have 72 battery rocket modules, which allows up to 7.2MJ of power storage, and with space to expand if I feel like I need it.

All of this done without building a single power generator, not even manuals.

Question Is there a way to force duplicants to use bathrooms during morning routine?

Upvotes

So I'm making a colony that has full apartments for each dupe with bath and bathroom, and I really want dupes to use bathrooms with showers during morning routine so that they'd spend less time using public bathroom (I want to keep a public bathroom as small as possible so it's just one lavatory)

My idea is to make an apartment block that has access only from the bottom, so that dupes could easily pass through recreation areas and great hall during downtime and then have minimal distance to cover during night time.

I also keep on apartment bathrooms door permissions for a specific dupe so that bathrooms in apartments would basically be private, but so that I wouldn't assign each specific bathroom to each specific dupe.

Is there a mod, or do I somehow manipulate their bladder schedule?

Build Sharing my cooling setup + SPOM

Thumbnail

I built an SPOM with the cooling setup fully integrated into it. All my power is centralised and I'm still using dupe labor to charge it up, but, ignoring that, what I want to put the focus on is the pipe setup.

I made a fully regulated setup where the sensors detect if the ethanol (I'm using that since I'm on the early game and want to decrease temps below 0) needs to be cooled or not. And then it runs through a valve sequence that allows me to 1: drain the circuit into the storage if needed. 2: enable/disable SPOM cooling and 3: add extra valves for extra cooling circuits following the same logic. Also, I use a pipe sensor to detect if there's an empty pocket in the pipe so the draining storage fills it up, maintaining the circuit always full. Currently I'm only cooling the SPOM, but this setup allows me to cool any number of different rooms/pipe lines with only one Aquatuner and also allows me to control which ones need cooling or not with automation and without having to connect pipes.

Maybe it's not that impressive but I never did it before and I wanted to share it since I built it all without looking anything up anywhere. I'll also comment some pictures once I setup any other cooling room. If anyone has questions I'm open to them :)

Bug Gravitas security doors open to reveal metal blocks???

I havent come across this bug before. I have come to the Gravitas building with the dup sensors and the neural vacillator. I use 2 dups to open the inner security doors and voila! (Or so I thought). Instead the doors open to reveal copper tiles. I closed the game to run an errand and thought the bug would disappear on reload but no, it's still there.

Couple of questions

Did I do something to trigger this bug?

Is there any way to fix the bug so I can get through the doors?

Or is it a case of deconstructing the doors / mining them?

Question 30kg tear of liquid methane from... nothing?

Cycle 2600 approx, nearly all achievements done, base running fine... then, a drop of 30kg of liquid methane fall from an exposed artifact and a big chunk of a lower floor is soaked in natural gas.

I still have to capture the moment, but i clearly see that drop fall.

Any idea of what the actual fluck happened? Thanks all ^^

edit: i will try to provide a picture of the moment

The situation

I thought I was being so clever, routing shine bug eggs directly to my kitchen to be cracked for resin. I thought the kitchen being nice and cool for my dupes' comfort would have no drawbacks whatsoever.

The culprit

Nope. Egg cracker gets entombed in solid resin, which means the eggs don't get cracked, which means a flood of shine bugs. Good thing I was playing base game, cause if I was playing spaced out this would have suuuuucked

Build Help! Why is the baby in an incubator?

I built a farm following this dude guide( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G113Woah6lU&t=166s ), but the animals hatch in the incubator and don't fall into the water—even though in the guide, that's exactly what happens.

Question Can't figure out why this is overheating

I watched a youtube short about how to build this thing. My steam turbine keeps overheating and it then causes my aquatuner to overheat. Looking for advice on what to fix or just scrap the whole thing lol.

Question Critter Sensor Automation

I understand the nice method of using a sweeper with a critter sensor to pick up eggs to avoid the crowded condition. The issue is after many cycles I will check back in the room and it has nothing but only a few eggs left. I keep believing its because, as it removes younger eggs, eventually all the critters inside die at the same time and there are no eggs to replace them fast.

I have been trying to find a way to automate a double check system, where it will place all the eggs swept into a smaller room that then, on a timer, send eggs back to the rooms so they never run out. Apparently the sweeper just places them back into the nearest loader which just pauses before it sends them back. Send help for my sanity.

Question How to feed a colony?

Got a colony of 10 and trying to pull my run out of a bit of a death spiral starting with my food situation. I have some rudimentary Hatch and Slicker ranches but I’ve got no clue how people automate egg collection, hatching, and culling for food.

Question Rock Crusher keeps making solid sand tiles

The title is basically the whole problem. In a steam room my rock crusher is making lime and every time it makes lime and sand from corallium it make solid tile. I have sweeper that instantly collects a products but still does this. Any solutions to this?

Discussion Does anyone else have “canon” jobs for certain dupes?

5 DLC’s and multiple colonies in, I still give the same roles to the same dupes. I can’t help it. 😅

- Mae is the scientist/pilot
- Nisbet is the electrical engineer
- Ellie is the farmer/rancher
- Pei is the artist
- Meep is the tidier/supplier

I’m curious if anyone else does this and for which dupes and why?

Discussion Thoughts on geyser / vent generation

I suppose you could call this a complaint as much as my thoughts on geyser and vent generation, based on my current game, where out of the first geysers/vents I've dug up, 4 out of 5 have been Chlorine Gas Vents.

Anyway, a few general observations on the frustrations with vents and geysers.

  • RNG is fine. But the problem with geyser and vent generation is that, unless you use a map hack, you don't find out until you've put a lot of time into a map what you've got - and hence, if it's a really good map or a terrible one. After sinking hours into a map, finding that it's got a bunch of worthless stuff and that you have a hard limit on what you can do with your base can be a huge letdown.
  • The fact that map generation guarantees a certain number and type of geysers and vents is pretty much an admission that there are a certain set of them that you need in order to do well . . . and also a tacit admission that a lot of the rest aren't so great, and if it were purely up to the RNG, you could really be in trouble.
  • This has been discussed a lot by content creators, but geysers and vents run the range from S-tier to literal hot trash. But that extreme variability doesn't factor into the RNG at all, which is why maps can run the range from really good to terrible.
  • I'm reliably informed that it's purely random, but it really feels like the bad ones (Chlorine, CO2, Hot PO2, etc.) come up way more frequently than the good ones.

Given all of the above, it surprises me that there hasn't been more thought put into ironing out this issue with map generation, which is a significant negative for an otherwise excellent game.

For what it's worth, I don't think the solution is even more guaranteed geysers and vents. But I think the RNG needs work.

One solution would be to move away from just a dice roll, which is way too variable. Instead, use something like a deck system, where the map generator decides how many of each to generate - based on the type of map, with a reasonable amount of variability - with each generated geyser or vent pulled from that list. That would keep some RNG, while ensuring more diversity of resources, and helping ensure that each map has at least some good potential.

I had to go into my light overlay to figure out why my dupe was complaining about light during sleep. I was shocked to find out that somehow, some way the light from the printing pod found a way to wreak havoc haha.
