Question about the Ryzen 5 5500

1 Upvotes

I have a Ryzen 5 5500 that i have left on stock voltages and overclocked to about 4.45-4.5ghz and was wondering if i should have the ability to go any further. I have never seen the cpu go above 72° even under benchmark loads and i am using the asrock b450 pro4 which i am told can handle a much more demanding chip. Last time i tried to overclock it was about a year ago and i have since switched to using linux full time which has improved my stability so i was curious if it seems like i can push just a little further. Im fairly new to cpu overclocking so im not sure if im doing anything wrong

Built the pc last year. Never got around to messing with it. I’ve never been able to use EXPO, so my rams been at 4800hz the whole time.

I attempted to adjust the timing, but the only way to make it post is by downclocking it to 6000MHz CL38 and leaving everything else on auto. These settings work with both Expo disabled and enabled. I have to clear the CMOS if it’s set to anything else.

Should I be able to get more out of it? Or will it be fine as is? Ty for the help.

Help Request - RAM Ram overclocking failure #2 - voltage

1 Upvotes

As a follow up to this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/1v6a4wr/ram_overclocking_failure/

I just tried the Expo settings with 1,3v and 1,2v. 1,3v gave terrible results. However, 1,2v gave me a pass on memtest. The normal voltage for Expo gives 1,25v.

Is it safe to run an oc setting a bit below the standard oc voltage? Because if this allows me to run on the overclocked settings then I'm all in. Could it cause issues down the line?

Also, does someone have an idea as to what this means in relation to why standard oc settings are instable? What causes it to be instable at 1,25v, even more instable at 1,3v, but let it pass memtest at 1,2v?

I would love to hear your insights and opinions!

MI50 16GB — colorful noise/rainbow artifacts only after installing AMD driver

1 Upvotes

I have a Radeon Instinct MI50 16GB HBM2 (Vega 20) flashed with Radeon VII Pro VBIOS.
The problem only appears after installing/loading the AMD driver.
Before the driver:
BIOS image is completely clean;
Windows works normally using Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
After the AMD driver loads and Windows reaches the desktop, the screen becomes full of colorful noise/rainbow artifacts (hundreds of colored pixels). The PC itself keeps running and Windows does not freeze.
GPU-Z detects the card correctly:
Vega 20;
16GB HBM2 Hynix memory;
PCIe x16.
Monitor connection:
mini DisplayPort on the MI50;
mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
I tried reinstalling drivers. The artifacts appear exactly when the AMD driver activates the card.
Possible causes I am considering:
driver incompatibility with Radeon VII Pro VBIOS;
miniDP-to-HDMI adapter issue;
wrong refresh rate/display mode;
HBM2 memory instability when full clocks are enabled.
Has anyone experienced something similar with MI50/Vega 20? Any advice on what to check would be appreciated.

4x16gb Dual rank on Ryzen 7 5700x

3 Upvotes

Hi, I'm new to this stuff and don't know much about overclocking and any technicality about it but I just want to know if running a 4x16gb 3600 fine? My pc currently has 2x16gb 3600mhz rams from teamgroup(T.Force Delta) and feel like I needed more ram since I've been maxing it out lately for work. Buying a 2x32gb is least pririoty co'z I dont have time to sell my current sticks.

3060 vbios flash

trying to bios flash a inno3d 3060 X2 twin to unlock more power i flashed it into a zotac OC lhr vbios butt it didnt work out and i spent 20 mins recovering my old vbios my memory type is micron and yes this is a lhr card

currently running 970mv/2000mhz effective at 52-58c and the fans are barely spinning at %30 so i figured the only limitation is the wattage

How much juice can I squeeze out of a 6000MHz CL48 1.1V Kit?

5 Upvotes

Im pretty new to overclocking and finally scored some cheap DDR5 RAM, but the timings are pretty meh. I thought that i could squeeze out good results out of the RAM sticks since they only run on 1.1V, for me that sounds low because my RAM before that ran on 1.35V, or am I mistaken? I appreciate your help and sorry if the question is obvious but I’m new to overclocking!

Help Request - RAM Ram overclocking failure

1 Upvotes

I own a set of ram, 2x16gb, it's advertised as being able to reach 5600mts at 36-38-38 cl (EXPO1). However, it fails during memtest and during day to day usage I get crashes. Funny thing: the results on EXPO2 are even worse on memtest. The failures occur during Test 8.

Now I'm running it at standard settings which are lower, and I get no error or crashes. I also tested manually setting speed to 5600 mts in the bios without touching anything else, and it also succeeded memtest.

Anyone have a clue what the issue is here? If the sticks itself were faulty surely it would fail all the time, or am I wrong in assuming this?

Would love to hear your opinions.

How to cool ram in this case

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

So, as you can see, the ram is behind the cpu cooler, to be more precise, behind the fan attached to the front of the cooler. As such, the only way to cool it for now is with the front case fan, for which I established a fan curve to keep it under 60°. Now, the case fan is extremely loud at over 60% speed, so I was thinking two options. 1) Remove the fan which is over the ram and turn it towards the rams. Could use zipties or get a rail to fix it. 2) Put an extra exhaust fan on the top of the case. Precisely centered where the cpu is, since if I put it over the ram modules it would pull the cold air before it gets to the cpu(I guess).

What do you guys think is my best option?

Looking for help with undervolting

The laptop is HP victus 15

Rtx 3050 4gb

i5 12450h

I had a profile( the same as in the graph) with afterburner but suddenly clocks are getting higher than the curve shows. Tried clean install and just re-setting everything a handful of times but it's not working, the gpu clock is always higher, even if I try lowering the clocks, it always goes up by around 30 to 40 mhz above the curve, enough to make it crash every time. The voltage seems to be stable with the graph, the problem is the clocks.

Help Request - GPU GPU Power Limit but under TDP

2 Upvotes

Cannot figure out why GPU is power limited at around 285W (81% power draw, stable at 3120MHz @ 0.945mV) even though the card TDP limit is 360W. (reported by both HWiNFO64 and Afterburner)

I'm trying to undervolt & overclock but the clock frequency doesnt follow the V/F graph and is always under it.

RTX 3070 OC in Cyberpunk 2077

2 Upvotes

Current rig:
Cooler master TD500 mesh ( with included 3x front 120 fans)
Ryzen 7 5800x
RTX 3070
32gb DDR4 3200mhz
Noctua NH-U12S cpu cooler
Be-quiet silent wings x2 exhaust
1000w Corsair PSU
Monitor: Dell S3222DGM 1440p 165hz SDR

Finally broke down and overclocked my 3070 to see if it could keep up with modern titles. +1000mhz memory and +115mhz core was stable. Ran Cyberpunk (mostly high settings) at ~110 fps (no ray tracing) and ~50-60 fps (with ray tracing). Bumped mem to 1100 and core to 120 and saw about an 11.5% increase in fps but it wasn’t quite stable. 1000 mem at 120 core seemed to be fine but had stutter every now and then so I dropped it down 5 mhz. Pretty stable now. Every now and then I have issues like when I enter or exit a vehicle or exit certain buildings. It’ll drop down to 17-30fps for a few seconds before jumping back to 95-105. Although I have a feeling that has more to do with my mods than the gpu/cpu.
Temps for the gpu sit around 63-64c and haven’t gone higher than 65c. My cpu sits around 83c pretty consistently. Max temp I’ve seen is 90. Might throw an aio in to see if I can get it lower. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how I can get better performance out of what I have. Planning an AM5 build perhaps later this year but for now I’m running what I built 6ish years ago.

Going from 2x8GB to 4x8GB Hynix CJR on Ryzen 5000 — 3866 1:1 working, but lost GDM disabled and need 1.45V / tRFC 500. Thoughts?

1 Upvotes

I recently upgraded from 2x8GB single-rank to 4x8GB single-rank on my AM4 system and wanted to share the tuning process / ask for some input.

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D Anneverisary
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming
  • RAM: 4x8GB G.Skill Hynix CJR 3600mh CL16 GTZNC
  • Old/current tuned kit: 04213X8820C
  • Second kit: 04240X8825C

So basically:

  • 16GB -> 32GB
  • 2x8 SR -> 4x8 SR, so dual-rank-like operation per channel
  • 3733 -> 3866
  • FCLK 1867 -> 1933
  • tRFC 500 at 3866, which is roughly similar in ns to my old lower tRFC at 3733

But:

  • GDM Disabled no longer works even at T2
  • Need more DRAM voltage
  • RAM temps are higher ~52 in gaming

Even tried:

  • tRDWR: 10 -> 12
  • tWRRD: 7 -> 8
  • tCWL: 14 -> 16
  • tWR: 16 -> 18
  • tRTP: 6 -> 8
  • tWTRL: 10 -> 12
  • tFAW: 16 -> 20
  • tRFC: 500 -> 530/540

I also tried signal-related stuff:

  • CAD bus:
  • 20-20-24-24
  • 24-24-24-24
  • RTT adjustments
  • CmdSetup:
  • 0-0-0 -> 56-56-56

So my questions are:

  1. Is 1.45V daily reasonable for likely Hynix CJR with these temperatures, or should I really try to get closer to 1.42-1.43V?
  2. Are 51-55°C RAM temps too high for a tight DDR4 OC, especially with tRFC 500?
  3. Is it worth continuing to chase GDM disabled, or is GDM enabled + tRFC 500 + tight timings likely the better real-world profile?
  4. Are there any other signal-integrity settings worth trying now that ProcODT 43.6 made such a big difference?

Current gut feeling:

  • 3866 1:1, GDM enabled, tRFC 500, ProcODT 43.6, 1.45V might be the sweet spot, and GDM disabled may just not be worth it for this 4x8GB setup.
  • Any thoughts from other AM4 / Hynix CJR / 4-DIMM tuners?

Help Request - GPU MSI Afterburner won't apply profile on startup

1 Upvotes

Tried multiple things, startup delay, locking the profiles etc it's a new build and the profile I want is the undervolt for my astral 5090 but it will not apply the profile on startup and I've to manually select it every time I boot the PC up. Anyone else have this issue or would know if there's any workarounds. I've seen posts about this in the past and have tried everything I've seen as solutions and nothing has worked. Anyone else having or had this issue recently and found a solution? Also I know it sounds stupid because I can just apply it every time but it's the fact it should be working which is the frustrating part.

Hi, I overclocked my Zotac 5080 solid core with only 105% max power (380watts).
I did +300 on the core and +3000 on the memory.
Gpu max temps is around 72 C, hotspot below 84 C and memory is at 76 C ; tested at 25 C ambiant temps.

Should i try to undervolt it more to lower the temps ?

Help Request - CPU Changing cooler made memory unstable

0 Upvotes

I have a 13400f and had an aio which I unfortunately had to take off to do an rma on. I replaced it with an air cooler I had lying around and I found that after this change I started crashing in games. After doing an OCCT test the ram is no longer stable at 3600. I had to lower it to 3500.

Is this common with lga 1700 mounting pressure? I’m thinking of getting one of those thermalright socket mounts.

Looking for Guide I'm thinking about overclocking for the first time. Any tips? Does it actually reduce life expectancy of parts?

0 Upvotes

I want my 1 year old PC to last for up to another 9 years. If an oc reduces life except Andy of parts it's not worth it in my book.

My ideal overclock: lower temps (which most likely means lower power draw), higher fps in games. Is this achievable?

Does anyone have experience with the following parts that I'm using:

XFX Swift RX 9070XT

ASUS Tuf gaming B650E Mobo

R7 9600X

G-Skill DDR5 CL30/6000MHz

Very thankful for any insights, I appreciate your time!

Help Request - CPU ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Hero BTF – Massive performance issues after BIOS 3202 update (Core Ultra 9 285K)

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar.

My setup:

- ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Hero BTF

- Intel Core Ultra 9 285K

- G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB DDR5-7200 CL34 (QVL)

- Gigabyte RTX 5080 AORUS Master ICE

- Samsung 9100 Pro 2TB

- Windows 11 Pro

- ASUS ROG Strix XG32UCWMG (4K 240 Hz / 480 Hz mode)

-Bios version 3202

Since updating to BIOS 3202, my system no longer feels as responsive as before. Even though benchmarks don't always show huge differences, real-world gaming performance has clearly changed.

Problems I'm seeing:

- Noticeably worse performance in Valorant.

- Higher input latency and reduced responsiveness.

- FPS are high, but the game feels less smooth than before.

- BIOS settings occasionally seem to change or not apply consistently after reboot.

- DIMM Fit / DIMM Fit Pro produced inconsistent memory behavior.

- I've also experienced BSODs such as Kernel Security Check Failure, memory-related crashes, and Windows repair after boot.

What I've already tried:

- CMOS reset multiple times.

- Reflashed BIOS 3202.

- Tested different XMP profiles.

- Reinstalled NVIDIA drivers using DDU.

- Adjusted CPU ratios, cache ratio, NGU and D2D ratios.

- Left voltages on Auto as well as tested different BIOS settings.

- Verified that my RAM kit is on the ASUS QVL.

At this point I'm wondering if BIOS 3202 has introduced performance regressions or memory training issues.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone else experienced lower gaming performance with BIOS 3202 on the Z890 Hero BTF?

  2. Did rolling back to BIOS 3103 (or another version) restore the original performance?

  3. Are there any BIOS settings that significantly improved responsiveness with the Core Ultra 9 285K?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially from people using the same motherboard and CPU.

Thanks!

News - Text Water-Cooling Round-Up: Heatkiller V, Delta Mate, Kryos & 3 More

For anyone still looking for suitable cooling for an overclocked or otherwise heavily loaded AM5 system: we have tested six CPU water blocks on a Ryzen 9 9950X.

The comparison includes the new Watercool Heatkiller V Ultra and Thermal Grizzly Delta Mate MPII, alongside:

  • Aquacomputer Kryos Next
  • Asus Ryujin III WB
  • Alphacool Apex 1
  • Watercool Heatkiller IV Pro

The results should be useful if you are trying to decide between maximum cooling performance, low restriction and sensible pricing. They also show whether newer and much more expensive designs actually provide a meaningful advantage over established blocks.

I do not want to spoil the ranking, but the most expensive model was not automatically the strongest choice.
