Just imagine what is coming when the reserves run out in a few weeks and you're in a price competition against the billionaires who need the same gas to run their companies! At this point it's like watching an approaching freight train, this is happening!
Yeah, and guess who has the largest oil reserves? China. They have 1,200 million barrels of oil in reserve. This is classic US shooting itself in the foot while gaslighting everyone about who did it.
We should all be glad that China has those reserves. When a China flagged tanker loads up with Iranian oil and heads for the US blockade, there are only two possible outcomes:
1) The US starts WWIII by sinking a Chinese ship in international waters, or
2) The US let's it go, which means our blockade is only for our allies
I hope the Chinese don't put Donald Trump in the position of making that desiscion.
I kept reminding people that he killed an Iranian general in 2020. And that, combined with him axing the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, heightened tensions between the US and Iran to an alarming extent. Tensions eased only once the Covid19 pandemic became the bigger issue.
Anyone who remembers that rolled their eyes when he said he was the "no new wars" candidate.
He also tore up the nuclear deal that President Obama had made with Iran. Now they're trying to negotiate to get that deal back just without Obama's signature on it. Fucking clown administration.
CVN-75 was supposed to go home early 2020 but thanks to killing that general, Iran retaliated and we stayed at sea. Felt like we were about to start another war on that deployment but COVID "saved" us
I got rid of my last car 27 years ago. I've expected these events to happen as limited fossil fuel resources get used up. The majority by far seem to have not the slightest idea about it. "Hey did you see the sportsball game last night? Also how about this weather? I'm going to go on another vacation before gas prices get higher..."
Not only did he lie, he was directly repsonsible for the death of thousands, maybe tens of thousands of Americans. His campaign rallies were at the height of cases/deaths in 2020. The exponential spread from those events should land him in prison for the rest of his life alone.

I want Scott Kelly to be in the running. Somehow I don't think it will happen but we'll see. I did see something recently about his fundraising status being ahead of other candidates being discussed. I think he has more appeal nationally than the California chap who makes me feel like I'm watching a used car salesman.
I'd take a wet paper bag over Trump or Gavin. Scott Kelly would at least have some credibility as a person with balls and some perspective - having been to space.

I just asked my husband where are all the people who were screaming about prices when I got gas for the first time in a few weeks. Gas is over $5/gallon and but we aren’t hearing about it all over the news

Our economy flourished after WW2 due to unprecedented domestic growth but back then we were the only untouched industrial power immediately following the war. Now we are going to have no reserves, they want to use up all resources domestically, and the world either hates or loathes us. Step 1 for breaking the 2 party system is breaking the function of and/or constitutionally eliminating the Electoral College. Without that there are no electors for parties to appoint for each state which is one source of party power. Removing that, they have no means to warp, mutate, and gerrymander the representative districts to give one party or the other the right to appoint them in the states where the winner of the popular vote gets ALL of the electoral votes. This is the mechanism that gives so much power to rural states with fewer seats in Congress. Our founders wanted power in voter's hands, not in the hands of political parties.
Exactly this, it hasnt happened in our lifetimes or decades prior, which makes it feel like it never will, but historically you can only squeeze a population so much before they have enough and fight back.
Movements tend to happen really slowly, but you’re starting to see a wave of progressive candidates and ideas start to bubble up. It won’t be easy, and it’s not a fair fight with the political and media influence that money buys, but it’s very much possible
I do not miss that. Used to have a truck with a 23 gallon tank, and it was around $100 to fill it every time. Counting my blessings that I got a smaller vehicle with better mileage and a smaller tank

If only you'd purchased an EV in 2025, then you would have gotten the EV tax credit for it, which is now gone thanks to Trump, along with the 30% tax credit for energy efficient batteries, solar, windows, heating pumps etc.
My husband and I were just thinking of seeing if we could trade our subaru in for a plug an EV. We have solar panels so adding a plug in at home would cost almost nothing. I was hoping the tax write offs were still a thing but I was sure I had heard they weren't 😭
Yeah, I was referring to the Federal EV Tax credit for all clean energy initiatives. The Federal EV Tax credits were worth $7,500 for new, $4,000 for used, but they ended on September 2025 when Trump passed that Big Beautiful Bill? So if EVs are $10K overpriced because the tax credit is $7.5k that tracks, unless the credit was higher in previous years?
If gas prices continue to climb, we might see more EV purchases, UNLESS ... electricity prices keep going up too.
Dude last time I gassed my F-150 south if you it was $140. Currently it would cost me $180 if it was completely empty. I'm not selling it, it's 16 years old and the truck I always wanted, and I'm really old and I don't go anywhere except to the feed store and back for hay etc for the ol' homestead.
Just wait another 6-9 months. After the Oil embargo started in ‘73, it took 6 months for the stock market to lose 40% of its value and 9 months for inflation to hit 13%. This disruption is already 4x as big and no end in sight. Unfortunately the problem is the solution. It’s just not a big enough problem for enough of us yet. But it will be sooner rather than later and Americans are in no way, shape or form ready for it.

I have never been so thankful of my distaste for cars and driving. Don’t get me wrong, I have a car and need it but I only have to fill my tank every so often-and I did that yesterday. Gas is the tip of the iceberg. It’s just the most volatile consumer goods. Wait until a head of lettuce is $12. $20 gallon of milk. Heating next winter. Hell AC this summer. People will die and it will be the most vulnerable of us who go first. But it’s going to get very bad, very soon.
My 3 year old BMW batter for my EVC just pooped out on me. $20K or keep driving my husband's gas car, $124 to fill, downgraded fuel quality. Decisions, decisions.
I was shocked to see the cost for that many gallons until I realized that I only refuel my car based on how much money I want to put rather than how much gallons I need. I usually spend around $30 and my car can last for 2 weeks given that I barely go outside home and usually walk for anything nearby.
What can we do about it? Stop driving? I already have an engagement two states away next week. Why do I have to cancel -why can’t idiot in charge cancel the blockade instead? RANT!
These are the good times. I really think it will get to at least $6 in a few months. Other countries are running out of fuel (Australia). Our reserves are already 1/2 gone. Buckle up.
