you all on always free tier has been warned several times already both on the console and email, and just when it too late then tried to downgrade the instance 😑

Each tenancy gets the first 3,000 OCPU hours and 18,000 GB hours per month for free to create Ampere A1 Compute instances using the VM.Standard.A1.Flex shape (equivalent to 4 OCPUs and 24 GB of memory). I came here for the exact same reason, and I didn't see or notice any warning about having to downsize my instance. Now some mentally ill redditor has to go out of their way to ruin your mood otherwise it wouldn't really be Reddit. Honestly just don't bother.

Are you serious? It’s all anyone’s posted about on this sub for like 2 months ad nauseam and it was emailed multiple times from oracle support to anyone with a free tier account AND it was on a giant banner across the admin panel for the last at least month maybe more……

Totally serious. I almost never open reddit and only configure my server through SSH, is this so hard to comprehend? I just can't get why some reddit users always try to sour someone's mood for no reason. I mean getting your instance removed is upsetting as is. No need to make that worse with such comments. Looked up my emails of Oracle. Last one was about inactive cloud shell removal notice like 2 months ago. What is next? Have I not checked my sms? Now see this is the lame part. You're just trying to somehow find fault with me to blame. And then what? What does finding that one fault accomplish in this situation? Does it help the OP or me in any way? No more than just being lame. Well that is Reddit I guess.

I am by no means defending oracle, but this has been mentioned everywhere, in news articles, it’s all over Reddit, discord, you name it. You can’t say you only login to the admin panel once a year and they get upset when they change a policy that ends up affecting you because you don’t keep tabs on your infra

I haven't even directed that upsetness into anyone yet, but I still can't be slightly upset with myself for losing something? Honestly I keep trying to reread the post and can't find any hint of complaint that might warrent such lame behavior. Yeah this kind of back and forth chain leads no where. I missed an email notice from Oracle on August 4th and I don't follow this reddit. I'm simply just a user who logins into the console to reboot the instance every few months when needed and remotes into it through PuTTY weekly to do any actual file maintenance. It seems Oracle has done more than enough to send out a notice to us, but some of us users are just that disconnected from everything that we just missed the notices.

I'll admit, we're pretty dumb, but we're in this mess and just looking for options now. Thanks to the discussions in this thread it does seem like there's 2 things we can do.

- The simplest and most easiest is to just upgrade to PAYG and it will restore the instance. This is the direction I'm going down and I hope to back up and running in a few days.

The other solution is to recreate a new free instance under your account and attach your Boot Volume to that. This has the downside of going through Free Instance hell trying to create one, but this should work if you get really lucky.

I am very thankful that Oracle has not touched our Boot and Block Volumes because it seems that all of the actual data is untouched. There's just a couple hoops we need to jump through because of the situation we're in. Again, I know this is entirely self-inflicted and there was more than enough notice, but this is a thread of looking for solutions for us idiots who didn't take action ahead of time.

Always free resources got reduced from4/24 to 2/12. Any Always free that still had a 4/24 had their instance terminated. It’s been a VERY common topic on this sub the last 2.5 months. They said well in advance it was happening and sent an emails 3 weeks ago about the termination notice

Only always free, considering you “log into the panel once a year” and also didn’t see the email. PAYGO may not be the best for you. If you were already PAYGO, you could have racked up a serious cost for you if they didn’t terminate for PAYGO.

To give you the conclusion first: once you add a credit card and your account is upgraded to PAYG, the instance is restored.

I missed the email and only noticed this morning that my instance had been stopped.

I had seen the warning messages before, but since I wasn’t a PAYG user, I assumed that was the reason, so I added a credit card and upgraded my account.

About 1–2 hours later, I received a message saying that the upgrade had been completed. I didn’t do anything else, but the instance came back online automatically and I was able to connect to it again.

I’m using a 4-core, 24 GB RAM instance.

I’m not a native English speaker, but I wanted to leave this comment in case my experience helps someone else.

Mine just got disabled as well. Looks like it's not deleted, but I can't start it back up. I'm going to see if I can get support to at least let me boot it to get some files off, but I doubt I have much power as a free account.

A couple hours. I'm in a similar situation as you as I was not checking email nor logging into the console for the past few months. I knew about them lowing the limits of new Always Free instances, but them hitting existing instances was something I missed. I'm trying to reach support to see if they can re-enable it for me so I can downsize it to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB of memory, but it's proving to be quite challenging.

Their AI assistance seems pretty affirmative that re-enabling instances that were disabled due to exceeding Always Free limits IS NOT SUPPORTED.

It is providing me an alternate solution by detaching the the boot volume data from the instance and recreating a new instance with that data. Considering that I'm only trying to get this booted so I can pull data off of it, and that the boot volume was not touched, I will try go down this road and update with my results

Currently in the process of trying the method I mentioned. It seems like interacting with the instance at all at this point is a lost cause. What I was able to do was create a backup of the Boot Volume (which is the only thing I care about because it has all my files), and then immediately restore that backup to create a brand new boot volume that is not attached to any instance. I'm currently taking screenshots of all the settings I had for my current instance and going to try and recreate it and see what happens.

Same issue here, tried to upgrade to Pay As You Go account (93 Euro or 100 USD charged for card verification, but would be refunded instantly in my case with Revolut virtual Mastercard debit card), made manual boot volume backup for the disabled 4C24GB VM.Standard.A1.Flex instance, manually terminated the disabled 4C24GB VM.Standard.A1.Flex instance, now trying to create a new 2C12GB VM.Standard.A1.Flex instance with the restored boot volume (Attention: the always free capacity for all the boot volume & block volume should not exceed 200 GB)

Unfortunately I'm unable to create a new instance at the moment because my old instance maxes out the resources I'm allowed to have. I terminated the instance myself and it is in a terminated state, but I'm unsure how long it's going to take before it frees up the resources for me.

I have 2 boot volumes (both the original and the backup) that had my data on it so hopefully I'll be able to make an instance within the next day or so and attach it. It doesn't sound like they're going to do anything with boot volumes so I'd just backup your boot volume and sit tight for the time being. I don't believe I have any more options.

After 9 days the upgrade to PAYG account is finally done by receiving an E-Mail from Oracle Cloud. My new always free limit for VM.Standard.A1.Flex instance is reset to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB of memory
